Oh, this is good.
Taro corn pie, guys, about a dollar US.
This is a five out of five banger.
Get the Patongkos here in Thailand.
Honestly, this was better than Dunkin' Donuts in America.
Oh my goodness, they got the McShaker fries too.
Burger King Thailand is a lot better than US Burger King.
Welcome to Bangkok Fast Food,
where your favorite American chains get a spicy Thai twist.
From Tom Yum flavored fries,
to jasmine rice with your fried chicken,
we're diving into how brands like KFC, McDonald's,
and Taco Bell adapt to the Southeast Asian taste.
Let's go.
So Burger King, from what I know, they were doing burgers.
However, they have recently stepped
into almost like Thai street food.
Matt, have you been to Bangkok Burger King?
No, this is my first time.
Thanks for taking me.
I always know you as an adventurous eater,
so that's why you went to Burger King.
Yeah, I know this guy.
If it's not on a roadside stall giving you diarrhea,
this guy doesn't like it.
Thai spice chicken with rice, Tom Yum Zing chicken.
What else?
We got salted chicken with sticky rice.
We gotta see what's going down at Burger King Thailand.
All right, guys, they have the cheese lava right here.
We're gonna do dine-in, skip for now.
Oh my goodness, what the hell?
That menu looks way different.
They let you pair up the hot yai chicken
with a cheese lava beef.
All right, guys, round one here at Burger King has arrived.
Matt, what do you think of them serving
more like traditional street food items?
You're a street food guy,
but now the street food has come to Burger King.
I like it.
I mean, I kind of want to see what it tastes like,
if it's kind of nostalgic or it's just its own little brand.
All right, we ordered 1,000 baht worth,
which is about $33 worth of Burger King.
Okay, okay, let's see what the...
Okay, salted chicken, four out of five.
This looks like khao moo yang.
This almost looks like fried pork, but this is chicken.
Man, let me just get some of this rice.
Feels like it's better chicken than the U.S., doesn't it?
This is a khao gai tod right here,
and I think you have the tom yum chicken.
I like this flavoring, man.
I'm doing to like this.
What?
That's good.
The khao gai tod.
Let's go in on it like this.
This is almost like a fried khao moo yang.
I thought you were gonna say...
Oh, this is good.
Katsu.
Oh, ----.
Guys, this might be the best one so far.
My goodness, because it had so much
like garlic shallots on there.
Oh yeah, that's good.
Y'all, this one, five out of five.
Taro corn pie, guys, about a dollar U.S.
That looks good.
Okay.
It's a little odd.
So this is what I heard about Burger King in Thailand.
Seemed like something was missing.
And then I'm a big fan of this here.
One thing I love about Thailand is access to Milo.
It's like the Ovaltine malty chocolate flavor.
Wow.
Guys, listen, I don't know where Burger King was
in the Thailand hierarchy in previous decades,
previous years.
I believe they entered the market in 1994.
I'm telling you right now, so far,
everything's hitting on like 4.5 out of five.
I'm just gonna cut his...
You can...
Oh, okay.
So you can actually get this with pork.
We got it with beef.
He's gonna dip the cheese,
like it's a cheesesteak or something.
Like, I don't know.
I've never seen anything like this before, bro.
So this is a bacon cheeseburger.
I think I ordered a double, but they gave me a single,
but you know, it's whatever.
It's all good.
I don't like it, but I don't hate it.
It wasn't as bad as I thought.
Like, it basically tastes like a very, very subtle.
The only thing I had to eat, I'm eating this.
This is...
You could tell this dry rub,
just based on the last one, it's gonna be good.
That's what I think.
Hot Yai chicken, guys.
For some reason, it's not...
A seasoning's not sticking as much as I thought it would.
Do you like the popcorn chicken version better?
Let me see.
Maybe it's a little dry, this piece.
This is definitely a higher quality
than McDonald's fried chicken,
but there might be one element of addictiveness.
I'm gonna give this a 4.25 out of five, the Hot Yai.
What do you give your Tom Yum?
Maybe a four.
I think it could get...
I think it just got a bad taste.
But maybe I'm just a big Tom Yum guy, man.
Yo, I agree with you.
But if you, let's pretend that you could put this
Thai Burger King in New York City
and there was a Popeyes next to it,
which would you go to?
Well, I think just for the sake of
going to something different,
I would come here and I would get
the Hot Yai chicken on the phone.
Burger King Thailand bridges the gap
between McDonald's and KFC.
Burger King in Thailand is a lot better
than U.S. Burger King.
If you want to go with beef,
I think the West might have an edge up,
but that's my thought.
They might have to change it from Burger King
to Khao Tong King, or Khao Gai.
As you can see, guys, they got the real mango blizzard.
You can opt to get one with just the coconut milk
and then the pandan rice, the mango sticky rice,
but obviously it's colored with pandan.
