Is it expensive to go to Sardinia?
Guys, it is not.
We all come into Sardinia with only one major goal.
To enjoy our trip as much as we can.
And this is exactly what I want to discuss with you in this video.
How to plan the perfect, unforgettable trip to Sardinia.
Let's dive in.
Most important question and when.
When to go to Sardinia?
My absolutely favorite time to go to Sardinia would be from very end of August until middle of September.
Temperature is so pleasant.
It's going to be about 25-27C outside and the water will be super warm.
Italians are back to work themselves.
Kids are going to school.
So it's like a paradise.
Everything is open.
You can choose from any restaurant you want.
You can have any experience you want.
And you don't need to fight for that sunbed on the beach.
Why not May or June then?
Because you might get disappointed with the temperature of especially water.
It's usually not warm enough yet.
I checked myself.
So to play it safe, target middle of June closer to very end of June or July.
Why not August?
Usual thing like all over Italy.
Peragosto.
Peragosto is a traditional celebration in Italy.
You can imagine how difficult it will be to find your space on the beach.
To book your table in the restaurant.
Plus the prices are much higher than out of that season.
Because lots of demand creates a lot of inflated prices.
And still plus 40C with crowds and crowds of tourists.
Think twice.
And how?
How to go?
Normal way.
You take a flight from Rome, from Milan directly to Sardinia.
So you're flying to Rome, to Rome Piumicino.
You're staying in Rome for a few days.
After that you're shooting to Sardinia.
Staying there for a week or two weeks.
After that you can fly back to Milan for example.
Stay in Milan for two days.
We talk more than two days in Milan believe me.
From Milan you can go to Como Lake.
Or to any part of Northern Italy which is so interesting.
But there is another way.
Much better way to do it actually.
You can do it by ferry boat.
This boat takes something from 6 to 8 hours from Rome.
But there is a massive advantage of taking ferry boat from Rome to Sardinia.
Which brings us to point number 3.
Guys do not rely on public transport in Sardinia.
You better rent a car.
In my own experience in 7 years I don't really think I've seen any bus in Sardinia.
I'm not sure if they exist in Sardinia and how regular they are.
When my friends and I are renting cars in Sardinia we prefer having Maggiore.
It's Italian company and the price is usually much better than ours.
But you can always rent a car in Rome.
The price must be lower.
And a good thing that you don't really need to drive around Rome.
You just need to set off early enough not to get stuck in local traffic.
And drive to the ferry which usually takes about 40 minutes, max 1 hour.
After that you put in your car on this ferry boat and you enjoy your trip to Sardinia.
But anyway you getting to Sardinia by ferry boat or by flight.
Guys please don't deny the fact that you must absolutely must rent a car in Sardinia.
As it's the best way to travel around the island and will save you a lot of time.
And next accommodation in Sardinia and hotels vs Airbnb.
Here everything depends on your preferences and your budget.
If you're a fan of secure holidays when everything is planned and predicted go for the hotel.
If you're a little bit more adventurous you can go for Airbnb experience.
The price close to always will be much better than the prices in the hotel.
Plus considering that it's bed and breakfast experience you have a massive chance to experience
that real Sardinian breakfast with real Sardinian food.
Next question and how long for you should go to Sardinia.
Guys let me stop you right away.
Because for some reason many people tend to think that ok Sardinia is an island.
I will need 2-3 days and I will discover it all.
No guys unfortunately it doesn't work like this.
Just imagine even to drive from Kalleri which is the capital of Sardinia up north
where I used to stay in Palau it takes about 4-5 hours to drive.
So usually when you come to Sardinia especially for the first time and at least stay for 1 week.
If you can allocate 2 weeks that's even better.
In this case you have a chance to discover both parts of Sardinia.
Depending on what sort of experience you want to have.
If you want to have plenty of nightlife, if you want to try windsurfing, kitesurfing
and if you want to have parties with the yachts and everything
Northern Sardinia Olbia airport this is your area top target.
If you want more rural holidays and more authentic Sardinia with more local and everything
you definitely need to go all the way south to Kalleri then Alghero and that part of the island.
If you have 2 weeks which is even better you can spend 1 week up north
and discover all this nightlife and everything and when you run out of your budget
you are going all the way down south which will take you about 5-6 hours of drive.
But the second week you will stay particularly close to Alghero or that part of Sardinia.
So that would be my ideal holiday in Sardinia.
Sixth and yes I just answered your question which part of Sardinia north or south.
Two major things to remember here.
North part fashion, trendy, more expensive.
South part authentic, close to the capital, wild.
And last but not least question number 7 I'm getting asked all the time
OMG you are going to Sardinia every single year and it's so expensive.
Is it expensive to go to Sardinia?
Guys it is not.
And you will be surprised how cheap Sardinia actually is.
For example perfectly tasty and Italian.
Morning cappuccino in Sardinia will cost you 1.5 euros.
Insane.
But again you need to know this thing before you are planning a trip.
Guys remember there is a place called Porto Cervo.
So everything what's around that area will be double price.
It's more touristy one.
If you have a lot of money to spend, if you want to have similar experience as Mykonos
or south of France, Cannes, Nice, Porto Cervo this is the right part for you.
But if you like backpacker style and you want to have something authentic get out of there.
Stay somewhere in the north.
I like Palau, I like La Maddalena.
It's more isolated from Norwegians.
I would say for Scandinavians La Maddalena is actually perfect place to stay in Sardinia.
And as usual I cannot let you go after just answering your questions.
Let me give you a little bit of bonus action for the video.
Undress coat for Sardinia.
Don't bring too many clothes for here.
It's my typical mistake that I'm bringing a whole suitcase to Sardinia.
And in fact I'm wearing just two t-shirts and one pair of shorts.
And for the evening whole shirt and little bit longer shorts to go for dinner.
And that would be it.
Guys, save that space in your luggage to bring some amazing local things from Sardinia.
It's gonna be much better than overtaking the clothes.
You're never gonna use them.
And again payment things in Sardinia.
Guys, please when you come to Italy forget about having lots of cash with you.
Don't exchange your own currency into Euros.
First of all you will not really need it here.
I'm using my Revolut all the time anywhere I go all around Italy.
Including Sardinia, all over Rome.
Even paying for souvenirs and one Euro water when I need to get one.
Best one. You literally paying in local currency.
