Like spring is slowly turning into summer here in the English countryside. We've had record high
temperatures in the UK recently and although my life is very full at the moment I'm doing my best
every day to embrace slow living and this beautiful time of the year here in Somerset.
The country lanes are laced with cow parsley and the hedgerows are buzzing with life. Nature never
hurries yet everything is unfolding just as it should and I deeply believe the same is true for
life. After years of dreaming my husband and I have reached a huge milestone. We have bought
our first home. It's a small house on the edge of village on Somerset levels and it will become
a safe heaven for our family of four. But before that happens there's a lot to do.
Standing here in this kitchen makes me ponder about the past and the future. It's in this
kitchen that I started Wire Studio. The first candles were made in exactly the same spot. I am
now mixing eggs and sugar. I know my viewers have grown used to this kitchen. People often recognize
it before they recognize my face. This is where I started learning to bake too so I have a deep love
and sentiment for this place. But at the same time it was always a rented home and I could never
make changes or upgrades. In our new home I get to design the kitchen of my dreams and I know
I'll make it a cozy welcoming cottage style kitchen with peaceful countryside views.
Today I am making a simple sponge cake with whipped cream and strawberries. Time and time
again life proves to me that the simple things are the best. For me a simple life means I don't
chase trends or luxury items. Luxury is the health of my children, time in nature, baking
cakes for my family and tending to my home unhurried and happy.
If you ever wonder what luxuries you might already have just look around and notice the things in
your life that many people can only dream of. Maybe it's lovely relationships, a safe home,
children or even grandchildren. Many people don't get to have these luxuries in their life
so let's not take ours for granted. And speaking of trends I written a new post about things
actually worth chasing this summer. It's up on the blog I will link it in the video description.
I hope it will inspire you in the coming months to slow down and embrace the season.
I think I need another one. Which one you're going to take? The one with Jacob and you.
out so whimsical and cottagecore. I feel like this cake could be served at a fairy party deep
in the woods. It looks so enchanting. While baking I burned our cozy cottage candle that
smells of magnolia and cherry. It's such a lovely scent perfect for inviting summer into your home.
You can find it on our website.
We will be living in this house for at least another month before the new place is ready
for us to move in. But I'm not going to keep you waiting. I will show you our new home
as it is now. Even though it's empty and needs a lot of love which we are of course ready to give.
There it is.
Just beyond the line of trees are some farm buildings and that's it. The somerset levels,
mainly fields and pastures, stretch for miles. I'm so excited to explore them and the surrounding
villages. The house is humble and for my American viewers probably still quite small. But compared
to our current rental we will have so much more space. I'm incredibly excited about the utility
room which will also become our pantry and a separate dining room where I can finally
have a large table to host just as I always dreamed.
We have met several of our new neighbors already and they are all lovely people. They have welcomed
us to the village and the community. Some have lived here since the houses were built in 1986
and they have true love for the village and the surrounding countryside. Honestly I can't imagine
a better place for me to live and create. I know this is the house where I am going to write my
Once we settle into the house it will be the middle of summer and that's when our autumn
sales really begin. The shop gets busy in August and as people start preparing for autumn,
pumpkin spice candles start flying off the shelves and things only speed up until December.
That's why it's even more important for me to curate those pockets of slowness whenever I can.
I will be sharing the journey of turning this house into a home
behind the scenes of our business and all the cozy moments from my life with you
here on my channel and the blog and I would love for you to come along.
Thank you so much for watching and I will see you soon!
