We continue our journey towards Canada's National Parks with a stop at Three Valley Lake Chateau, the town of Revelstoke and an overnight stay at the Blanket Creek Provincial Park campground where we explore the campground area and visit Sutherland Falls. We celebrate Gordon's birthday by hiking the scenic Great Glacier trail at Canada's Glacier National Park.
We're now on the next leg of our journey towards Canada's national parks and we're going to
head over to Glacier National Park with overnight lows forecasted well below freezing.
We're not really sure what we're going to do, but we'll decide when we get there.
So we're getting close to Revelstoke and the scenery is getting pretty amazing.
Unfortunately, it's raining though.
It's going by.
We just stopped for a cup of tea at the, what is it called? Three Valley Gap Resort.
Gordon couldn't resist the pumpkin pie.
I wanted to show you this beautiful decoration in the dining room here.
It looks like an old rail car.
It's 3.30 and we decided to actually stay in the Revelstoke area tonight because Glacier
National Park is expected to be pretty cold.
Bless you.
And we don't really want to take the chance and we don't really feel like having to winterize
the van.
We'll need to have to de-winterize again.
It's a bit of a hassle.
So we're going to go to the Blanket Creek Provincial Park campground and see if we can
find a good spot there.
It's about 24 kilometers south of Revelstoke.
Oh, and Revelstoke has some great coffees, coffee shops, bakery.
We just went to a nice bakery and they have great coffee and really good baked goods.
So nice, nice spot.
Nice town.
Beautiful views.
Gordon took the alternate route.
But you see they would have just jumped over it like a horse.
Are you calling yourself a horse?
Small horse.
Looks like a man-made pond.
Yeah, I'm sure it is.
Yeah.
It's made it for a little safer than probably swimming or a little warmer than swimming
in the reservoir.
Last couple of places we stayed, it's just been so quiet.
It's the, it's definitely post-season.
It's obviously a busy place in the summertime, but all the crowds are gone.
Yeah, so this parking lot is apparently the overflow of camping.
But in a pinch, it's probably just fine.
And you're steps away from the beach.
I think this is kind of like a perimeter trail that goes around the campground along the river.
It's beautiful.
Yeah, it's very nice, very peaceful.
Colors, fall colors are nice.
They're yellows.
Greens are a much softer hue, just gorgeous.
This is more Gordon's scene here.
He likes the wilder, quieter areas with less people and less development.
Beautiful.
And here's the back of the campsites.
Lots of sites available.
People might be rolling in later, but I think it's going to be a pretty quiet night.
That was a good walk.
I'm going to go have a shower now.
We'll see Crash coming out.
Good morning.
So here we are at Blanket Creek Provincial Park Campground.
And it's a beautiful morning, Monday morning.
Cloudy.
It did rain last night.
I heard it in the van.
But otherwise, it was quiet and peaceful and beautiful here.
Very nice.
But we're going to head out and try and find some better weather today.
Probably head up to Glacier National Park where it's cold, close to snowing, has been snowing.
And then we'll go from there.
But it'd be nice if we could find some sunshine.
Supposed to be some sunshine, but as you're close to the mountains here, it's just difficult to find.
Yeah, you can never tell.
But you know what?
That's the adage, if you don't like the weather in the mountains, wait 15 minutes.
But you know what?
I don't think you can beat this scenery.
It's pretty nice.
The sun's just coming out of the clouds.
Birds are chirping.
And there's nobody else on the beach.
It's just beautiful.
So it's Gordon's birthday today.
Happy birthday, Gordon.
After about 10 minutes or so, we're back into the campground.
So it's a nice little trail.
It was a good walk because we walked, it's kind of like a circuit, on the beach for a bit.
And then we came back on the trail.
This is the nature trail sign here.
And this is the section we're in here.
Riverview Rest Sites.
63 to 95.
Well, we tried to dump our tanks and the machine was broken.
So we'll have to go somewhere else and dump our tanks.
They're not too full at the moment.
I think they're one third and one third.
But it's just nice to have a clear tank.
And there wasn't a lot of people here at the campground.
So we thought we'd take the opportunity to use a quiet dump station.
But anyway, moving along.
Off to Glacier National Park now.
We decided to park at the day use area and do the Great Glacier Trail hike.
All right.
Well, both Mickey and I can't think of a better place to spend my birthday than here.
All right, a short hike.
Weather wasn't too great.
Bit of rain.
But we got some nice views.
You can just see the sun coming out over there.
It's a really nice hike.
Gorgeous.
Would have been really nice if it had been a sunny day.
Birthday lunch.
Yakisoba.
Just instant yakisoba with some vegetables on it.
Quick and easy.
Nice thing about a RV.
You can make lunch even in the parking lot somewhere.
That's right.
You can make lunch anywhere.
Even people walking by get to see you eating lunch.
Nice little shelter with a wooden stove to stay warm.
If you want to eat inside if the weather's not so great.
So we're just leaving Glacier National Park.
And we decided to try going to Banff National Park.
Because the weather looks a little slightly warmer there.
So it's going to be a two-hour drive.
But now it's starting to clear.
And look at the views here.
It's unbelievable.
