Today we're going to play a fun game called the City Sentence, yeah, City Sentence.
I found this game on Chinese Hubble and I never thought that we would have quite a lot
of fun playing that game.
It's a very nice game for kids to practice reading, but also for them to learn how to
make sentences.
We're going to see how to play this game and you will see that you even don't need that
game.
If you don't want to buy it, you don't need to buy it, it's not a promotion, I'm not promoting
this game.
It will of course ask you quite a preparation, but you can set it up as well in your class.
Just go check it out with the kids.
So here we go, we're going to start to play, we got everything set up.
You got the wheel right here, we got the proper noun, a deck of cards of proper noun, verb,
adjectives and noun.
When you start to play, you give each of those deck two cards to each student.
So Kendi, take two cards please, and two.
So that's proper noun, okay.
You take two of the, let me see, I'm going to give you two, all right, for you, again
two adjectives, here you go.
Two noun, again, four, Kendi.
So that's for each student, here we go, same, four.
We have three adorable girls today with me, so they're very nice.
Two again, here we go.
So we can start with the, each player has his own card, so they can set it up however
they want to set up in front of them.
And we're going to start by, we usually start by the youngest student, but it doesn't matter,
we're going to start with Kendi over there.
So Kendi, you can use the wheel, you can see that on the wheel you have all the different
verbs, adjectives, proper nouns, and we have this card, wild.
If you arrive on wild, you can choose the card you want to place here.
Whatever the card you want to place, you just choose the card you want to place here.
So let's see with Kendi, she's going to spin the wheel.
Let's start, and that's adjective, an adjective first, whatever the sentence you want to start
with, it's all good.
Okay, great.
And then we pass to the next player.
Great, let's go Lucy.
Okay, and that's a verb for Lucy, so you can choose.
We're going to have three sentences in here.
Okay, so everybody is going on the sentence in the middle, we got one here, one here.
Let's go, now Sunny, and that's a proper noun, what's his name?
Oh, you got to read, yeah, I forgot.
Kendi, can you read what's on your card?
Bumpy.
Yeah, bumpy.
Bumpy.
So it's good if the kids know what bumpy means, you can explain them, and that's great for
them to know new words, yeah?
So bumpy, all right, so we got bumpy, Lucy, can you read this one?
What?
And a name is always difficult for kids to get, Stacy.
Stacy.
Yeah, so we get Stacy walks the bumpy, okay, so we're going to see.
Stacy walks the bumpy.
Yeah, Stacy walks the bumpy.
The kid who will finish the sentence is the one who's going to read the whole sentence,
and when they understand what it's all about, it's always very funny.
All right, let's go again, Kendi?
Oh, wild, so whatever, yeah, you want to read that one?
Crap.
Okay.
Stacy.
Stacy walks the bumpy, crap.
So you always walk a dog, yeah?
You walk a dog, mostly, but this time, you're going to walk a crab, and he's bumpy.
Oh my God.
Okay, so he's going to be jumping, jumping.
Oh, okay, okay, we got a crazy crab here.
Okay, so that's the first city sentence, okay?
Next, here we go.
Yeah, go with Lucy.
Spin the wheel, and you go for proper noun.
Okay, so you can start a new sentence.
This one, this one, or this one, or that one.
Leaves, can you read?
Yes, okay, leaves.
Okay, let's go.
Sunny, what do you get?
Wild, so you can choose.
Okay, can you read?
Spins.
Yeah, just now, just now you spin, spin, okay?
This is spinning, you know, turning around like that, spins, okay?
Okay.
Okay, right, so we get leaves, spins the, we don't know what.
Yeah, we're going to see.
Let's go, Candy.
You got wild as well, so you can go and choose.
What do you choose?
A verb or no, a noun, okay?
Turtle.
Turtle, all right.
Leaves, spins, blah, blah, blah.
Turtle.
Turtle, okay.
Okay.
Let's go, Lucy.
Yeah.
And you get an adjective, here we go, choose.
Smart, okay, I guess you all know what it means, that's cool.
Okay, let's go on.
Oh, no.
So what did you spin?
Throws, okay, yes, you can only put it here, great, that's the only place that was available for, be careful.
Okay, next, let's go, Candy.
Oh, yes.
Wild.
All right, Candy, you're going to be reading.
Leaves, spins, the smart, skinny turtle.
Leaves, spins, the smart, skinny, do you know skinny?
No.
Very, very, thin.
No.
For example, Mike is fat, yeah, the opposite is thin, okay?
So, leaves, spins, spins, the smart, skinny turtle.
Okay, that's a nice one.
Let's see what's going to be this sentence.
Another noun, that's perfect.
We were, a noun was missing in this sentence.
You can choose, there's no problem.
Yeah, you can choose funny ones, that's for sure.
Choose, choose whatever you want, whatever you want.
Duck, duck.
Okay, duck.
Throws the duck.
Oh, my God.
Oh, that's a noun.
So, noun, the noun here is already used, all the nouns based are used, so we pass, turn.
And it's turn to Candy, here you go.
Another noun, pass your turn.
Okay, wild, all right.
So, wild, you can choose, and of course, you can only choose a proper noun.
Let's see, what is that?
Kate, okay.
So, we say, Kate throws the duck.
Oh, my God, that's a silly Kate, yeah?
Okay, so here, what you can do as well, which is interesting,
is that you have some blank cards where you can even write your student's name.
So, that's what we're going to do next time, yeah?
Yeah.
We can write your name, okay?
So, here you get other blank cards, we take them out.
But you can use those blank cards, write any adjectives, nouns, verbs, or proper noun.
It's really funny to use your student's name.
So, yeah, that's a really cool name, and yeah, we had fun with those silly sentences.
Lazy, you know what it means?
Lazy, right?
What is that?
Oh, yeah.
Mr. Nelson spins lazy skinny turtle.
Oh, okay.
So, it's going well, and kids are having fun with the cards, yeah.
Okay, we got Mr. Nelson loves the lazy skinny snails.
Okay, all right.
Hope you like the video.
This silly sentences is really a nice game for kids to practice reading,
and also how to make sentences.
