Tonight, from San Francisco, California, Oracle Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants,
it is the Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants in game two of this three-game series.
On the hill tonight for the Giants will be the veteran right-hander, Justin Verlander.
Verlander in his 20th year, he's pitched very well.
He has not had much luck in getting his first win as a Giant.
Perhaps tonight he will get one for the win column.
Kyle Manzardo, the batter, line drive right field.
Jastrzemski on the move.
I think he got caught by the sun and that gets by him and goes to the fence.
And in the second base is Kyle Manzardo with a double.
Yeah, that sun complete havoc right now for the right fielders.
You can see this is a hanging breaking ball.
Kyle Manzardo did not miss this pitch.
You can see it looks definitely like he lost that pitch.
So Cleveland looking to take an early lead with Jose Ramirez stepping in.
Ramirez with a base hit right center field.
They're going to wave Manzardo home.
Jastrzemski up with the throw towards second base.
And Manzo scores standing to give the Guardians a 1-0 lead.
RBI number 35 for Jose Ramirez.
Well, you heard it earlier.
We talked about that breaking ball.
Another breaking ball left up in the strike zone.
Jose is way too good of a hitter to not execute your pitch.
You can't not try to do too much.
Just getting the barrel of that to the baseball.
Did a fantastic job right there.
And the runner goes and Bailey's going to get it and throw.
And they got him.
Welcome back.
Patrick Bailey got one of the quickest pop times in all of baseball on a strike.
And William Davis putting down the tag.
Will challenge two outs.
By the way, I think that the Guardians, the Ramirez has 20 steals.
He's going to walk back into the Guardians dugout.
He's going to say, I thought I had that.
Yeah.
Logan Allen looked pretty good his last time out.
Worked with a little extra rest.
We'll see what he can do against this Giants lineup.
On two down and here comes Rafael Devers.
3-2 pitch.
The 3-2 is swung on and missed.
Strike three.
And a quick first inning for Logan Allen.
Sets him down in order.
Lane Thomas leads off the second for the Guardians.
Got him.
94 miles an hour.
He blew it right by.
Lane Thomas first strike out of the game for Justin Verlander.
Now the pitch is swung on and missed.
Change up.
Strikes him out.
First base runner for the Giants as Casey Schmidt steps in.
Swing and a miss.
Elevated the fastball.
And Schmidt could not catch up to it.
Couldn't even spoil it.
Second strikeout for Logan Allen.
Swing and a miss.
Strike three.
Tied him up inside.
Chase this ball that looked like it was about six,
seven inches inside off the plate.
All hands are safe on an infield single by Bailey.
And Elliott Ramos steps in.
Swung on.
Ground ball to short.
Arias to the back for one.
Schneeman the first.
Double play.
Two down.
Runner at third now is Jastrzemski.
But a huge double play turn by the Guardians.
Now Willie Adamas.
He goes to right center.
And Nolan Jones runs it down to retire the side.
So Logan Allen with three scoreless under his belt.
Here's Carlos Santana.
Line to center his first time up.
And a hard hit ground ball to second.
It's booted by Fitzgerald.
And Santana beats it out.
That looked like that might have come up on Fitzgerald there
just at the last second.
Had to kind of play it a little bit deeper route there
into short right center field.
The error means a base runner for the Guardians.
And Thomas lanes it into center field.
A base hit.
Moving up 90 feet is Santana.
And the Guardians now have runners at first and second
with only one away.
That's his first career hit against Burlander.
So Daniel Schneeman will step in.
Swung on.
And there's a high fly ball.
Deep left center field.
This has hit a ton.
And that ball is gone.
A home run.
Daniel Schneeman to the opposite field.
A three run blast.
And Cleveland is now up four nothing.
Another center cut fastball by Burlander.
It was thrown at 94.
Can't overpower hitters right there like he used to.
And Schneeman made him pay.
Down low.
Ball four.
Santana draws the walk.
And the Guardians now have runners on the corners.
And it looks like that's it.
As Bob Melvin makes his way to the mound.
The night is done for Justin Burlander at 83 pitches.
So Bivens comes in.
His job is to get the Giants off the field without giving up a run here.
In there.
Strike three caught on the outside corner.
Fastball.
Got him looking.
Logan Allen working with that four run lead.
Back to it for the Guardians.
Struck him out.
That change up has been really good for Logan Allen.
Bloop into shallow right center.
And it falls.
Base hit.
On a change up.
Bailey dunks it in.
And he is two for two in his first game back from the injured list.
And now here comes Elliot Ramos.
There's a high drive in the deep left center.
A laser beam into the bleachers.
And way up into the bleachers.
For the Giants first two runs of the night.
Man what a smash by Elliot Ramos.
Elliot with his 12th home run of the year.
Logan Allen comes back out for the sixth inning.
With a four to two lead.
Facing Rafael Devers to lead things off.
He has a four two lead here in the bottom of the sixth inning.
He pops Rafael Devers up.
And the shortstop Gabriel Arias reels it in for out number one.
So a pitching change will be made.
Good work again by Logan Allen.
Another solid effort.
He will leave with a lead.
Cade Smith on in relief for a second straight night.
Pitched a scoreless inning last night.
And it's a one out base runner for the Giants.
With the Guardians in front.
Four to two here in the seventh.
Their number nine hitter Patrick Bailey will come to the plate.
Swing and a miss.
Strike three by Bailey.
Looked like the splitter that time.
There's two down in the inning.
Swing and a miss.
Strike three.
They got him with the heat.
Ramos down on strike side.
Retired.
We're headed to the eighth.
New pitcher on for the Guardians.
Bottom of the eighth.
It's Tim Herron the lefty.
Protecting a two run lead.
Four to two Cleveland.
McDonough's first into the game.
And now here is Rafael Devers.
The possible tying run of the game.
He has struck out.
Walked and popped out to short.
It's swung on and lifted high in the air to left.
But not deep.
Coming in is Kwon.
Circling.
Makes the catch.
Retreating to first is Adamas.
Center field.
And Lane Thomas calls off Kwon.
He makes the catch for out number two.
Don't assume your partner's got it.
Absolutely.
Everybody converge.
And that swung on.
Popped him up.
Foul territory on the infield.
First base side.
Manzardo puts it away.
And Herron does the job.
We are headed to the ninth.
Emmanuel Clase on to pitch the ninth with a four to two lead.
The two two.
Swung on.
Lined on a short hop.
Grabbed by Schneeman.
And he'll throw on to first in time for the out.
Nice play by the Guardian second baseman.
Now Dom Smith out of the dugout to pinch it for Tyler Fitzgerald.
Swings at the first pitch.
Left field.
Kwon.
Makes the catch.
Two down.
And the Giants last hope is Mike Yastrzemski.
The grandson of the great Paul Yastrzemski.
What does Dusty Baker say?
Die hard.
He's been red hot.
Letting Clase provide the power.
Called strike three.
And Clase does it again.
So do the Guardians as they defeat the Giants tonight by a final score of four to two.
And go figure Tom Candiotti.
Allen against Verlander.
The pitching matchup and the kid outpitched the veteran.
He certainly did.
He looked outstanding out there.
And he got a little help from his from his buddies coming out of the bullpen and did a
good job.
Each guy that came in it just did just as well as the guy before him.
So it was a nice pitching night for the Guardians.
