I'm afraid to ask about the whipped cream. Do you want whipped cream?
No, no I'm good.
No whipped cream.
I've had drinks like that before.
Wow.
I've had bipolar drinks. I'm so happy to be here. I can't wait to leave.
Gus's Hot Dogs. I love the way... the building is awesome.
What's up?
So we're at Gus's Hot Dogs today.
Grilled sausage sandwich.
And we got some... look at all this stuff. This is cool.
Is that the menu? There's the menu right there.
Grape burger, hamburger, soda.
Oh, sorry.
That's your one, isn't it?
Cool.
Gus's.
Grape soda.
Wow.
The smell is amazing.
This place smells and looks really cool.
I really like it.
Look at all the stickers I need. Oh man, I need to get my stickers over here.
I'm missing out on sticker bombing places like this.
You've never had a Gus's either, no?
Would you look at the American trying something new as that.
Alright. Let's see them when they're out.
Okay, as we take a look around Gus's awesome family-run restaurant,
I'm going to be showing you in this video
three awesome American dishes that I literally fell in love with.
They're so classic, they're so awesome.
There's some southern up there, there's some fish, there's some steak.
We've got everything, so check it out.
And stick around to the end for some honorable mentions
and my cousin Kevin's awesome cooking.
This is so cool.
Get ready. Get a napkin ready or get a meal at least.
This place is awesome.
You see how that was like a little...
little tiny quaint little hot dog joint, you know.
That was cool.
Hot chocolate or cold chocolate?
Hot chocolate.
I'm afraid to ask about the whipped cream.
Want whipped cream?
No.
No whipped cream.
I've had drinks like that before.
I call them bipolar drinks.
I'm so happy to be here, I can't wait to leave.
Wow, look at these bad boys.
Nice sit-down spa.
Everybody got their hot dog on over here.
That place is really cool inside.
And look at the little dogs.
Just a nice little amount of a dog.
The dog I need.
Right, let's see how the dog goes.
Let me try a Gus's dog.
We've got some hot dog.
Wait, what's on the outside of it?
Chili?
Is that chili?
What else have we got on the inside of this?
We've got some mustard.
We've got some onions.
Gus's meat sauce.
Here we go.
You're a legend.
I've been talking to Gus.
Gus is a legend.
This is a two-biter.
Imagine after a few drinks now.
Twenty hot dogs please.
And one you haven't.
What did you get?
Same thing.
Four hot doggies.
Get down to Gus's.
They will sort you out in two bites.
Get as many as you want.
That's it for some Gus's hot dogs.
Now let's check out some fish.
We are having a little lunch today
at the offshore pier.
Fresh seafood.
Now in fairness,
I don't know where the closest sea is
to around here.
But I'm ready for it.
I'm ready for it.
There it is right there.
Look, there's even little crabby and fish
and everything on the ground.
And it's not really a pier.
Unless there's a lake around here.
But it's one of those named things.
Let's go.
Smell of fish, smell of garden stuff.
Let's see what we've got.
Alright.
Seafood challenge.
Okay.
I'm at Asian Offshore Pier.
40 years.
Fair play to them.
Best fish fry.
I was told the fish fry is something I should have.
Yeah.
It's not quite a fish and chips type of fish.
We're about to see.
It's a different one.
We're trying it out.
The vibe in here.
Cool vibe.
That's a really good quality statue right there.
It's legit.
Yeah.
And then what we got on the menu.
Here we go.
Dinner.
Seafood matters.
Wow, there's loads here.
That's a lot of awesome food.
Nice little cozy little vibe.
Look at this.
Look at the little ship in a bowl.
Never mind a ship in a bottle.
A ship in a bowl.
Now that's some skill right there.
That looks amazing.
I want some of that.
Look at that food.
Fresh as a daisy.
So it's like a little condiment section.
Filling up tartar sauce for our fish.
Kale sauce.
What's that green stuff?
Pickle.
Relish.
And onion.
I'm getting loads of onion.
I love onion.
So yeah, today we're eating the old fish fry.
Kevin, what would you say about the fish fry?
