2025 Regular Session - Day 29 - HB 694 Veto Override Comments, Floor Leader Rudy

Mr. Speaker, a lot has changed in the last 15 years. This bill that I proudly voted for 15 years ago, and I think the gentleman from Fayette was right, there's five of us, five of us on this House floor that were here to make that vote. But I do want to point out that the teachers have gotten, because of the actions of many people in this room, in the last eight years, a two and a half percent pay. We've cut their taxes. They get to keep all that. But we didn't just cut it for teachers, we cut it for every single hardworking Kentuckian. Because 15 years ago, the personal income tax in Kentucky was 6%. Well come January 1, 2026, it'll be down to three and a half. That's a significant amount of money staying in everybody's pockets, not just the teachers.
