Hi, I'm Jamie and this is the new 2021 Bonneville Speedmaster, the latest generation of Triumph's
laid-back custom classic, born from a bloodline of beautiful British Bonneville cruisers of the
1960s. Built to deliver all of the classic Bonneville DNA, with timeless style married
to truly modern capability, the Speedmaster is all about that beautifully refined and relaxed
cruiser ride. And for 2021, this new generation Speedmaster comes with enhanced performance,
enhanced handling and an even more comfortable ride. At the heart of the new Speedmaster is
Triumph's characterful 1200cc high-torque British twin engine, which has been developed for 2021 to
reduce mass and lower inertia for an even more immediate and responsive feel. The Speedmaster
shares the same 270 degree firing order as the rest of the Bonneville range, with a tune specifically
developed to deliver high torque and high power low down and through the rev range. And in this
new 2021 update, the tune has been evolved specifically for an even fuller and smoother
power and torque delivery, with a notable lift in the mid-range and a result that gives lower
emissions, exceeding Euro 5 requirements and also excellent fuel economy. Peak power is a really
strong 78PS at 6100rpm. Peak torque is an exceptional 106Nm at a very low 4000rpm,
with over 90% of this available all the way up to 5750rpm. This makes a Speedmaster a really
exciting bike to ride in any gear. This bright chrome stainless steel exhaust is unique to the
Speedmaster and precisely crafted to deliver a rich, deep and distinctive sound. It's a twin-skin
design which cleverly hides a catalyst for an uninterrupted header run. The liquid cooling
system, essential for low emissions and good fuel economy, is sensitively incorporated too.
Triumph's latest Ride-by-Wire technology ensures precise throttle control. The Speedmaster has two
enhanced riding modes, Road and Rain. These are full power and for 2021 now adjust both the
throttle response and traction control settings, adding to confidence, rideability and safety
whatever the conditions. A very high service interval of 10,000 miles or 16,000 kilometres
helps to keep the ongoing cost of ownership low. The Speedmaster's handling and capability has also
been enhanced for 2021. This comes from higher specification, bigger diameter 47mm Showa cartridge
forks. Combined with the preload adjustable hidden monoshock rear suspension unit, this gives you
excellent manoeuvrability, comfort and control with or without a pillion. And this is made even
more impressive by the fact that this Speedmaster has up to 36% more rear wheel travel than any other
bike in this category. Stopping power is excellent thanks to the high performance twin disc braking
setup with Brembo calipers. To maximise safety and control, ABS and switchable traction control
are of course fitted as standard. And this tech, like all of the modern features of the Speedmaster,
is beautifully incorporated into the design. The Speedmaster is set up to deliver all of Triumph's
signature neutral, agile and easy handling and, as you would expect with a custom cruiser, the riding
position is relaxed and comfortable. It has a very low seat height of just 705mm, making it one of
Triumph's most accessible bikes and really easy to get your feet flat on the floor.
New for 2021, there is an even more comfortable twin seat setup. The rider's seat now has
separate lumbar support and a sculpted deep foam construction. The pillion seat has 11mm
thicker foam than the previous generation. The seat configuration can be easily switched between
a twin or single seat setup, both tailoring the look of the Speedmaster to suit personal taste
and allowing the fitment of a useful accessory rear rack. A torque assist clutch adds to comfort
on long journeys or in heavy traffic and cruise control is fitted as standard. The cruise control
function is really easy to use with an easily accessed single button operation. One press for on,
one press to set the speed and one press to cancel. When it comes to looks, while there's no
mistaking the Core Bonneville DNA, the Speedmaster has a beautiful custom cruiser style all of its
own. You have a laid back cruiser riding position with swept back beach bars and forward set pegs,
plus this distinctive cage swing arm for an authentic and elegant hardtail look. Bodywork
is kept to a minimum with beautiful features such as these central ridges on the front and
the rear mudguards. Other authentic touches include this side mounted ignition barrel,
the classic rear drum brake inspired hub, the battery box with its heritage style stainless
steel restraining strap, this classic nacelle headlight detailing, the 16 inch 32 spoke wire
wheels, the brushed heart shaped engine cover with its triumph makers mark badge and the minimal
single clock. The clock has a new bezel for 2021 with subtle Bonneville branding and a new dial
face. The LCD display is controlled via an easily accessible and intuitive handlebar mounted scroll
button. For maximum efficiency and longevity you have full LED lighting, that's headlight,
rear light, indicators and number plate light and where market legislation permits, the headlight
features this distinctive LED daytime running light for increased visibility. When it comes to
customisation, the Bonneville family is the perfect platform and there is a range of over 70 genuine
Triumph accessories to choose from. These have all been designed and developed alongside the bike to
ensure perfect integration. They have been tested to the same exacting standards as the Speedmaster
2. Options for enhancing the Speedmaster's long distance capability include leather or wax cotton
panniers, a chrome luggage rack, pillion backrest, rider footboards and a long haul touring screen.
For a change of style there are different options for seats plus high bars, a neat little swing arm
bag, teardrop mirrors in chrome or black, various badges, caps, covers and finishes and dresser bars.
You also have alternative exhausts including a fully black finish system and for added
practicality when the temperatures drop, heated grips. These integrate with the hidden wiring that
is already built into the Speedmaster. So there you have it, the new 2021 Bonneville Speedmaster,
already the most beautiful custom classic and now with even better performance and capability
and absolutely perfect for those laid-back idyllic motorcycling journeys.
