A project is underway at Northampton High School
that will significantly cut down on carbon emissions.

is working for you with what the project is all about.
Well, Ciara and Christina, a new power plant is under construction
at the school that will utilize renewable energy.
Students and teachers, along with city officials
and a number of local organizations,
held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new geothermal power project
that is being built in the parking lot at Northampton High School.
The project will allow for more efficient heating
and cooling of the school
and will replace the current outdated system.
Geothermal heat pumps are modern HVAC technology.
They use the heat that exists under the ground,
under our feet, that's waiting there for us.
We move that heat into our buildings during
the wintertime to keep those buildings conditioned
and then we can actually dump heat into the ground
in the summertime to keep our buildings cool.
Construction of the project is being done by BrightCore
and when it's completed,
it will cut greenhouse emissions from the school by half.
The geothermal power plant will be under the school parking lot
and is expected to be completed sometime next year.
