Hey, Ryan from Florida Truck Group, here in beautiful Soniopopka, Florida, home of Orlando Freightliner and this guy, Western Star.
Who we're here for today, one of the questions I get all the time is, what's the deal with that 5700XE Western Star?
That's what this video is about.
So here's the deal on the Western Star. Originally started in 1967 by the White Motor Company.
They're no longer in business.
Daimler acquired them in the year 2000.
You might have heard of Daimler. Daimler comes from North America.
Their sister brand is the Freightliner.
That's what this truck shares with the Freightliner.
It's a modern-day running gear that has made it to the Cascadia so successfully.
The Detroit Powertrain, DP-12 Automated Transmission, DP-15.
Those same options are available in this truck, but with that old-school Western Star feel to it.
I mean, these trucks were originally built in Canada, back when the White Motor Company had them.
A lot of that heritage from those trucks has come down with it.
I mean, think about it.
This thing's got a steel cabinet, galvanized, welded, bonded.
It's not riveted.
This thing's going to stay together for a lot of years.
That's the point.
82-inch stratosphere sleeper, one of the largest sleepers you can get in a factory truck.
48-inch lower bump, cherry wood cabinets.
I mean, this thing's just old-school cool.
There's nothing else that you really would want in a cool, old-school truck.
These trucks are just not popular here in the U.S.
I mean, countries like Australia and Canada.
Some of the most rugged country in the world.
I mean, these things originally were developed in the Great White North.
I mean, think about it.
These things are still old-school, steel cabs.
Again, heavy, nice doors.
We don't see this today in today's trucks.
Everything's been lightweight and lightened up in aerodynamics and technology.
It's got the technology.
I mean, if you want some Harry Potter, a wizard tree, a fuel economy, this thing's got it.
What it doesn't have is that modern spaceship look.
It doesn't have that look.
We've kept it traditional.
Come over here and look at this.
I grew up old-school.
I grew up with long-nose conventional trucks.
I won't say the names, but they've been around forever.
Well, we don't see that today.
This thing, it's still got it.
Look at the grill.
The grill on this thing is nice, thick, square, chrome.
But, it had to go with that arrow.
So, you look at the air deflection on the top.
Your sun visor, nice round shape.
Blows that air right over the top of the roof.
Landed hood.
These things.
Fangs.
I mean, the truck's got fangs.
How cool is that?
So, the normal attention span of a viewer is about five minutes, is what Mark Richard said.
Mine's 45 seconds.
So, let's wrap this thing up.
One last note to the truck.
What is the deal with the Weapon Star?
Well, it's not just the technology.
It's not just the modern running gear or the Harry Potter fuel savings, the wizard tree, the computers.
What is this?
This thing's like a nightclub.
This is a movie star.
This is the same truck used in Transformers movies.
Which is often fine.
And, it's even goes farther back than that.
Remember Maximum Overdrive?
The Green Goblin?
Or even Amelio Estevez?
Either way, the deal with this truck is this.
It's just badass.
And they got cool hats.