Or you can get one with real mango on it,
or you can get both of them for 69 baht,
right there, the everything.
We have our sundae here with mango sticky rice
and coconut milk and vanilla ice cream.
They crushed up an ice cream cone at the bottom.
They put real mangoes on it.
When was the last time you got real fruit
at a Dairy Queen?
Yeesh.
Okay.
We might be doing something here, guys.
I'm gonna give this, honestly,
a 4.75 out of five.
You get it?
Was super impressive from Dairy Queen,
specifically the sundae.
I came to get a blizzard.
I left with a sundae, but I'm really happy about it.
This was an absolute mind-blowing experience
because I did not expect much out of Dairy Queen.
Thailand's fast food scene crushed America's
despite it coming from America initially.
Best damn food show review ever did his own take on it,
and I got mine.
What else we got?
I'm gonna add the pork McPorridge right here.
Ah.
All right, guys, for about $5 USD,
we got McChicken Porridge, Pork Porridge Condry,
three Patongkos, which are the Thai version
of Chinese fried donuts,
and then one actual Western chocolate glazed donut.
You will find this at any McDonald's in the Western world.
We have a Patongko.
This is a Chinese donut, but the Thai version,
and I'm not gonna lie, guys,
it might be even better than a Yao Tiao or a Yo Tiao.
Of course, they give you the condensed milk dip.
They had a strawberry one.
They had a chocolate one as well.
This is a five out of five banger.
Get the Patongkos here in Thailand.
No cap doubts, this is fresher than the street.
It tastes better than the ones off the street.
Next up, guys, we've got the Porridge Congee.
In Thailand, they call it Khao Tom.
And look, guys, they just cut up the chicken patty.
They cut up the pork patty from the, you know,
McMuffin, pork McMuffin that they have here.
Obviously, they don't really sell as much pork in the U.S.,
but in Thailand, they love pork.
Put the black pepper in there.
Okay.
Okay, chicken one, honestly, surprised me
because I thought it was gonna be whack
and it wasn't delicious, but it is not bad at all.
By the way, guys, these are only a dollar each,
about a dollar U.S. each, so it's not badly priced at all.
Ultimately, guys, if you wanna know what it is
with the McDonald's, McKhao Tom,
the chicken had way more flavor
and the pork just didn't have enough flavor
relative for pork because they're pork patties here.
That's kind of their vibe.
I'm gonna give this a 4.25 out of five, 3.75 out of five.
McPatongko in the McKhao Tom.
Overall, I'm gonna say that McDonald's Asian item effort
for breakfast here in Thailand was overall a slight win,
but I'm gonna give it a win.
And then of course, here we've got the glazed donut.
Honestly, this was better than Dunkin' Donuts in America.
McDonald's is really good.
I ain't saying that their food is keto,
but I'm just saying they do a certain type of food good.
Goodness, we're at KFC and they had the Buldak wings.
Those are sold out right now,
but they still have the Zab wings,
which is actually way more Thai
instead of just riding the Korean wave,
but we will come back and get the Korean wings at some point.
Fun fact, only China and Malaysia are ahead of Thailand
in terms of QR code payment usage.
Here we guys, guys, we got the shrimp donut.
We've got the Zab wings.
We've got the green curry.
I've got a tuna mayo salad.
Let me just pop the top on this.
I can't believe I ordered this item for you guys.
I would never order this on my own,
but I did it for you guys.
And of course the world famous Don Tat egg tarts.
Hot KFC, the unique items.
Of course, we didn't want to compare chicken
because chicken for the most part
was gonna taste like the chicken,
but here we have popcorn chicken coated in green curry.
Obviously a localized item.
I'm sure this is not for the Farang people
or the white people that live in Bangkok.
It's for the Asians.
Hold up.
4.5 out of five on this.
That green curry popcorn chicken surprised me.
Now we've got the shrimp donut.
I believe this is a take on a Diageo thing.
Okay, honestly, a shrimp donut from KFC,
3.5 out of five.
Better than I thought though.
I thought it was gonna be 2.5 out of five.
Zab Wing, Zab is a spice.
Typically they say Zab Zab, but you know.
Hmm.
Okay.
3.75 out of five.
Tuna mayo salad, guys.
Listen, I would never in a million years
order this if it wasn't for this video.
I'll do it for you guys.
It ain't bad.
We have the famous KFC egg tarts.
These are famous around Asia.
They're famous in China.
Everybody knows the Don Tat, the egg tarts at KFC
are the best.
I'm surprised to even see them in Thailand, to be honest.
And far, they kept the recipe the same, guys.
And I wouldn't be surprised if in the future,
KFC Thailand doesn't do a durian or a jackfruit
or some more localized fruits with the egg tart.
But I'm gonna give this still a 4.5 out of five.
