RUNNING FROM WASPS AND MAKING OUR FAVORITE GLUTEN FREE MEAL!
Today we're going shopping MASKLESS and prepping to make our favorite gluten free meal! Then Tyler informs us that there's a wasp nest on our playset that we need to destroy.
Ziti Recipe: https://cookieandkate.com/baked-ziti-recipe-with-roasted-vegetables/
Either your yellow jacket or a wasp made a mess on the playset.
No, where?
Come follow me.
Y'all get away.
You don't eat honey, right?
I don't want to get stung.
Get away!
Run!
What's up guys?
Heading out the door.
We got preschool day, last week of preschool, and the kids are home for the summer.
They're excited.
This is Adelyn's last year of preschool, so she's going to be homeschooled next year.
So now we got to get them out the door so I can get them to school.
Hi, Dad!
Oh my gosh, is that what that noise is?
I was hearing a noise.
I was like, what is that annoying noise?
I'm trying to show her how, but...
Oh, you're doing a great job, Ev.
Keep up the good work.
All right, I dropped the girls off at preschool.
I have Tyler and Maren with me.
We're going to go into the store.
A cool, awesome update is the mask mandate for North Carolina has been done away with
for all people, so that's exciting.
That happened on like Friday or something of last week, and so...
Wait, so nobody has to wear masks?
Nobody has to wear masks anymore.
Isn't that great?
Yeah!
So now we can go into the store and don't have to worry about it.
Ready to go?
You ready to go, Ty?
We're going to get some salad.
Have some salad for dinner tonight.
What do you think about that, Ty?
We'll grab some avocados.
Look at that, people.
Who knew that they had Chick-fil-A?
Chick-fil-A sauce.
How are the stores?
They have all kinds of stuff these days.
Canyon Bakehouse.
Gluten-free bread.
This is a really good gluten-free bread if you are not, um...
If you're looking for one.
Guys, this Jenny's ice cream is literally the best.
It's super expensive, but it's grass, grazed milk, and is it organic?
I thought it was organic.
Maybe not.
But it is super good.
And this gooey butter cake one right here, gooey butter cake, is gluten-free and so amazing.
I'm not going to buy any today because it is so expensive, but it's on sale.
But still, I don't need it, too.
I'm trying to watch my figure, okay?
I'm about to make a yummy vegetable baked ziti that I have made and we all love.
I'm looking for a gluten-free pasta that doesn't have quinoa, which we really like this, but it's got quinoa in it.
This one doesn't.
But, um...
Let's see.
This might be what we want right here.
Jovial.
Yeah, so this would be a good one right here.
It's just cassava.
And it's really good.
So I might grab this one.
Alright.
We did it.
What?
Tyler was a huge help.
She was over here grabbing groceries, helping us scan them.
Amazing.
Actually, I was just giving up to her.
You were what?
I was just giving up to her.
Yeah, she did a great job of it.
That was a good trip.
I was honestly just going to get some milk because I didn't have any for my coffee this morning.
But then I was like, we need some dinner stuff.
We just needed some things.
And I actually got like three dinners out of that.
We already had pizza, so I guess I got some salad for like a pizza night.
And then some taco shells for taco night.
Which we can do that tomorrow.
Taco Tuesday.
And then I got the stuff I need for the baked ziti pasta.
So that'll be good.
So at least that's a few meals.
And we have some other stuff here that I think we can get through the week with.
So, happy about that.
I did notice there's still a few gas stations that didn't have gas.
So, I don't know if you were affected by it.
We had a gas shortage because of the hack this, you know, I guess a week or so ago.
Hold on.
Don't do that.
There's still some outages.
There's still some stations that have been affected by it.
It's just so crazy.
Like, it's the whole toilet paper thing all over again.
Everybody freaks out.
Like, we would have had plenty of gas.
We probably would have been fine.
And had, like, limited to no shortages.
But you got people.
I don't know if you've seen people with all their gas cans.
I saw, like, people's trucks and trunks full of gas cans getting gas.
There's people getting gas in grocery bags.
A lady, I saw a video, she got it in a grocery bag and then a hole popped in it.
So she had to get another grocery bag and double bag that thing.
People put them in trash bags, put them in plastic bins.
It was stupid.
It was crazy.
But, like, if you don't overreact to something like that, then it's going to be okay.
So it's the same thing with, like, everything that's been going on.
It's just, like, people.
Stop being so fearful.
Stop being so scared.
It's going to be okay.
If you just chill out, take a moment to breathe, gather your thoughts, let the fear go away.
Can you go pee?
