MAKING A TRIP TO THE DENTIST
Elena woke up with pain in her tooth. So we left quarantine and made a trip to the dentist today. After the dentist looked at it, he hopes he can save her tooth.
This is how we're keeping our kids occupied. Tyler you are stuck in jail.
Alright y'all, we're in the car. We are headed out.
Elena has an emergency.
But we'll just not hurt.
You nervous for him? I'm scared she's gonna be scared or I'm scared it's gonna hurt her.
We'll help you feel calm.
What's up fam? How's it going today?
We hope you guys are doing well. Hope you're staying safe and healthy.
And if you're at home, stuck at home, hope you're staying occupied and keeping your kids occupied too.
Someone help me. I'm stuck in jail.
This is how we're keeping our kids occupied.
Tyler you are stuck in jail for 30 days.
Aw man.
Okay, we're making omelettes this morning.
I don't really know how to flip them. I think I made this one too big.
Let's see. Oh, here we go. We can do it now.
I want some more nana.
Okay, perfect. Now let's add some cheese.
We're doing omelettes with dia cheese.
This is new. We haven't really tried this with omelette.
So I'm hoping you like it. I think you will.
Someone please help me break out of jail.
Sorry dude, you got yourself into jail.
And you gotta get yourself out of jail.
And then there's Mooseky over there.
Hi Moose.
Guys, Maren has been so cute.
She's been saying stop.
Even though I know I'm not gonna like that when she gets older.
But I'll be doing something. She's like stop.
Let's see if she'll say it.
Hey Mary.
What is that?
There she goes.
Stop.
It's so funny. She's cute.
She's getting big guys. They grow up so fast.
They start saying one word.
And like a ton more come following right after.
Isn't that true though?
Your kids say one word, then another word.
And it's just like more and more and more.
And before you know it, they're like talking up a storm.
It's crazy.
Do you like Tyler's hair?
I did it.
I pulled it out and then Mama did it again.
What?
It looked way better when I did it.
Their teachers have an app.
And so every day
their teachers are recording a video
for them. And then the kids get to
upload their own little response video.
And then you can see everyone's video.
So she can see all her classmates' videos.
A little message from her teacher.
Okay, can I do all the videos?
Are they not sending stuff home now this week?
Guys, my favorite thing to do
on a rainy day
is make
crafts and
other things.
But look at that picture of Tyler.
She took her selfie.
How cute.
What would you say differently?
I'm so stressed
out.
It's okay.
Look at this kid.
Trying to get some water.
You want some water?
You want water too?
Don't they start sending school home this week or something?
Or is that what it is?
I don't know because I haven't read
any of the emails from the teachers.
Alright, well we'll find that out here soon.
Honestly, we're still
in survival mode.
We have six kids that are all home now all the time.
We're still living in boxes because
we were going to unpack while the kids were at school.
That's not happening.
Our girls are already way ahead
of where they should be.
I'm not super worried about them falling behind.
They're young
and they will bounce back and absorb.
They read books
and they're constantly learning through
doing anyway.
I'm just not fretting over it.
Nobody's doing the normal right now.
True.
I'm showing them the pictures
their teachers are sending.
Kyla had butterflies
hatching in her class
and then Alayna had baby chicks hatching in her class
and Jude
A bedtime story.
It's so crazy what we can do now
in a situation like this
with the technology that we have.
Even five, ten years ago
we never would have done it.
It's really cool to see
how people are adapting to this whole thing.
He likes my shirt.
Got it on my birthday.
My favorite shirt ever.
Happy birthday.
Go ask your dad.
That's the truth for everybody.
Go ask your mom.
We're in the car.
We are headed out.
Alayna has an emergency.
Why did we let you out of the house?
What's going on?
My teeth are hurting.
We had a dentist appointment a while ago.
She has a cavity in one of her back teeth.
With celiac disease
it causes enamel defects.
It's normal for them to
1. Get their teeth late
2. Show them your front teeth.
That one's been missing for four months.
They take forever to come in.
