First to three between these two teams, something of a seismic event this weekend,
potential Richter scale readings in the Bronx. Let's get your Hyundai opening comment.
Bob, it's going to be tense. It's going to be intense. We're talking about two teams.
We're in first place right now. So that just adds even more to this series. We talk about two
passionate fan bases. The Mets and the Yankees have loyal fans who follow them around.
And in every story that you talk about in this New York state of mind,
you're going to have stars and you're going to have arch enemies.
Course of 162 games, you know, there's games and series that it feels a little bit bigger.
And I'm sure that'll have that feeling when we walk out there, even though,
you know, really for us, it is another series. It's another series against a good club,
but we'll also feel that energy. I believe in the building,
you know, when you play the Mets and another good team.
It's always fun. It's always fun playing the subway series. It doesn't matter
what year it is. It's always going to be exciting. The fans are going to get into it.
It's always back and forth, you know, different chants,
the cheering, the booing, everything, but it's a good ballclub going after it.
Pitch, Valenzo, swing, a line drive. Oh, it died by the third baseman.
Belly and Goldie and what they've brought on both sides of the ball. And I feel like we have a lot
of different ways offensively to beat you in a lot of different places. You got to navigate them.
Broken back, up the middle and grabbed there by Lindori. As one play can't make it at first,
the ball goes upstairs and gets away from Alonzo. A second run will score,
and the Yankees lead two to nothing.
Swing and a hit to third, underneath the stump, base hit.
Here's Judge to score. Ellington moves up 90 feet. Paul Goldsmith with another RBI,
his second tonight, 24 in the season. It's 5-1 Yankees. 3-2, swing and a miss.
And it gets Marte. Yeah, good pitch down and in, swing and a miss.
Surprised to see Goldsmith go and get that ball. Yeah, it was. It was a lot of range for,
I think, a 37, 38-year-old, so it's a heck of a play, so I was very happy.
Popped up shallow right. Oh, what a play by Goldsmith. He took a base hit away from Taylor,
showing great range and staying in bounds for the first down. Valenzo, here it comes, and swing
and a miss is for you now. What does he need that? Carlos Rondon finishes with a flourish.
I won't be afraid to put it low in any situation.
To get another outing like that out of Devin Williams,
what have you seen from him lately? What was it like seeing him strike off the side tonight?
Yeah, he was great. Fastball was good. He threw a couple changeups that just disappeared.
My vantage point over there, you know, in our dugout, like the depth on those pitches were
really good, but yeah, and that's who he is right there, and we're seeing it more.
Swing and a miss. That's an impressive eighth inning for Devin Williams. He strikes out the side.
This should do it. Fly ball center field. Grisham coming on, and that will do it,
and the Yankees win this one six to two. Carlos Rondon won five innings. He gets the win. Soto
and his return back to the Bronx, 0 for 2 with three walks, and the Yankees start this three
game set off with a victory. Just being around Max a little bit now, what have you picked up
about how he prepares for a start? You know, does he treat a big game like this any differently?
Not really. One thing I've noticed and certainly appreciated is he's a really good competitor.
He likes it. He likes pitching. He competes really well out there without getting,
you know, he's still very easy to communicate with while he's doing it. He's easy to talk to.
He's not, you know, he's not so lazy and focused that, but you know, there's an intensity with him
that he competes. Four count to Soto. He is good. Swing and a miss. Good outing back-to-back now
for Devin Williams. Seriously, I'm a little bummed out. I want us to win. I just don't
want us to win. Eleven pitch at bat. Mimas got the ball in play. Fielder's choice with an error
charge to Alonzo. And the Yankees have a 3-2 lead.
Goldschmidt continues a phenomenal season. I love it when I have that guy hit by him.
Kind of stand on that field and help the team win. I mean, that's what it's all about. So,
I'm just trying to, you know, do what I can to be a part of this team. And
I like where we're at. So, we just got to keep going.
