Join us on our weekend exploring the United States' newest national park – New River Gorge National Park – and its adorable and historic nearby town, Fayetteville! Rookies On The Road Season 2 Episode 10
Good morning.
It's officially fall and I'm obsessed with it
and it's Saturday.
So as you can see, I never get this dressed up,
put makeup on.
We're going into Fayetteville, Fayetteville, West Virginia.
I'm very excited.
I have heard such good things from people on Instagram
telling me to go, friends, family.
So we're very excited to have a day.
And we've got a friend.
And Mojo is, he's a little anxious today.
He's not, he's like shaking.
Are you still okay?
Okay, put him down.
Yeah, so today we're going to go do some shopping,
some eating.
Tomorrow will be our hiking day,
but today we're just going to go explore the town.
All right, let's go.
Thank you, sir.
We are on Summersville Lake,
which honestly, I'd never heard of it.
It is absolutely gorgeous.
The perfect place to go boating, kayaking.
It's a little chilly for kayaking.
And we tried to rent a boat this weekend,
but you have to be 25 or older.
And I'm 25 in a month.
That's not happening.
And I'm 22.
And Dylan is just not even close.
Yeah, but really, really loving this campsite.
Highly recommend it.
And we're actually going to go up to the main lodge area.
I haven't been in there yet,
but apparently it's super cute.
I can't.
These decorations are the most.
I'm here for it.
Hi.
This is so cute.
Okay.
There's a dog right there.
Hey, Mojo, come on.
Mojo, where are we?
I'm going to give him a snack.
So basically what we're up to,
we are at a doggy daycare center.
Because where we're going today,
obviously a lot of it's like in restaurants and shops.
So we wanted him to have like a fun day.
Look at your food.
And I didn't want to have to like,
not be able to go into shops and like keep him in the car.
So that'd be very boring for him.
So we brought him to the daycare center.
We're going to leave him here for like four or five hours.
And he's going to get a bath and get his nails trimmed,
which is very needed.
He gave you the meanest look.
He's like, you guys are betraying me right now.
I know.
It's okay.
He'll have fun.
Those dogs seem nice and friendly.
I feel like we're parents and we're like
dropping our kid off at daycare.
All right.
Off to Fayetteville we go.
Thank you.
Okay, so we're currently at the Cathedral Cafe,
which is as you can see, a cafe in an old church.
All these books, stained glass,
and the food looks amazing.
And I'm so hungry.
Okay, this smells so good.
We got, I got a smoked salmon bagel.
I haven't had smoked salmon in so long.
I very rarely eat fish, but I'm treating myself.
And then to share, guys, this is French toast croissants.
They're kind of, don't look like croissants,
but they look amazing.
So we're going to split this.
I got a burrito.
Nice.
Good?
So good.
This is amazing.
That looks fire.
You comfy?
Oh yeah.
So upstairs is the consignment area.
This amazing like fleece jacket, $20.
I'm getting it.
I'm obsessed.
And it folds up really little, but it's like insulating.
It's an extra small.
I'm usually a small, but we're going to squeeze
because it's $20.
Thank you.
Cheers.
You like it?
Yeah, I can tell it's strong.
I got a hazy, but it's like 9%.
So they only serve it in a, what is this?
Eight, nine ounce.
I got an IPA.
I'm boring.
You want to try mine?
Sure.
Let's grab pizza.
It's a pizza for you and me.
Let's check it.
Oh, oh, dude.
That does look good.
That is for later.
What?
Wow, that's a deep drop.
I don't understand how they did this.
So we're at the main event,
New River Gorge National Park.
This is the newest established national park in the US.
It was established in 2020
and it's a three minute drive from Fayetteville.
So we are at the bridge overlook right now
and it's insane.
Oh my God, this looks crazy.
Wow.
So there's lots of trails all around the gorge
that we are going to be doing tomorrow
if the weather cooperates.
The rain's coming.
All right, so that was fun.
But now we must go get our child.
We don't have a child.
I don't need a real child.
I just need Mojo.
Well, look who it is.
Dylan literally opened the door
and he jumped into my lap.
He's so cute.
You are nice and soft and clean.
He seems very happy.
Did you have lots of play time?
Yeah.
Way too many ******* blueberries in this.
Oh my God.
It's like just all blueberry now.
Mojo, are you ready for an adventure?
I wanna go now.
So antsy.
Oh no.
Oh, oh.
We've had like a nice chill morning,
but it is supposed to start torrentially downpouring
this afternoon.
So we are heading to New River Gorge National Park
to do a hike,
and then we're going to a brewery.
It's gonna be great.
Hopefully we'll get back before it pours.
Okay, so we've been on this hike for like five minutes
and it's so much more beautiful than I expected.
This whole area right here
is apparently a transitional area.
I've learned from this billboard.
I don't just know this.
It's a transitional area
between two natural communities,
fields and forest.
And it's so pretty.
It looks like a big meadow.
So we are currently hiking to Long Point,
which is a fairly easy hike.
It's only three miles.
It's really flat out and back.
And apparently at the end,
there's a really beautiful lookout point.
So I'm very excited,
but I'm honestly very blown away.
The environment is so, so pretty.
Yeah, Mojo, go.
Go, Mojo, go.
What do you think, Mojo?
This is our first overlook.
Okay, that was the first one,
but the main event is still to come.
Those clouds are rolling in right now.
I think we got the last of the sun.
This bridge is actually the longest single arch bridge
in the Western hemisphere.
Fun facts.
We've got rain coming.
Okay.
In 30 minutes.
All right, we'll head out.
Mojo's like, I'm comfy.
I'm good right here.
All right, we're moving out.
The rain's coming.
See you on the other side.
We escaped the rain at Arrowhead Bike Farm
right down the road,
where we ordered a couple of local beers,
some quesadillas and some nachos.
Super delicious and a really great vibe there.
All right, so we're back
and I'm gonna make a fall butternut squash soup.
So ingredients, we got a butternut squash,
a onion, a big thing of kale.
This is gonna be fun to de-stem.
Some garlic, some kidney beans,
these diced tomatoes with green chili and vegetable broth.
And we're cooking it all in my trusty little crock pot.
I'm so excited.
I'm currently Googling how to cut a butternut squash.
Seems like I'm not the only one that's asked.
Okay, so you slice off the ends and then you peel it.
I don't have a vegetable peeler.
Okay, I'll have to cut off the peel with a knife.
Cut it in half, scrape out the seeds.
Think our only issue will be the lack of vegetable peeler,
but otherwise I think we're good.
No one make fun of me
for my butternut squash peeling skills, okay?
This is the first time.
Oh my God, I thought we didn't have a vegetable peeler,
but we do.
I've never used it, but I found one.
I'm so excited.

Onions are killing me.
I'm literally, I can't.
All right, so we're officially heading out
of our campsite here at Summersville Lake.
We've loved it so much, haven't we?
This is probably one of the best ones we've been to.
For sure, it's been my favorite.
So highly recommend coming here,
Mountain Lake Campground, Summersville, West Virginia.
We're now packing up and heading to another campsite
a little further north, but still in West Virginia.
And it is in a really, really cool area
with some awesome, adventurous places
that we want to check out.
And we may or may not be having a very exciting guest
in the next video.
So make sure to subscribe, stay tuned for that.
And my camera died, but as always,
thank you so much for watching this video
and I will see you in the next one.
Bye.
