Hello and welcome to your English vocabulary lesson.
Today's video is all about protecting the environment.
If someone wants to start being environmentally friendly, we can use the phrase
go green. This means to adopt environmentally friendly practices.
For example, the school made a commitment to go green by reducing waste and using renewable energy.
Now you might be unfamiliar on how to go green or how to be environmentally friendly.
A phrase that we can use for when someone is in an unfamiliar or uncomfortable environment
is like a fish out of water.
An example, as someone who has always lived in a city,
I felt like a fish out of water when I volunteered to plant trees in a rural area.
So let's get your environmentally friendly journey started.
We can use the phrase plant a seed.
Now this means to start something that will grow and develop over time.
Teaching children to recycle is a great way to plant a seed for a more sustainable future.
Now you're not expected to make a huge difference straight away.
Progress can be made by taking small steps towards a larger goal.
And we can use the phrase small steps lead to big changes.
For example, by making small changes in our daily habits like using reusable bags and bottles,
we can make a big impact on reducing waste.
Now it's all well and good saying that you're going to be environmentally friendly,
that you're going to go green.
But actions speak louder than words.
This means what a person does is more important than what they say.
If we want to protect the environment, we need to take action by recycling,
reducing waste and using renewable energy.
Actions speak louder than words when it comes to protecting the planet.
