Shopping Spree with a 6 Year Old!
Today we're taking Adeline out for her 6th birthday and she wants to have her own shopping spree. So Target here we come!
We have simplified birthdays.
When you have three in one month, you really have to figure out how to survive.
I'm only four months and I already hate shopping.
This girl is like a pinball in a pinball machine.
So we have three birthdays in December, which is a lot.
And it can get really crazy.
I'm going to share with you guys how we survive birthday season,
which is the month of December.
And what we do to make it manageable and to avoid burnout
and to make it super fun and special for each kid who has a birthday so close together.
But for now, we're off.
She's been waiting patiently.
We're headed out.
We're going to go do whatever Adelyn wants.
All right, we made it.
We're at Target.
We were going to go to lunch, but Adelyn said she would rather just grab a perfect bar at Target
and walk around than sit down for lunch because she wants more shopping time.
I have placed an Instacart order from the dollar store for like balloons and streamers
because John was going to go out last night and get them and he didn't get a chance to.
So the girl just sent me pictures.
The dollar store is like empty shelves everywhere.
So I'm hoping she can scrape together.
I was like, look, I'm out with the birthday girl
and the sisters are going to be decorating with the stuff at home.
So at this point, I'll take what I can get, pull whatever she can together.
So I'm hoping that works out.
All right.
Did you just wave at me?
Come on this way.
What about this?
You can put stuff in it.
And I can also paint it.
If you had jewelry, like a necklace or something,
you could like set it in it when you take it off at night.
I'm saying that I guess one of the gifts I got her at home is a necklace.
And it's super cute.
It has her initials on it.
Oh, it's going to say what about this, but it says it's for a dog.
All right.
We came to the shoe section and found these cool cheetah print shoes.
You want to try them on?
Do you like those?
Do you want to keep looking?
They have some plain brown ones too.
Like this, look.
No.
She also likes these ruby red boots.
I'm just not sure they're super practical.
All right.
And she's got these cool tattoos that her sister gave her on her legs.
Here, turn sideways.
Yeah.
What do you think?
Take a walk down to the ending back and let's see if they're comfy.
They're tied together.
All right.
Come back.
Do you like them?
Do you want to buy them?
I think they're pretty cute.
All my girls love sunglasses.
Do you like those?
Let's see.
Try them on.
Let's see.
They might be a little too big, but we'll.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, look, those will match your boots or these ones.
Oh my goodness.
No, your, yeah, your new boots.
Okay, I'm gonna get you those because those are cute.
I'm pushing a card.
Got her.
I want to do this.
And I got to hold him because he ain't happy.
Today is my sister's birthday.
We are going shopping.
I'm already, I'm only four months and I already hate
shopping.
Could you buy what?
Oh, an ice cream set.
Didn't we have that before?
What happened to it?
Remember?
We used to have one of those.
I wonder what it went.
Wait a minute.
Look under it.
There's tacos.
That's $20.
I mean, we found a pretty sparkly dress, right?
It's very pretty.
She said.
We got some shoes.
This is what I'm working with.
She talks nonstop.
Okay, so what is this?
It's a fish tank.
Can you want this?
Yeah.
You love it?
Yep.
Okay.
So we got a fish tank.
Cute little puppy.
I asked her if she liked this giant Paw Patrol tower and she said, yeah,
but I can't waste my money on it or else we can't go to Michael's.
I'm trying to steer her purchase decisions towards things I know she will use.
Like a bell.
I would love to just be like, yes, get whatever you want for your birthday.
Like whatever you pick out.
But the reality is we try to just keep the things that the kids will love
and use over and over and over.
And I don't want to spend our money on junk that's going to get thrown away.
And I want to teach them that too, to really weigh like, are you going to use this?
Is it worth it?
That's why I keep mentioning, okay, this is how much it costs.
Is this something you want to spend your money on?
Israel has really taken to this toy.
So we're going to grab it, but he's trying to snuggle it.
And it's not so snuggly.
All right.
Ready?
You got your sunglasses on?
Hold on.
Let me take this sticker off.
Okay.
Ready?
Now we got to go.
All right.
Off to Michael's we go.
So much different experience than shopping with Elena.
A little less patience, a little more, I'm like, oh, it's happening.
I feel like I keep like doing this number, like spinning around,
trying to figure out where she is.
Because she keeps in front of me and then she's behind me.
And then she's on that side.
And I'm going to be tired by the time we get home.
Let me see you.
Look at these.
Oh, what a pretty stylish birthday girl.
She's getting compliments everywhere she goes.
I also wore this sweater.
So I bought some like sweaters, my clothing haul video.
You can go back and check it out from like, I don't know, a month and a half ago.
I needed some new clothes that fit me a different size than it used to be.
And it's been like so warm lately.
So I wore one today thinking like, all right, I'm going to get some nice out of this.
I'm regretting it so much.
It's so hot.
I'm literally sweating.
All right.
Just pulled up to Michael's.
We're about to get out.
I'm taking like a mini breather.
Did you eat?
She ate her snacks.
No, I didn't eat all of them.
And also, the lady gave us thorn flowers and it hurt and it thorned me.
Oh, yeah.
We got some flowers from a woman who needed a little help.
And she gave us some roses in exchange.
And so Addy is very excited about them.
And she got pricked by a thorn.
Every rose has its thorn, Adelyn.
Just like every day has its thorn.
We have simplified birthdays.
When you have three in one month, you really have to figure out how to survive.
Because it's like hustle and bustle craziness.
But still make your kids feel special.
You don't want...
Don't be sad.
That's right.
You don't want it to like combine a party every single year where it's just, you know.
