Now honestly if the dealership didn't make it right, this would have put me in a crippling financial situation because of the amount of issues this mclaren has, from engine and transmission, too cameras and audio. Not to mention cosmetic and hvac haha. Its no joke that you should view a supercar before buying it sight unseen, because most dealerships won't take care of you the way this one did for me, and that is why I am truly grateful and still staying optimistic about getting these repairs done. Mclaren themselves if they sold you a supercar as is you will receive it as is period. So please do your homework and fly out to see a supercar, specially if you are like me and its a big purchase for you.
So it's officially time to bring you guys the update on my new McLaren 570S.
So for those of you guys who missed the last video, which I highly recommend you guys check
out because honestly one of the best videos that I honestly put out this entire year.
And that's because I took delivery of my dream car, a McLaren 570S and Ventura Orange.
I got all my boys to come over, all my day ones, and a few other day ones that weren't
able to make it.
But for the most part, most of my day ones were able to make it and we had such a good
time getting their reactions, driving the car, all that good stuff on the first day
of delivery.
We purchased this car sight unseen.
So even for myself at this scene of the video, I knew little to nothing about this car.
I just took delivery and I wanted to experience this with all of my homies.
And honestly, it was such an amazing experience.
We took it on a little bit of a drive, we got to chat it up, all the good stuff of taking
a delivery of your car on the first day.
But unfortunately, also came some really bad news.
On the first day of ownership, in less than 12 hours of ownership, we ran into some of
the biggest issues that are every McLaren owner's nightmare.
And that's what I'm kind of getting into today's video.
Because today's video, honestly guys, might make you steer away from purchasing a McLaren
because the amount of issues that we have with this car in less than 12 hours could
definitely give some people a heart attack.
It's actually insane.
So guys, I think I finally have an update on my new purchase, which is this 2017 McLaren
570S and how I thought originally that I got completely scammed.
And I say thought because there are some silver lining towards the end of this video, so stay
tuned.
So for those of you guys who have not seen the last video, which was one of the best
days of my life, taking delivery of one of my dream cars, which is this 2017 Ventura
Orange McLaren 570S.
Guys, this thing looks absolutely insane.
And taking delivery of this car, guys, is one of, honestly, the best days of my life.
It was such a sick experience.
I wish it was a little better if all the boys were here.
The timing could have been a little bit better, but end of the day, guys, still, it got delivered
and this color did not disappoint.
Absolutely stunning.
So you guys saw towards the end of the reveal video of this McLaren 570S, I started running
into a lot of little headaches.
The first thing that kind of spooked me was a check engine light after literally 12 hours
of ownership, a check engine light popped up after a sequence of misfires, which was
kind of like there, but I didn't know if it was just kind of normal for a car like this
because it's a high performance car.
I've never had a car that came stock with 570 horsepower, so I didn't really know if
this is like a high performance car in a sense of like there is going to be some kind of
misfires because I've heard of that online, but obviously a check engine light isn't normal.
And then not to mention, I'm going to throw up a video right over here.
And shortly after being accompanied by a beautiful check engine light, we were also accompanied
by a transmission fault when I went to actually go pick up my mom and my dad in the McLaren
570S, which was not a great first experience.
Honestly, everything on this car so far has not been a great first experience.
But again, there's a silver lining towards the end of this video.
I'm going to throw up a video right over here or if anything, honestly, on the entire screen
right now of basically what happened when I pretty much just started taking it down
the block right over here.
The next fall, actually it wasn't the next following day, two days later, I was kind
of scared to drive it the next day.
I did a bunch of research to make sure whether or not I should be driving this car because
obviously an engine on one of these things, like $40,000 used, and I would know because
I'm in the auto parts business and that's not something I want to replace plus labor.
So yeah, $40,000 for an engine transmission is actually not that bad on these cars, like
seven grand.
I'm assuming that's because they're more bulletproof.
I did do a lot of research on the transmission fault and they're saying as long as it's running
and driving fine, theoretically you can drive it.
But again, take that with a grain of salt.
That's at your own risk.
You have no idea if there could be something minor wrong with it or majorly wrong with
it.
It's throwing a transmission fault, which means you should probably get it diagnosed.
So for those of you guys who don't know, McLaren is not like many other supercars.
Oh dear.
McLaren is one of the few companies that it's almost impossible to get it diagnosed.
So for those of you guys who don't know, when you have a code reader, you can plug it into
any other car, like a BMW, for example, or a Honda or whatever.
And most code readers are able to diagnose the issues with it, give you resolutions on
how to fix it, and even sometimes even part numbers of what parts need to be replaced
on the cars.