Okay, let's go.
Then, like, we can all do this together.
But immediately everything becomes, you know, every man for themselves.
It's just crazy.
We're going to make a yummy roasted vegetable baked ziti.
It's literally the best.
It doesn't have any meat in it.
You could probably put meat in it.
I mean, you could put meat in anything.
This one's just a vegetarian one because our kids are vegetarian.
But I love it.
It's so good.
It's so delicious.
I'm going to make it two ways, though, because I do dairy.
Well, I might do a little bit of dairy.
They don't do dairy.
But I like the real cheese in it.
I'm just going to, like, split it in half.
Do a vegan half and a vegetarian half.
What we got here is we need to cut up some cauliflower and some red peppers and some onions.
Before we do anything, we got the oven preheating.
It's actually already preheated, but for 425.
And we got a pot of water boiling for the pasta.
We just cut our cauliflower and red peppers.
And we're going to transfer that to this pan.
My suggestion is always clean up as you go.
It makes it so much easier when you're done.
You can just trash this bowl as you go out.
You can just enjoy your meal.
You don't have to worry about a super messy kitchen.
Just clean up as you go.
It's way easier.
Maren just had a Popsicle.
And a Popsicle, when she's under there, she said,
It's nothing.
Trust me.
Maren.
I'm not here.
Excuse me.
Stop it.
I'll eat that.
Who said you could have that?
No, I'll eat that.
I'll eat that.
What?
No more.
What?
No more.
What does that mean?
You need one?
She said, I need one.
You don't need one.
Can I have it, please?
Can I take a bite, Maren?
Well, at least you share it.
We're going to drizzle olive oil on this.
And then, whoops.
That might be a little much.
Let's get a little more over here.
We're going to put some salt.
Sprinkle some salt.
I like the really salty things.
So they're nice and really tasty when they're ready.
When they're done.
Whoops.
Getting some salt into the fire there.
And then we're going to take our hands.
And we're going to work the oil and salt into this.
All right.
We got our two mixtures.
Real cheese.
Fake cheese.
And we're ready to assemble this.
Vegetables are almost done.
I'm going to go ahead and start assembling this.
So this, put a little marinara in the base.
Then we're going to do half of our pasta mixture.
So I'm just going to split it in half and do half vegan, half vegetarian.
So I forgot I'm supposed to have the cauliflower separated.
It doesn't matter.
It's all going to taste the same.
We're going to do a layer of cauliflower on top of the pasta.
Okay, this is hilarious how massive this is.
It's a lot of food.
We won't eat it all.
I always like to make extra because I love having it for leftovers.
This is also the kind of meal that I'll just keep eating because it's that good.
So definitely try this recipe.
I promise you will not regret it.
Now while that's baking, we're cleaning up.
So we've already kept it pretty clean.
But we put our pans, our pots in the sink.
And rinsed them out so they're not getting stuck on pasta sauce.
Whoops.
Well, that's fine.
Just knocked that out.
Either our yellow jacket or a wasp made a nest on the playset.
No, where?
Come follow me.
He's at the nest.
We're close to it.
So we have to go in a spot where he can't see us.
Alright.
Come over here, Daddy.
He's following us.
You have to get it on your knees and then he'll see it.
Where is it?
Oh, I see.
See him flying, see him flying.
Yeah, where's the nest?
Over here.
Come over, see it?
Look down, down, down.
See it?
Oh yeah, we're going to knock that out.
He's still over there, Daddy.
Well, let's get him away.
Y'all get away.
I don't want to get stung.
He's gone, he's gone.
Get down, hurry.
There might be some in there though.
Alright, there's not.
Now get away.
You don't want him to see you.
He'll come after you.
Get away!
Run, run, run!
Mary, run!
Get away!
So, see, we're cleaning up in here.
It's looking pretty decent.
We've got to wipe down this.
Put this stuff away.
And we're good to go.
Nice and toasty.
Oh, yeah!
Alright, Laney, how is it?
Really good.
Alright, let's see how this tastes.
It just opened up.
That's so cool, dude.
Need more?
Just a little bit.
Alright.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this episode of Chef John's Kitchen.
I'll put the link in the description, the recipe, if you want it.
Most of the kids did.
This was Ev's plate.
She had a huge plate too.
That's Maren's.
That was one of the kids.
Another kid.
And that was Addy.
She said it hurt her stomach, but I don't know.
Anyway, so they all ate it.
I had two servings.
Daniel had two servings.
It's a meal the whole family will enjoy, I promise you.
So, love you guys.
We'll talk to you later.
Bye-bye!