3. Also to have soft enamels
so she's prone to cavities.
Anyway, here we are
at the dentist.
They had to refer us to a pediatric dentist.
Alayna's about to go in
and hopefully get it filled today
so that she doesn't have to be in pain anymore.
They're taking kids under emergency situations
and when your teeth hurt
that certainly
constitutes an emergency.
Are you nervous?
Uh, no.
Uh, yeah.
Is it like the same thing
but they do a little...
Um, it's not quite the same
as like a cleaning and exam.
It'll be a little different.
You're brave. You got this.
Is that where you go in? I think we have to go around this way.
But there's pollen on that.
Oh yeah, don't touch it.
Here, you wanna hold my hand?
And there's also pollen on the stairs.
Which way do we go?
I think this way.
Um, Alayna, how cool is this room?
Look, you guys.
It's very cool.
Storm, Spidey, Wonder Woman
Captain America, Batgirl
Superman
And Superman's holding toothpaste.
Superman is holding toothpaste.
Yeah, he is.
It's not Thieves toothpaste though, right?
No.
It's not. Kidsense?
No.
And then in there, there's um
The Lion King. Oh, and Iron Man.
You're the only one in here, huh?
Are you ready?
Are you a little nervous?
Um... No?
Good. High five.
You're awesome.
I don't even know what they're
gonna do though.
I'm not gonna look in your mouth first.
Alright, Alayna, what's the diagnosis?
What are they gonna do?
They're gonna spell my name wrong.
Okay, well, they didn't do that, but
Do you know what's gonna happen?
No.
No? You want me to tell you?
Yeah. Okay, so it's a little different
because of all the quarantine stuff.
They're only taking emergencies.
I saw her because she is in pain.
A couple options. She has a cavity
that's pretty bad to the nerve.
They're gonna go in, they're gonna try
to clean it out and put a crown on
and keep the tooth. If he gets in there and the nerves
are too damaged, then they'll have to pull the tooth
and then possibly come back
for a spacer. We'll cross that bridge
later. They're really only doing the
imminent needed stuff.
And I have laughing gas. Laughing gas?
You want laughing gas?
I want it to be all numb.
Oh, the laughing gas
won't numb it. That's it. They'll put some gel
and then they'll give you a little shot
of numbing stuff and that'll make it numb.
But will the shot hurt?
It's like a pinch.
It's a little uncomfortable, but it's like a pinch.
But can I play a game anymore?
Yes, maybe.
I don't know if you'll be able to see it.
You'll be like, ahh.
Are you ready? Yeah.
This is the room she's in. It's painted like
Frozen.
Alright, Lena has her
Valor oil. Show them how you breathe it in.
It'll help you feel calm.
Does it smell good? Yeah.
She's also watching cartoons.
Laney, let me see your face.
Can you feel it?
She did great.
Yeah, they saved your tooth.
We got to keep it.
Now she's going to pick out a prize.
Oh, you're going to adopt a puppy?
That's so cool.
Let's see, which one did you get?
What'd you get?
Oh, it's cute, huh?
She did so good. So brave, right?
It's hard to tell.
Yeah.
I want to show Parker and Judy
when I get home.
You will. They're going to love it.
I think it'll be hard to talk for probably another hour or so.
I'm going to try one of my favorite water.
Oh, it's got blood on it.
Let me see. Let's look in there. Say ahh.
Ahh.
Oh, she's got a silver cap on her tooth.
But we saved the tooth. That's awesome, right?
Yeah.
How'd you do? Was it scary?
It was fun.
It was fun? Yeah.
Did it hurt? No.
Give me a big smile.
It's still numb.
You want to see?
I can't.
You can't smile.
It's so cute.
Look how clean our van is still.
It's a miracle.
Okay, y'all. We are about to head home.
But we made a little detour.
Pit stop.
Because even amidst this time
and, you know, the kind of crisis
mode that the world is in
it is so important to support
small businesses because
that's what's going to keep them going.
So anything you can do to help keep
those small local businesses
operating through the next couple months.