And if that's what you got to do, that's fine.
How can we simplify it but still separate and set each day apart for them?
So one way that we've done that is by keeping parties so simple.
We don't do the whole like invite all your friends and your class and all the things.
We just stick to family.
And yeah.
And honestly, it is like a party with as many siblings as they have.
But we make sure we have a cake and we make sure that they have some gifts to open.
So even though we're going shopping,
I have already bought her a few things at home that she will get to open.
This year has been super easy because the girls are like, I just want to go shopping.
So we go out, we spend the day together.
It's really that special quality time.
And just doing something that you don't normally do.
And giving your kid your undivided attention for most of the day.
They say that seven minutes a day,
seven minutes of undivided attention is all that a child needs
to like have their love cup filled.
You guys, seven minutes a day.
So we are spending the whole day together, right Addy?
We are going into Michael's.
I think she's going to find a lot more in here that she likes
because my girls really love arts and crafts.
I can't say that I'm surprised it runs in the family.
But I think she's going to love this store so much.
I don't think she's ever been in here.
You guys might think John got the short end of the stick with me going out
with all the girls on their birthday.
But he does take them on like little daddy-daughter dates.
And it's just like a quick trip to a poppy shop or whatever.
And so this is like me making up that individual time with them,
which I haven't gotten to do since, you know, having a baby is really demanding.
What did you say?
Addy, but I do think I'm cute, but I want to be there.
Oh, so you got to get your glasses on?
All right, girl, girl, put your glasses on.
It's a notebook for drawing.
It's a sketch pad.
There's a charm bracelet kit down there.
You want to see any more paint?
You want to go home and see your family?
Okay.
Okay, Addy.
You're overloaded, aren't you?
Are you overwhelmed right now?
Like, is it a lot going on?
A lot to take in?
All right.
Can you put some on your neck?
And then I'm going to actually put some on your hand.
I want you to take a few deep, deep breaths.
We're just going to calm down.
Like, and just like realize that we have time.
We don't have to hurry, right?
We don't have to hurry.
We can enjoy this.
Ready? Like this.
Take your...
Breathe in your nose.
Here, one more time.
That's good, right?
This girl is like a pinball in a pinball machine.
Okay, can we go?
Can we go now?
I'm like, let's breathe in some calm CBD essential oil and just slow down.
You were waiting for this your whole entire life?
There you go.
You want to see if they have any other ones?
Or are you good with that one?
You good with that one?
Did you say something?
He's looking at it real close.
What do you think?
What did you do with the gum?
I shared it with my sister.
Addy wanted to get one for all of her sisters.
It's their favorite, right?
Israel, are you over it?
Say, I'm over it.
Done shopping for ever.
So, I was going to like record.
All right, we are checking out.
This was fun.
I've learned for the last like 20 minutes, not even 15, 20 minutes.
I kept saying, I want to go home now.
Consensus is she doesn't like shopping as much as she thought she would.
That's because my belly hurts and I really want to see my family.
Because she really wants to see her family, she said,
which is the sweetest thing ever.
I'm not complaining.
But I realized when I went to grab the camera that I couldn't find it.
It wasn't in the car.
It was in my pocket.
It wasn't in my bag.
Adeline didn't have it.
It wasn't in the car seat.
And panic ensued.
So, we had to walk back through the store, retrace our steps and find it.
Which I did, clearly.
Thank you, y'all, for that blessing.
Now, we're headed home because she's done.
And I'm done.
And Israel's done.
And he's gonna cry any minute.
So, I'm gonna get going.
See you, guys.
Tyler's doing some streamers over here.
Okay, so we got some streamers hanging right here.
Nice and pink.
Lainey is hanging out these little thingies.
Pom poms, I don't know what they're called.
And then we got some balloons.
They're hanging decorations.
Oh, they're hanging decorations.
Okay.
We're gonna try to do one of the little balloon arch things.
Can't find the string.
And I don't know if I'll be successful doing it anyways.
And Jude is hanging up streamers in here.
All right, we're ready.
We're waiting for them.
Oh, man, it's gonna be...
Okay, shh.
Okay, I'll come.
I'm coming.
Oh, no.
Someone's at the door.
Okay, we made it home.
A couple more gifts.
I'm realizing this was a bad idea because I think she probably got too much stuff.
None of it was expensive.
Like, by any means.
We had coupons for stuff.
None of it was like...
It doesn't add up to, like, that much cost price.
But just a lot of stuff.
Whoops.
Anyway, thank you.
First order of business.
The change out of this sweater into a shirt because I am so hot.
And then Addy is really excited to show her sisters all the things she got.
So we're gonna go in the dining room and do that.
Start dinner.
Um, okay.
I bought this.
I just got it from Amazon.
I wanted to show you guys this teether.
So it goes over the wrist and they hold on to it.
One, he chews on everything already.
But this way, if he, like, drops it or tries to throw it, it's not going anywhere.
It just stays, like, hanging out on his hand.
And you love it.
I just gave it to him and he's, like, going to town.
It tastes better than daddy hands.
So cute.
All right, Addy.
Are you excited?
Okay, we'll wait for daddy and then we'll show the bounty.
Addy, did you have a good birthday?
All right.
Oh, dear.
How old are you now?
Six.
Six years old.
And my doggie's six and brownie's six.
Oh, very good.
Well, we're gonna have our Shabbat dinner and call it an evening.
Wait.
We love you guys.
We'll see y'all later.
Hope you'll have a great day, evening, whenever you're watching this morning.
I don't know.
And just enjoy your day.
Love you guys.
Bye.
Hey, thanks so much for watching.
