Oh and another huge crash and it's Jasper Philipsen who's fallen. It is a wet turn and of course so far
look at the way that these riders just slid out. Look at Jasper Stuyven, the way he slid out on
that turn. Deary me. Big crash, big crash and several riders are caught up. Picnic Personnel
with two riders down, one rider from Team Total Energy just holding his hip and that's Alexis
Brunel. Oh that's a massive crash. Hitting the deck is Nicholas Behrens again and also down
that time. What happened there? What on earth? Oh deary me. Segart. Segart has a big crash and Behrens
goes over the top. Certainly a lot more together. Need to get that bike out of the way as now they
catch Rory Townsend from the breakaway. Another injection of pace and acceleration from van der
Poel. Pogacar immediately reacts. Van der Poel is just testing these riders out now. Comes out of
Varenberg and now van der Poel starts a little bit of an acceleration. Look at van der Poel go now.
Looked around, saw the gaps of Pogacar and Pogacar is going to sit down and just try and ride his
way across. And van der Poel is going to go once more straight off the sector. Wow. Wow. Oh look at
the attack of van der Poel. Now that is a brutal strike and doesn't go through and has to leave a
gap and he doesn't want to. Look at Pogacar. Pogacar shakes his head. He cannot close the gap. He senses
here he goes. He gets a drink just in time. Takes that drink very very quickly. Oh deary me. The world
champion Tadej Pogacar is seeing stars right now. Van der Poel quite happy just to stay as Pogacar
now attacks. Another attack of the world champion. Pogacar makes his move as he starts to accelerate
away. Pedersen almost crashes on that corner and takes it very very wide. Van der Poel now has to
accelerate to try and come back and Pedersen suddenly has a problem. Now Mathieu van der Poel
has to react. Look at the speed of Pogacar the world champion. He has turned this around in the
last few kilometers. The junction's made. Pedersen's there and Pogacar is finding it difficult to close
that little two meter gap. It's van der Poel trying to put the world champion under more pressure.
Look at the grimace on the face of Pogacar and Pedersen is desperately trying to get to the end
of this sector and suddenly the head says yes but the legs say no. And now Pogacar's straight
off this sector. A big big acceleration out of the saddle. It certainly is mano a mano when you see how...
Pogacar overcooks that corner and now he needs to go but van der Poel will he take
advantage will he not? Philipsen. Oh what was that? What on earth? Why do fans do that? Someone's just
thrown a bottle straight into the face of Mathieu van der Poel. He could have a bike change. A bike change to
his original bike. So he's now gonna swap bikes back over. Oh this is slow. This must be the
moment that Paris-Roubaix is going the way of Mathieu van der Poel. A hundred percent
twists and turns and a massive crowd as they urge Mathieu van der Poel.
That was a little hot into that turn because something is going on. He's looking for the
team car. The back wheel's going. You're right he's got a puncture. Van der Poel is punctured. Bike change.
They need the bike now. Van der Poel stands at the side of the road. Asks for the mechanic. You said
he loses 30 seconds. Anything might happen. This has been incredible. Not since Francesco
Moser have we seen the triple be done here in Paris-Roubaix. The king of Roubaix. The triple.
Mathieu van der Poel wins the 122nd Paris-Roubaix. To the delights of the Roubaix crowd.
For him it's a celebration. For him he's achieved. He finishes on the podium of Paris-Roubaix
in his debut and he waves to the crowd and they give him their applause back because they have
also witnessed the most incredible bike race today. Pedersen starts the acceleration. Vermeers
goes around the top. Van Aert tries to go on the inside. Pedersen drives towards the finish line.
Leaves the door open. Vermeers challenges. Third place for Max Pedersen.
Fourth for Wout van Aert. Fifth place for Florian Vermeers.
