The Fourth of July holiday is next week
and if you plan on joining the millions
traveling this year, especially by
plane, experts say expect the crowds. 22
News reporter Christina Deores joins us
live in studio with how you can make
sure everything goes smoothly. That's
right, Nick. The busy holiday travel
period kicks off next Tuesday. And
here's what you need to know before you
fly.
Fireworks, barbecues, and beaches are
calling, and millions are answering by
heading to the airport for the busiest
travel season yet.
The TSA bracing for a surge of travelers
for the Fourth of July holiday. We
expect to set yet another record in
terms of total travel volume. The rush
is expected to begin Tuesday, July 1st,
and continue through Monday, July 7th.
The TSA projecting 18.5 million
passengers will be screened throughout
that time. Come on. And the biggest
crowds at the airport are expected on
the return home Sunday, July 6, with 2.9
million traveling in a single day. The
TSA says they're working to ensure
airport security checkpoints are fully
staffed and implement new procedures to
speed up the screening process. One,
allowing kids 12 and under to join
parents in TSA pre-check lanes. TSA is
being pretty lenient with folks getting
through security. We have not seen
widespread reports of people not being
allowed on an airplane because they
don't have a real ID. That said, it's
not necessarily worth the risk. The TSA
encourages travelers to get to the
airport early to allow time for parking
or shuttle transportation, airline
check, and going through the screening
process. Make sure to have a Real ID or
passport ready. TSA says nearly 94% of
travelers are already compliant. Pack
smart to get through security more
quickly. and use resources to get
updates like reaching out to TSA for
answers on the go.
TripleA projects a record 61.6 million
people will travel by car this year with
Wednesday July 2nd and Sunday July 6
expected to be the busiest days on the
road. Work for you tonight. Christina
