- A more in-detail lesson plan
for a great number of students' class?
It's right now on Mike's Home ESL.
(lively music)
Hi guys, this is Mike from Mike's Home ESL.
If you are new in here,
you've gotta know that Mike's Home ESL
is an ESL teaching tips channel.
ESL means English as a second language.
So if you're new in here,
don't forget to subscribe and ring that bell.
So here we go.
Today, I'm gonna show you a more detailed lesson plan,
especially for a great student class.
But you've gotta know that in my class,
I have 55 students.
This term, I'm teaching kids from grade one
in primary school
and we have a lot of things to teach them
in only one hour and 20 minutes.
We give them two classes a week.
Each class is about a 40-minutes class
and we have a lot of things to teach them.
Wow.
Too much.
As you can see, this is the lesson one.
Meet My Family.
And we get different parts.
Part one, drills.
Part two, let's talk.
Part three, ask and answer.
Part four, let's practice.
And part five, let's sing.
So I have two classes of 40 minutes
to teach this and in this lesson,
I will be paying attention
on teaching part one, part two
without forgetting that part four,
which is pretty much key sentences and keywords.
So when teaching this class,
you've gotta know that our school is asking us
to make sure that the kids
are all practicing, all opening their mouths.
It's very important when you learn English.
But also they have to work in pairs,
practice dialogue, remember the key sentences
and keywords, and they must be able
to read part one and part two,
which is very difficult
because the kids are grade one primary school.
Around 80% of the students have just started
to learn English.
So it's very difficult
when you get a great number of students
to get all your students involved into the class.
So I will consider all those factors
and I'm gonna have a lesson plan,
a structure in my mind.
And let's go through with it.
This is a basic lesson plan.
Here we go.
Here is a basic lesson plan
and I'm gonna go through this lesson plan
with you very quickly.
Then you will see me teaching the full class.
Part one, warm up.
So I'm gonna start with a warm up.
And it's gonna be a song about the Addam's family.
A very nice song
that you will find into the description down below.
It's from GoNoodle app.
I'm not doing the promotion of the movie,
it's just Halloween time
and here I'm talking about family in our class.
Pay attention to your timing.
The warm up must be at least five minutes
on a 40-minutes class.
Two, presentation.
The presentation it says well, five minutes
on a 40-minutes class.
Here I'm gonna use a video.
Visual is very important for kids,
especially if you have a great number of students
in your class.
So it's gonna be with Steve and Maggie about family.
Steve and Maggie are real great videos
for you to use as presentation.
And in this presentation,
I will also introduce the key sentences and keywords.
Three, practice.
So part three, practice.
It's gonna be 10 minutes out of 40 minutes.
And they will have to practice listening,
reading and comprehension.
But probably comprehension
and we'll explain them some words
like parents and grandparents
that are not easy to understand for them.
And we'll leave that comprehension
for the next class
as I have two classes to teach this lesson.
Four, production.
The production, 10 minutes out of 40 minutes again.
And I will have the kids to work in pairs.
I will let them to work in pairs.
I will come and see and try to correct them.
And I will let them practice the dialogue as well.
And try to play a game.
But you will see in this lesson,
you always have to get a plan B ready
because in this lesson,
the game I wanted to play is the Big Wheel
and the computer wasn't working,
so I just ended up giving them points.
Five, wrap up.
Part five, the wrap up.
It's gonna take at least five minutes out
of 40 minutes and it's gonna be a review.
I'm gonna review the key sentences and keywords.
And finish the class on a happy note.
So remember that this lesson plan
is just a basic lesson plan.
You have to give more informations
about how, your methods and all that stuff.
I will give you a formal lesson plan
at the end of this video.
But this lesson plan is what you should have in mind.
So let's go.
Find the kids in the classroom.
Sorry for the video quality.
That was a video filmed by the school.
I'll try to arrange it a little.
Let's go and check it out.
