Will This WORK? Self Supporting Arches w/ Hyperadobe

The band's back together. Things are going to get real weird. I don't bend that way. It's pretty nice. We just don't have anything to say. Go us. OK, it is meet and greet time. It is really cold and windy outside. Yeah, we're not going to record a lot of it. Now, the talking, at least, yeah, this is the first workshop that we've done where the weather is not optimal. Meet and greet. This is the first meet and greet that we've done when the weather is not cooperating. No, it looks like it's going to move through, but it's still going to be really windy. It's raining on the mountains or snow in the mountains. It's cold and so, so windy. But we got to do it. Got to do it. So we got to go open the gate. OK, let's go be social. Me, there's nothing. No, there's nothing we should do. The band's back together. We're all outside. Doodles are in their doodle pen. We're going to concentrate on course 17. We're going to concentrate on course 17 on this outside bedroom wall. We only have one, two, three or five bags to lay to get all 17 on this outer kid room, bedroom wall. Now, which side do you want to start on? This side, then we need to come back this way. You might have to go around that pipe. Yeah, push it in. Yep, good work. We wanted to remind you about The double dome workshop in Kanab, Utah coming up April 26th through May 10th Very soon very soon if you want to learn how to do hyper adobe and super adobe together during the same two weeks Perfect thing to come to yeah also so in Kanab We're going to be building two domes with Hayden and Millie from Australia and Ian and Nicolette from the Mojave Center And then we are going to do the bench and fire pit area with hyper adobe that connects the two domes together Yeah It's going to be a lot of fun and we'll build it the first week and we will plaster On the second week gonna be a lot of people a lot of fun And we're going to do some sightseeing around Kanab little side trips. Kanab is beautiful. Make it fun It's totally worth the trip just to Kanab even if you don't build in your bags But yeah, hopefully you'll come and you'll hang out and you'll build stuff with us and we'll see you there Yeah, we'll see you in Kanab. Can you believe that yesterday during the meet and greet it was super cold and windy and hailing And today it's like 70 and sunny and there's no wind All right friends Here's where we're at We're up to course 17 right here 16 there because we got to do the crossovers. We'll come back to that. We went ahead and did Uh 18 there just because we were it was annoying So 17 and then we're at 17 17 18 And then 16 and probably we're gonna have to do this later because this crosses over here so the question is do we Go 18 all the way on this one and then move on or do we move on to other places and come back? I don't know things are gonna get real weird the next couple videos are gonna be all out of order Sorry All right, friends. We've decided we are going to do course 18 All the way down so course 18 is done here right here, I don't know which side you can see It goes over the jindo. We want to get that locked in All the way down. So decent amount of bags Hopefully we got everybody out here Uh, we can go quickly get finished and then we can move to some of these other walls Like I said, it's going to be a little bit out of order kind of going back and forth But it's going to get done Like this is gonna get really difficult to work with everybody over here We're gonna try it You see how it goes They can always go in the doodle pit if they need to But this is so hot. We did not finish this last little wall here chorus of 18 on this outer circle So we're going to knock that out and then we're going to turn our attention to The big circle niche forms on the inner circle, which should be fun. We just laid up to the top and went over but because this is an arch shape And it will be a self-supporting arch What we're going to do is we're going to start at this layer And we're going to actually run the layer all the way over a single unbroken Cement stabilize extra wet like it's going to go over as one piece and then We'll lay a bag up to it and then over the top so a little bit different and because we're Heavily stabilizing this and making it extra wet. We're just doing one layer One unbroken layer on there today on each circle and we'll come back and we'll do the other layers later Later later later Get lost where only we know on these streets made of gold Is All right, so the first one turned out pretty good we learned a couple of things first is that Gravity is not your friend So it's easy to lay it up here. But as you come down You probably noticed we had to do a bunch of chopping to move the dirt over. So that's like a pretty even arch there And then what else did we learn eight inch tamp worked really well to do the right because you couldn't hit right here Or here With the big tamp. Yeah And a little extra water helps a lot Yeah, so we're locking in a really good end at the end of the day We're gonna come back again and wet it all down again turned out way better than I thought It was hard figuring out looking from the top to make because this is a curved wall So not only are you going over a half circle, but you're trying to curve it as well. And that was a little weird Especially because you can't get a can't get a plum Here because this is sticking out. It's in the way well, if you look at like We know that this is plum and there's about equal space at the top that's what we had to do is just yeah Eyeball that space all the way around and I think it turned out pretty good.