Have you had it before?
Yes.
Is it good, yeah?
They get their fish in Boston or around that area.
Yeah.
And what's the difference between a fish fry and a fish and chip type of fish?
Fish fry is like a nice solid piece of white flaky haddock or cod.
And the fish and chips you get little pieces.
Right.
And it tends to be, some of them could be better, but they're not as good.
Okay.
Alright, so I'm looking forward to trying out these fish fries.
Let's do it.
First thing I noticed, it definitely does not look like an Irish fish and chip.
So I'm intrigued to see why it tastes different.
Oh my God.
So this is the fish fry, huh?
That is insane looking.
Size of the thing.
Alright.
Let's go, dig in.
Oh, this is it.
Whoops.
Alright, let's walk you around.
Alright.
Mac salad.
And then water.
And then these are corn nuggets.
Love on that.
So yeah, this is the fish fry.
I'm going to see about what it tastes.
This is the mac salad.
Fries are classic ridge cut.
I like that idea.
See the classic red sauce.
Not bad.
Mmm.
Good fry.
So that is tail.
Look, it looks like it's tail down there.
Like, will that be like a...
I might go for the top end first.
Mmm.
Look how flaky that looks.
That is a real flaky looking fish.
So it is kind of like fried.
Mmm.
Oh, that's good.
Mmm.
And a corn nugget.
Let's see what these lads are like.
Corn nuggets are so American, you just don't find them in Ireland.
Oh, yeah.
It's so funny.
It's tasty too.
Look at that.
It's like a little sauce, cheesy sauce.
Corn in it.
This is unreal.
Let's try this mac salad now.
Mmm.
Macaroni is a big thing in America, isn't it?
It goes in lots of stuff.
Mmm.
Look at that big, juicy, chunky fish.
Oh, that's unreal.
Flaky.
Look at that.
Chunks of that.
Well, the fish was not made in a batter.
It was more in a breaded crumb.
And the juicy flakiness to it.
The chunks are falling off.
Falling apart in your mouth.
Gorgeous.
Put some onions in here.
Go on, see if this is better.
And so when you finish eating the ends off of your fish,
it finally fits in this convenient bun here.
So I've got some tartar sauce, some onions,
and two chips with some ketchup.
Here we go.
Mmm.
So, I will say,
this place for a fish place,
was some place.
Some crack, got some fish.
We got even some corn bites.
You'd struggle to find them now in an old fish market down in Hoth anyway, but
we're in a good spot right now.
I'll be back.
Alright, I have to say, offshore pier.
They're far off the shore anyway, but
there's some pier for food anyway.
Fresh seafood restaurant, fish market.
It's actually pretty good, not gonna lie.
I wasn't expecting it.
It's a different type of a vibe than a
fish and chip in Ireland.
The chips were like the crinkly cut
and the fish fry was a skinnier piece
and it was breaded, so it battered the thing.
Interesting.
Really flaky fish stuff.
Good stuff.
And then,
their number one contender across the road.
Oh, look at you with your fish fry.
Thought that was a good idea.
Set up right beside a convenient spot
that just also sells fish fries.
You sneaks.
Alright, say goodbye to the fish and hello to the cow.
It's time for Kevin's chicken fried steak.
The reason why it's called chicken fried steak is because
it's prepared the same way you would fry chicken.
So,
into the pan she goes.
She is now
covered in breadcrumbs and oil
and mayonnaise.
And that is a steak that got pounded.
Bit of that.
Little bit of that action.
So after you do a bit of that,
you put it on that,
put it into there,
and there she goes.
And then when you see it on the plate,
it'll be a different story.
Get the steak.
You throw it in there now so you do, right?
Get it all
lubed up
because then what you're going to do
is throw it into the breadcrumbs.
But unfortunately, this one here
is already,
there's a dude chilling in there now
chilling in his breadcrumbs.
This is what it starts off like.
This is the next step.
And that's the next step.
That's all the steps.
Apart from, see the hammer?
That was one of the steps.
I'll leave the meat pounding to Kevin.
He seems like he's real good
at pounding his meat.