Guys, we're back at Bangkok McDonald's for lunch.
As you can see, they're advertising the fried chicken.
They're advertising the truffle burger,
the pork sumo burger.
And eat in.
Oh my goodness, they got the McShaker fries too.
Like we said, these are more like different flavors
of dishes you've seen before.
Whereas for breakfast, they will never ever have
congee khao tom in America.
Just to recap, we went with the truffle beef burger,
the cheese sticks, the shaker fries,
the truffle cheesy ham pie,
the McFried chicken super value set,
the Kaprao chicken, and of course, the dump cheese.
You're looking at $17 USD worth of Thai McDonald's.
First off, we got the truffle beef burger.
Let's pop the top.
I would say it awfully looks like a Big Mac
without the middle piece.
However, you know, the lettuce does look like
it's not brown like it often is in America.
Obviously, you see the truffle sauce.
Let's get into it.
I'm done.
It actually tastes like truffle Thousand Island dressing.
Got a little ranch vibes in there.
Like blackened ranch.
Four out of five.
Item for lunch number two,
we've got spicy chicken drumstick,
almost resembling more so something you'd see
at Jollibee's, to be honest.
It tastes like Jollibee's too.
All right, that was spicy.
This one's regular.
All right, let's take a look at this.
Spicy chicken, five out of five.
McDonald's McSpicy chicken and regular fried chicken
in Bangkok, five out of five.
Truffle cheese McShaker fries.
It sort of took a flavor from our concept from Japan,
but of course they do theirs with nori
and a lot of seaweed,
made it a little bit more thick for the market.
Boom.
Let's open it up.
Truffle cheese McShaker fries, 3.5 out of five.
I don't know, to be honest guys,
just something about the artificial truffle cheese powder
doesn't do it for me.
Truffle cheese McShaker cheese sticks.
Golly, we're getting gratuitous now.
Okay.
So I don't like cheese sticks,
but honestly this worked better on the cheese sticks
than the fries because I think the fries
were already so good at a baseline,
they could only go down.
Whereas cheese sticks for me are like here
and they went up a little bit.
We got the McCaprow.
Obviously they took the popcorn chicken
and then they, you know, just repurposed it.
A lot of things at McDonald's are repurposed.
I don't want to do this guys,
but I'm going to do it for you guys.
Guys, this is only like 80 baht.
Not a lot.
Plus you got the rice.
3.5 out of five.
Last but not least guys, we've got a ham and cheese pie.
Break it open.
Yeesh.
Almost looks like something,
they got the sizzlers menu from like 1997 going on.
The ball is stroking off.
If my grandma was raised on Dinty Moor,
this would be a five out of five.
As it stands with me, 3.5 out of five.
Overall guys, what do I give McDonald's
Bangkok lunch menu?
I would say that they hit on the major big items,
which is obviously the truffle beef burger
and the spicy fried chicken drumstick.
These were bangers, especially,
but all the side items definitely,
ultimately were pretty mediocre.
Three out of five.
But these, I give them a four.
Taco Bell came to Bangkok in 2019.
Now in 2025, there's about 10 locations.
They do not localize their menu that often.
In fact, they really did not have anything
hyper localized on the menu,
except the fact that they have ground chicken,
which sometimes they use for Kaprao nachos.
By the way, guys, the Kaprao nachos not on the menu,
you know, as of right now,
they are seasonal localized menus.
For the most part, Taco Bell in Bangkok
looks about 90% the same.
Let's try it.
This ground chicken rice burrito.
Wow.
I would say nine out of 10, like American Taco Bell,
maybe 9.5 out of 10 in terms of similarity.
Grilled chicken stuffed burrito.
Oh my goodness.
I did hear something.
Because Thai localized tastes are spicier,
both their hot sauce and their seasonings
are kicked up one notch for the Thai market.
Oftentimes people tone down food.
This is kicked up.
Okay.
The grilled chicken got some more thangs on it.
All right, guys, Taco Bell Bangkok.
So far, I would say,
and based off previous experiences of Taco Bell
that I've eaten off camera,
I would say that it's about 90% the similar
because there's maybe a 10% where the spices
and things are kicked up a notch.
It may be viewed as a higher end chain,
but they do have some items
they completely do not have in the West,
like this Chocodilla,
which is just Nutella inside of a quesadilla wrap.
They would just probably never do this,
but they probably could easily, you know what I mean?
They would just need to stock the Nutella
in the supply chain.
This is like the little elementary school kid in me.
I'm gonna go ahead and give this one a 4.5 out of five,
even though it's literally Taco Bell Nutella
inside of a tortilla.
I'm gonna go ahead and give the chicken burritos
a four out of five.
Like we said, Taco Bell came in at 2019.
Now they got 10 chains in 2025.
