The four basic skin types and why choosing a personalized skin regimen is extremely important.
Because finding the right skincare routine can be tough especially if you're new to the game.
And whilst geology takes all of the guesswork out of finding the right skincare regimen for
your skin type and conditions, sometimes it's just nice to learn a little bit about the science
behind it. And that's why in this video I want to talk about four skin types and how to determine
So normal skin is well-balanced skin that is neither too oily or too dry. This skin has fine pores,
smooth and soft skin texture, little to no blemishes and uniform colouring.
So dry skin produces less sebum aka oil than normal skin. Lack of sebum in dry skin means
that it lacks the lipids to retain moisture. And on top of that, because it lacks lipids,
it also doesn't have this protective chute against the external environment. And you can
tell that you have dry skin if your skin feels too tight. You have a scaly look, your skin is
quite rough textured and you have a very dull look. Usually those with dry skin also tend to get those
white snowflakes appearing on their skin. And a fun fact is that significantly more women suffer
from dry skin relative to men. And our skin gets drier as you age and thus over the course of the
So the opposite of dry skin is oily skin and in this instance your skin produces too much sebum
and frequently moderate to severe breakouts. And you can tell that you've got oily skin if your
skin looks a little bit glossy. And when it comes to the pores of your skin, you can definitely
visibly see them because they are a bit enlarged relative to normal or dry skin.
Number four, combination skin. And this one's a little bit tricky but it is exactly how it sounds.
So you will have dry skin and also oily skin. And this is the skin type that I used to have
when I initially started to get into the skincare game. People with the combination skin type tend
to have dry cheek area but when it comes to the t-zone area, so your forehead, your nose and your
chin area over here, hence why this is a t-area, on that particular area it tends to be oily. And
I truly don't want to make it more complicated than it already is because you've got four different
skin types and determining which one you've got is already a task. But there's a variable on top
of that and that's the sensitivity of your skin. And it doesn't matter which one of the skin types
you've got, you can still have sensitive skin. Skin that is sensitive might have notable triggers
like having a red flush area if you're someone that's gonna have drinks, food or even extreme
weather conditions such as when it's extremely windy or when the sun is out. Those individuals
with sensitive skin are also those individuals that get easily sunburned, experience stinging and
a burning sensation with products with perfume in it and the list goes on and on. And that's why
skincare is very personal and a science in itself. You need to be able to identify what kind of skin
type you are, your sensitivity level and also your goals, what you want to get out of your skincare
system because this way you can maximize the results that you want. Because a person with dry
skin that's trying to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles will have a completely different skincare
regimen than an individual with oily skin that is trying to get rid of acne. And thus that's why it's
super important to find a personalized system for you that is altered to your skin needs and will
give you the results that you're looking for. Because let's be honest we all want a well-balanced
healthy normal looking skin. And to achieve that the first step is to learn what your skin type is
because this way you'll be a lot more focused and narrowed down on what kind of skin you have and
what measurements you have to take to take care of your skin. And once you've done that you can
have a deeper dive and look at what the right ingredients are for you to maximize your results.
And I don't want to make this too difficult to understand but for example if you're someone that
has dry skin and you want to get well-balanced skin you need to have a skin boosting cocktail
of squalane, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. While someone with oily skin needs to make sure
that their moisturizer is oil free yet still has all of those ingredients by different percentages.
So who has time to learn what percentage of what ingredient works best for your skin? And that's
where geology comes into play. We take out the guesswork from all of the ingredients and give
you a personalized system for you. So if you want to know what personalized system will be best for
you and your skin type to get you the results that you're looking for. I will have a free
diagnostic test in the description and this way you can take the free diagnostic test and at the