So, of course, we needed to
swing by my favorite small business
in the area, The Ugly Mug, Bean & Brew.
It is in Garner, North Carolina.
And let me just tell you,
they have the best coffee, hands down, of anywhere.
Elena got a frozen chai
with soy milk.
Do you love it?
She says yeah. She's back there.
And then I got something for John
called a Dancing Leprechaun.
So hopefully he likes that.
It's like white chocolate, Irish cream, and cinnamon.
He said something cinnamon-y.
So I think he'll love it.
And then I grabbed my Iced Caramel Macchiato.
It is my fave. It's so good from here.
It has the best vanilla in it.
And then I also ordered myself some gluten
a grilled cheese.
It's called a Grown Up Grilled Cheese.
And let me just tell you, I was a little bit nervous,
but I asked her. She said it was amazing.
I was like, I'm having trouble comprehending
the flavors in that. And she said,
if you like apple butter, then order it.
Because it is like two different kinds of cheese
and in the middle of them is apple butter.
And let me just say,
it's the bomb.
It's weird, but it's the bomb.
Okay, now we're gonna head home.
John's making dinner for the girls.
And we gotta get there so Elena can have some.
Are you still numb?
Yeah, she said yeah.
Okay, see you guys in a little bit.
Eleni Beyni made it home from the dentist.
Look at that smile, everybody.
She's trying to.
Grilled cheese
and tomato soup for dinner.
What, what?
Gonna be delish.
What, what?
Check out his hair. Quarantine hair, don't care.
She's like, what, what?
You like grilled cheese, Moose?
What?
How'd it go, Eleni?
Good. Were you brave?
So brave. Were you strong?
Yeah, I didn't cry. I'm proud of you.
She didn't have laughing gas or anything.
What does it do is what I'm trying to say.
It just makes you
kind of not care about what's happening.
Because they had to take a big needle
and put it in her mouth.
And that didn't hurt?
She didn't flinch.
Man, you're so strong, brave.
You're so brave.
She said it only hurt
when he was getting rid
of the cavity.
Oh, did you feel it? You should have told him
you felt it.
No, I did that before because I didn't ever like the same thing.
And so I had a feeling
that literally I could feel like, not the
whole thing, but I could feel like the nerve like,
just like little tingling here
and there and it was very uncomfortable.
Tyler will let them know, right Tyler?
Look! It's a vehicle!
She's me.
Is it good?
Do you want to know what's in it?
I like it. It's good. It's drunken leprechaun.
It's got white chocolate,
Irish cream, and cinnamon.
That's a good combo right there.
Yeah.
It's like a drunken leprechaun. That's not going to have cinnamon in it.
But it does have cinnamon in it and I can taste it.
Elena got a frozen chai with
soy milk.
Are you kidding me?
She tried to get me to get her a brownie, a gluten-free brownie,
and I was like, girl, you just had a cat put on your tooth.
Look how cute this baby is.
Mary, let me see your teeth.
Cheese!
You're eating cheese.
They're eating grilled cheese. Is it good?
Yes?
How's it now?
Let me see. Let's see it. Say ah.
Look. Oh, I can't see it.
Look at this cutie.
Look at this face.
Oh, she's got a silver tooth. She looks like Marv.
Who's that?
From Home Alone.
The black guy?
Yeah. The kidnapper?
Yeah.
Did you survive?
I did. I made a TikTok.
And dinner.
He's obsessed with TikTok, you guys.
I can't see it.
Flexing that hair is what you're doing.
Flexing that hair.
We love y'all. It's been real.
Thanks for coming with me to the dentist.
It's kind of hard, like, you never know,
seeing your kid in that position.
You're nervous for them. I'm scared she's going to be scared.
Or I'm scared it's going to hurt her.
She did so great. I'm so proud of her.
Anyway, we've got so many dentist appointments
coming up. We've got to get these kids' teeth in check.
Get them all taken care of.
But, obviously, have to wait until after
the 30-day quarantine to shut down all the things.
You going to say bye?
Say bye!
Say goodnight!
We love you!
