okay so um now we're going to talk about
managing your tables of course you're
going to go into the SQL Server
management Studio you expand the server
to expand the databases and then pick a
database that has some tables in there
and then expand the database and expand
your tables uh basically you want to
right click on a table so let's right
click on uh order
Master when you right click there's a
lot of things that you can do here first
of all if we click on design
naturally that's where you can add or
change
Fields uh so you can click on a field
and change the properties down here of
course or you can always add new Fields
uh if you rightclick on a table on a
field uh there's a couple things you can
do there you set the primary
key insert a column delete a column
manage your relationships manage your
indexes so um or do a full text index
which we'll talk about later on
so there's a lot of things you can do
from this level of course uh but the
screen is intended to add or change or
delete Fields we're going to close that
I'm going to right click on the table
again uh now we're going to right click
uh now when we say select top 1,00
rows then it'll just show the data
really quickly as we can
[Music]
say or um you can actually browse the
table change the data by going into edit
top 200
rows and then you can actually uh make
changes to the table now even though it
said the top 200 of course you can go uh
you know to the to the next couple
records you just scroll down not a
problem but here you can actually do
data entry and make data entry
changes uh we're going to right click on
the table
again now what's kind of interesting in
SQL servers you can script in uh
whenever whenever it says script it's
going to make the actual SQL Server code
uh for that table or for the view or
whatever you're in at that time so in
this case we can say maybe like a select
and we're going to go into a new query
window and notice how it starts to build
the actual SQL Server code for you so
that could be very helpful as you're
building your scripts uh you know here
it gives you kind of a head
start so watch what we did there we
right clicked and we say script table as
um view table view dependencies are kind
of interesting that would show you which
uh which queries and which store
procedures use that
table we're going to do a full text
index later on that's uh if you have if
you're doing a lot of searches on text
fields on very large tables then you
would want to do a Define uh full text
index uh so you know we can see some
great ways to manage the tables as we
can see right so you right click on that
that's probably what I would show to the
class those couple items and then you
might want to look at some of these
other items and uh learn a little bit
about that as well but basically most
people would be concerned about these
items over
here
