Good morning. It's about seven o'clock in the morning here in Manila.
I'm leaving the city in about five hours. I really just have time for breakfast
and I wanted to check out the breakfast. The last time I was here I loved the dinner buffet
here at Cafe Yilan Yilan. So today I figured I'd try the breakfast.
So there's different types of eggs and local breakfast items. Beautiful array of pastries,
pancakes, waffles, all the typical breakfast items you expect to see on a buffet. Freshly
grilled fish. You can smell that smoky fish as soon as you step into the restaurant.
That's definitely a musket. Let's go for round one.
This is definitely a super stunning hotel. The buffet actually comes breaks into different
sections. There's local Filipino food, there's Indian food, there's Korean food. I just went
ahead and started off my day with some Filipino breakfast items, which I think is the best
looking on the buffet. Look at this. Corned beef. This is the freshly grilled milk fish
that I was looking at. There's mahi, there is stewed lechon, and of course longganisa.
Also I got a salted egg because when you're eating rice, salted egg is amazing. Of course
got some garlic rice too. All right this mahi tastes really good with the peppercorn. I wish
I got a freshly fried piece. Mahi tends to dry out a little bit. It's still not bad,
but definitely freshly freshly out of the fryer. This would have been really really good.
Yeah salted egg with rice. If you never tried it, incredible. So this is lechon paksi. Of course
it's made with the leftover lechon and it's cooked in salt and vinegar.
And it's glorious, especially if you pair it up with some salted eggs. I think salted eggs
is one of the best things you could ever eat with rice. For me, just give me some salted
eggs and rice. That's pretty much a complete meal. This lechon is awesome. It's so tender.
Now it's nice and vinegary. That's a perfect rice complement right there.
This is the milkfish. This one looks a little dry. I don't know if this is the one that just
came off the grill. A little dry. Still tasty. You definitely taste the fire. The flavor is delicious.
Yeah I think I'll go look for a juicier piece next time. It's really good though. Corned beef
of course is a very popular breakfast dish here in the Philippines. It's probably my
favorite breakfast dish back in the U.S. The corned beef here definitely looks more like, you know,
beef. That's good. Oh the corned beef here is so good actually. Salty, fatty.
So good with garlic rice. Another breakfast staple, of course the longganisa. Wow.
It's so soft, a little sweet. Oh that's good. Nice and smoky too. I feel like this is my
perfect breakfast plate right here. A little fish, a little corned beef, some salted eggs,
a beautiful sausage. Yeah I could just go back and hit repeat on this and just have the most
complete breakfast. The only thing that could be improved upon is a juicier fish. Round two.
This looks like a pretty authentic tea egg too. It's good. That's a good tea egg.
Pancita's good. Spicy, squid's delicious. I love these. These are one of my favorite dim sum items.
Little black bean spareribs. They cook that very well. That thing is super tender.
This is the ginger scallion chicken. So this is definitely something that's probably from their
dinner buffet. It's still so good, especially with the added ginger scallion sauce. You gotta
add the sauce. The sauce makes this chicken. Love it. Also they have chicken dumplings.
I'm gonna dunk this in the vinegar a little bit.
A little dense but a thin wrapper and a ginormous filling.
Not bad. Let's keep going. Round three.
It's great. Oh the scrambler is so good too. Chicken patty. Dunk it in the gooey yolk. A little
dense but not bad. All right this is my guilty pleasure. I am an absolute sucker for potato
wedges. I love potato wedges. And this little fish. This is incredible. Munch right into the head.
That's the best part. Crunchy. Absolute umami bomb. Salty. It's smoky. Eat the fish with some
of your eggs. Absolute breakfast perfection. In my opinion, much better than a breakfast sausage.
And much healthier. Oh totally forgot that I dipped the fish in the vinegar. I'm just gonna grab a
chili as well. Oh that's nice. All right I got myself a breakfast plate with some
pico. Some rice cakes and what looks like a cheese bread. Rice cakes in this country are
second to none. It's so soft and chewy and not overly sweet. Pair that up with some coffee or tea.
Heaven. This waffle looks really good.
Let's go waffle. I'm usually not a waffle or pancakes person but both of these look really
appetizing. Yeah really solid waffle and pancakes. Check out this cheese bread. It's kind of shaped
like a Yorkshire pudding with cheese and condensed milk. And of course this ube flavor too.
The sweet cheese is nice. Bread is definitely soft and pillowy.
I think for breakfast for me, I prefer savory items more. But not bad. Especially the rice
cakes. All right I'm gonna grab another savory plate before the ultimate sweet breakfast item.
A little turtle bun. Inside is, oh looks like red bean paste.
Two delicious little pastries. So my final plate of savory items. Some corned beef, more of the lechon,
sauteed garlic rice and potato wedges. This is definitely my kind of buffet. I mean you can go
for the typical bacon eggs if you want. It's available but traditional Filipino food for
breakfast is amazing. After this, the ultimate sweet breakfast item. This to me is the most
ultimate sweet dish to get for breakfast here in the Philippines. This is a chocolate porridge and
you add some evaporated milk to it to kind of dilute the thickness a little bit and make it
more creamy. But they're pretty much out of evaporated milk. This thing's like adult porridge
for kids. I mean it's porridge. That also tastes like Coco Pops. It's like the most revolutionary
breakfast item I've ever tried anywhere. I love it. This is another thing I got. This is a taho.
So this is soaking tofu with syrup and some sago on top. And it's wonderful. It's so wonderful.
This is a dessert you'll find in a lot of Asian countries. Like in China, we call those tofu
brains. So soft. You can eat it sweet. You can eat it savory. I've never had it with sago before.
Ridiculously soaky tofu with little chewy tapioca balls. Absolutely delicious.
What a way to finish breakfast here. Well like I said, I only have time for breakfast. My flight
leaves in a few hours and this will wrap up my trip this time to the Philippines. And this time
I was definitely able to go to a lot more cities that I've never been to before. I was actually
trying to go to Baguio, which is considered the summer capital of the Philippines. So believe it
or not, right now outside is like 95 degrees. It's super humid. But in that city right now, it's I
think, I don't know what the humidity is. 70 degrees. 70 degrees like in the middle of the day.
That's incredible. And that's supposed to be a place where you get a lot of delicious fruits,
vegetables. I didn't get a chance to go to some of the island places. But I feel like I definitely
went to a lot of the food-focused cities here in the Philippines. I feel like every city is
food-focused here in the Philippines. But being able to go to General Santos for some fresh tuna,
Bacalao for an insal, which is just incredible by the way. I already miss it. And I'll say this
again. Filipinos, the friendliest of all Asians. And I really do appreciate everybody that I met
on this trip. Everyone was so nice, so welcoming. This is definitely a place that I'm gonna miss.
I think I'm good for my flight home. And as always, thank you all so much for watching.
Until we meet again, see you later.
