Hey guys, John with American Window
Concepts and today we're talking about
best window styles for each room in your
house. Let's talk about that.
So, this is a very openended
question. It doesn't work like that.
It's going to come down to this. Your
style and then also the style of the
house. What year was the house built?
Was it built in the 30s? Does it have a
bunch of single hung and double hung
windows that are 36x 48? Because if
that's the case and you're not changing
any of the window frames, you're keeping
them all the same. Maybe casements, they
look gorgeous. Maybe double hungs like
the house originally had back in the
days. Wood windows back in the 30s and
40s, they were all double hung windows.
If you have houses built in the 70s and
up, you're especially in California,
you're going to have a lot of windows
that are sliders. Tons and tons of
slider windows. I mean, that's just the
way it goes. Decent sized windows, you
know, 6' x 4t and a bunch of slider
windows. So, with all these slider
windows, it opens doors to you. You can
do some pretty crazy things in bedrooms.
You always have to make sure, and I'll
I've made videos on this, and it's very
important. California egress rules. In
bedrooms, if you have a closet in that
room, guess what? You got a bedroom, and
you got to make sure that you have your
5.7 square foot of an egress to get out
or ingress for a fireman to get in. If
you're dealing with this kind of a
window, you're like, "Okay, well, I want
to keep it the same size, but maybe I
want to get crafty." All right. Well,
you can do different things, right? You
can make a two wide where you have a
single hung and a single hung. Granted,
it's not in a bedroom because if it's in
a bedroom, that's not going to work for
you. But in a living room or a kitchen
or a dining room or anything like that
where it's not in a bedroom, you can do
all kinds of cool stuff. You know, you
just ask whoever's coming to your house,
you know, hey, what what would you do
here? Right? We do windows all day every
day. I'm thinking we could do a three
wide. You have a casement, picture
window, then another casement. And
people are like, I never even thought
about that. Casements are a great
option. I think they're probably one of
my favorite windows because of how much
air they actually capture when they're
open and when they're closed and locked,
how much air they don't allow in your
house. Great for beach houses, great for
desert houses, double hungs, single
hungs, XOX windows, XOXX gliders.
There's so many different things that
you can do. It's crazy. Garden window.
Those are always cool. Well, a lot of
times I get a garden window set up
whenever a customer has a sink, has this
little window, you know, whatever the
size is, and they're like, "Man, you
know, um, can is there anything that you
could suggest besides whatever I have
here, a little XO slider? How about we
put a garden window in?" Really, really
neat idea. Endless almost, right? And
so, I want you to do some homework, take
a look, and then ask questions to
whoever comes over as well. What would
be the best for this house? What would
be the best for this style of house?
What would be the best for these window
sizes? Make them think. Make them answer
the questions. It's what we do. We're
happy to do it. All right, guys.
Hopefully this helps. Make it a great
day. Before you click off this video, if
