The Dolomites are a bikers' paradise, and in truth it’s difficult to point to just one favourite road in the area. At last count I had about 30 favourites, but for the purpose of this guide I had to settle on just one and the circular route around the Sella Massif taking in Passo Campogolo, Passo Gardena, Passo Sella and Passo Pordoi, was it.
The roads are simply superb in the line they take, the condition of the tarmac and the riding demands placed on the rider. There is not one yard of this 32-mile route that does not delight or inspire or clarify the sheer joy of riding a motorcycle in spectacular scenery.
There are too many switchbacks to count, too many highlights to recall and plenty of cafes and restaurants along the way to stop, chill and take in the magnificence of the place.
Hi, my name is Alan Davis from Adventure Bike Rider and right now I'm sitting in the ballroom
of a 24-hour ferry traveling from Palermo in Sicily to Genoa on the northern Italian coast.
We're on our way home, we have to travel in the whole length of the country. Along the way we've
shot a series of six short videos featuring what we believe to be the most iconic routes in the
From the glaciated mountains of the Alps right down to the smouldering flanks of Etna,
we've had a great day. In episode three we've carried on moving east from the Stelvio and we
found ourselves in the Dolomites which in my opinion are the most spectacular mountain range
in the world and they have the roads to match. It was very difficult for us to pick out a single
road in the Dolomites but we had to do it and we eventually settled on the circular route
which travels around the cliff faces of the Sala Massif.
The route around the Sala Massif takes in four equally spectacular passes
and they are Campolongo, Gardena, Pordai and the Sala Pass itself.
Well, I'm sure you all agree the Dolomites are pretty spectacular. In episode four we head south
where don't pass Venice to Bologna where we check out the Ducati Museum,
ride the iconic Fuda Pass and head on down to Tuscany for some history and culture. I hope
you join us there and if you want any more detailed information on our routes check out