So I won't get in the way of him
and his hammer.
That guy looks like he knows
what he's doing.
And meanwhile, we are making our dinner.
We are also watching a bit of UFC.
Classic American Classic.
Oh yeah!
That's some good
chicken fry steak right there.
So what you do is
you dip it in the coating
so that way it has something
to dip in.
And then it sticks to the breadcrumbs.
After you mix that up
with the breadcrumbs,
you will stick it into the pan.
And then we will start seeing
how they come out in a minute.
That one goes into the mayo.
This is a lot quicker
than using the egg wash and stuff.
Yeah, because you can do it
with egg whites and egg stuff.
This is technically egg whites
because mayonnaise has bloody eggs.
So it's a different version of it.
Quick and easy.
Quick and easy version.
And then when we flip this now,
I'm going to take it
and see what it looks like.
The golden brown texture
we're looking for.
Oh yeah!
That's what we want.
That golden brown texture, baby.
So this is the style we're going for.
It's like a fried chicken look.
See?
You've got a steak
that looks like a fried chicken.
And this is what we're going for.
This is a proper skillet, people.
I don't know how skillets work in America,
but they seem to be a magic pan.
It's just to be able to do everything.
Nothing sticks to it.
It always comes out so tasty.
Leave it in the skillet.
Oh yeah.
Oh my God.
That actually looks like
chicken breasts.
KFC type of chicken.
Boom.
So your steak is coated
like KFC style chicken.
Come on.
What are you saying?
You like steak?
Fair enough.
Do you like chicken?
Yeah?
You like that shit?
How about combining
a steak
and a chicken breading coating?
Oh, come on.
Come on.
This is now going to be
the sauce for the steaks.
So what have you mixed in here together?
It's butter, flour,
pepper, salt,
and milk.
So this is going to turn into
a creamy sauce.
Looking forward to it.
Right, here we go.
We have the colors now.
So this is sweet potato.
We just need a sweet potato mash
or a sweet potato bake.
Right?
And then we go on to
the Brussels sprouts.
Fried Brussels sprouts.
They're the green.
Get the greens in to you.
And get the purples over here.
We've got some fried cabbage.
Fried red cabbage.
This literally looks like
an Irish Wagner.
Look at the green, white
go up there, boys.
Yeah, and then we've got
the chicken fried steak.
Got some mac and cheese.
Got some pulled pork.
We are going to Southerntown.
And then we've got the cheesy sauce.
This sauce is going to change
our chicken steaks for the better.
I'll tell you what.
Can't wait.
What are you?
Look at the big drooly head in you.
I can see you.
Your mouth is watering.
You wish you were a human,
don't you?
That is chicken fried steak right there.
This is basically steak
compared to fried chicken.
And now with the honourable mentions,
the Southern soul food.
Oh my God.
My mouth is watering
looking at this.
This is some of my favourite
meal in America.
This is what you call
Southern food, yeah?
Oh my God.
I want to literally live in here.
I'm going to just set up
a little bungalow over here.
I'll just live there.
Go for a walk every day.
Just to take in the flavours
and the view.
Half of that.
Yeah, half of that.
And the honourable mention.
It all goes into this.
Oh, I'm learning today.
It's the cheesiest,
cheesy looking thing
I've ever seen.
And it's not going in there as well.
So nothing is actually
going on a layer.
You don't bake this.
You just mix it up, is it?
Yeah.
Oh.
Succulent ribs.
Juiciness.
Got some
mac and cheese.
Cheesiness.
Got some
collard greens.
Some green veg.
And oh my dear God.
Cornbread delight
with some
baked, baked
barbecue beans.
The dog's mouth is watering.
Oh yeah, literally
his mouth is watering.
He's just like
can I be a human
just for a day?
Now for some
sausage and pepper
on buns
with some mac salad.
The sausage you guys do
in America
is completely different
than Ireland.
But it ain't bad by it.
It's dinner time, baby.
Peppers
and sausages.
And some mac salad.
And we've got a ruckus.
And while you're at it
if you haven't already
checked out my other food videos
I made this Irish fry up