Do you guys think that Asia can accept Tex-Mex or not?
Because they don't shift it a lot.
Last but not least, we are here at Pizza Hut Thailand.
Pizza Hut all across Asia,
all across the world really,
is famous for localizing and being very experimental
with wacky flavors catering to a local population.
Matt, what do you know about Pizza Hut Asia?
All I know is in China decades ago,
I don't know if it's still like this,
but it's a really high-end spot for Chinese people to eat.
This is a shrimp tempura chicken ranch
with like, who knows, lava sauce.
It says $2.99 here,
but when you get these two flavors,
this is the Neapolitan style and you get, you know,
the upgraded whatever crazy pizza that is,
it's actually like 600 baht.
What?
Come on, guys, what's up with the advertising?
Listen, guys, I know a lot of people
wanted the volcano lava ones,
but I'm glad that they were not in season
because we actually get to try some pizzas
that I'm anxious to try.
They got a Neapolitan.
And I don't even know what this is.
What is this, what is this?
Neapolitan truffle.
Okay.
All right, all right.
And then we got the seafood appetizer splitter.
I mean, this is honestly something
that would be a big hit with the Asian moms.
It's called the BC Fun Bites Seafood Extreme.
Oh, oh, oh, it breaks off like that.
It's kind of, it's a...
Let me make sure I get my crab stick.
Oh man.
Yeah, this is messy.
They got baby shrimps and they got baby clams
and they have imitation crab meat,
which is obviously, as you guys know, made out of fish.
What are you thinking?
Doesn't taste like seafood.
I'm trying to figure it out.
It's like my taste buds are a little confused.
It does taste a little bit
like a seafood bake at a cha cha tang.
Okay.
You know what I'm talking about?
I give it a three out of five.
Yeah.
Pretty average in my opinion.
This cheese stick part is pretty good.
I'm gonna give this a 4.25 out of five,
but the actual seafood pizza part,
I might give it a 2.5 out of five.
It's really bad.
I agree.
This crust is a little better, rare instance.
Listen guys, this is part of their Neapolitan series.
I don't even think Pizza Hut in America has this.
No, what is this?
It's like...
It's a little, you know, authentico Italiano.
I'm a big truffle fan, so I'm curious about this one.
I like this ----, man.
This is good.
It's good.
This is better than like a Trader Joe's freaking
truffle pizza, which is not bad actually.
Yo, straight up, 4.5 out of five.
You know what?
I think it goes to show you guys,
for about a decade in Asia,
the pizza have looked more similar to this,
the McBites with the seafood in the middle.
And now they're starting to look like this
because I know like Domino's even has
like a BK to BKK campaign.
We haven't gone to Domino's yet.
That's for a later video.
But for Pizza Hut to almost invent
like a hybrid Neapolitan New York style
and then do the truffle and execute it this simplistically
and quite well, kudos to them.
What was your favorite fast food
from an American chain that you've had in Thailand?
I think I really liked the McChicken,
the standard spicy McChicken where you get a la carte
on the McDonald's touchscreen.
It's like, what, 50 baht?
It just, there's nothing crazy about it.
Just chicken done the right way.
Chicken thigh.
Yes.
Obviously in America, everything is chicken breast.
Right.
I'm gonna go ahead and say my favorite things
were the Patongkos,
which are the Chinese donuts at McDonald's,
the hot guy chicken at Burger King.
Honestly, the mango blizzard or the mango Sunday
at Thailand Dairy Queen, don't sleep on it.
And then I'm gonna go with the truffle here at Pizza Hut.
And there's been a really great item
everywhere we went though.
And I have been shocked at the quality
of the American fast food chains in Bangkok.
I think the McDonald's and these fast food chains
just pan Asia.
They mean business.
Anyway, guys, let us know what you think
in the comment section below.
Does Thailand, Bangkok fast food beat America?
Yes, no.
I will say this though.
America's beef was better.
Yeah.
From generally.
And let me know in the comments,
what is your favorite just Asian fast food dishes?
Like, what if it's like a Japan McDonald's, right?
Like, or China?
Like, is there anything that sticks out to you there?
Yeah.
Matt, you got a movie coming out, Forge?
Yeah.
So Forge just premiered at Southwest by Southwest.
Maybe distribution later.
We'll see where it goes.
But yeah, big movie, Kelly Marie Tran,
Bren Su, Andy Ju,
and a bunch of people from Shonda Rhimes shows.
Live from Bangkok, we out.
Peace.
All right, you guys.
That does it for our first video
covering Bangkok's fast food remix.
These are the exact same American brands,
but with a whole new international flavor.
So whether it's green curry on your pizza
or a hot yai fried chicken at Burger King,
Thailand clearly knows how to localize.
Make sure you guys like, subscribe,
and let us know what other fast food countries
in the region we should try next.