Some of the best scan tools out there, like Auto, I believe I'm pronouncing that right,
or like Launch, has been able to diagnose almost any fault I've had on my Audi R8, my
i8, the Porsche, and a lot of other vehicles that I've owned in the past.
But for some reason, I have not been able to get into the computers of this McLaren.
And I was starting to think that there was something actually wrong with this car even
more to where I couldn't get it diagnosed.
Little did I know, after speaking to a couple of my friends that have owned McLarens and
are also certified to work on McLarens, they told me that McLaren is very secretive about
their technology and their interface, I guess, in a sense, to where they don't allow any
tools to be able to get into the car unless it's a McLaren-specific tool.
And they just launched a new update, it's like version two or something like that, to
where nobody really has their hands on it to spend $30,000 to just be able to get into
this car, program things, and read things and faults on this kind of car.
So as you guys can assume, when getting your first supercar and accompanied by a check
engine light and a transmission light and not being able to diagnose it can definitely
freak you out.
And I was honestly not knowing what to do with this car.
And that was honestly one of the reasons why I decided to buy a clean title was to hopefully
avoid and mitigate any issues on buying a McLaren because I knew I wanted a McLaren.
If I wanted an Audi R8 or if I wanted a Lamborghini, I would rather just buy that from auction
because they don't really have much issues and a lot easier to diagnose.
But I say if you're trying to get a McLaren or a Ferrari, they're a little more complicated
to diagnose.
They have a lot more electrical issues, especially McLarens.
And I figured if I'm going to go ahead and get one of those two cars, I want to make
sure it's a clean title so if there is an issue, I can 100% rule out accident damage
if that makes sense.
It's not because of wiring or anything like that or my kind of repair.
It's literally from the factory.
So without telling you guys exactly just yet what my plans are to get this thing back on
the road, let me go ahead and show you guys a few of the issues that came with this car
when I first got it.
Unfortunately, the backup camera that's on this car unfortunately also does not work.
I bought this car particularly because it had the Bowers and Wilkins audio.
I love it.
It has like the little microphone thing on the top there.
So as you guys can assume, I was dying to hear the audio on this car as soon as I got
it.
But unfortunately, it would connect to my phone, but it will not play any sorts of audio.
So the first thing I did, honestly, guys, was ordering a McLaren trickle charger because
a lot of people told me online that a lot of the issues they can have with McLaren has
to do with the battery.
So I ordered a trickle charger to make sure this thing is fully charged up before messing
with anything just to ensure that it's not a battery related issue.
I guess it's kind of the first thing anyone should do when they have McLaren faults is
just make sure your battery is fully charged or your battery is good.
I actually got some documents from the previous owner on this car.
Shout out to him.
He's actually another social media influencer.
So I found his page by simply just putting the VIN number on Google and I reached out
to him.
He was super cool dude.
He told me all the maintenance he did with this car and honestly how unfortunate his
ownership was with this car.
And long story short, he got the battery replaced at McLaren for $6,000.
It is a lithium battery that you can only get from McLaren and to program it to this
car as well was a hefty amount plus labor and everything like that.
So $6,000 just recently replaced about eight months ago on this car.
And another thing on this car, which was kind of crazy, the oil pump failed, which is kind
of crazy on a newer car with not crazy mileage.
The oil pump already failed on this car, which costed him another $6,000 at the dealership
to replace.
That kind of makes a little more sense than a battery.
I mean, $6,000 for an oil pump doesn't sound terrible, especially for a car like this,
but a battery for $6,000 is absolutely insane.
So what exactly am I doing with the car now with all these minor and major issues?
I mean, the last thing you want is a check engine light and a transmission light on a
higher end car.
That's literally the scariest things you can have with this car.
And as you guys can see, I'm kind of calm and I think it's because I've owned a BMW
in the past and it kind of prepared me to own something like this.
I mean, I've learned with cars that there's always a scary way to look at it and there's
always a calmer way to look at things.
If you take it straight to the dealership, you're going to freak out.
If you're going to figure out ways to do it yourself or at least mitigate some of the
costs, it's not as scary as it seems.
Even though again, like I wasn't expecting any of these issues whatsoever when first
owning the car.
So I reached out to the dealership.
I told them, hey, look, here is the check engine light.
I have a bunch of faults, yada, yada, yada.
They told me they'll get back to me.
So in the meantime, while I was waiting to hear back from the dealership, I reached out
to McLaren and got a quote.
I gave them a call, kind of giving them kind of a little bit of information over the phone
and said, what could possibly be?
And they were telling me that it potentially could be a flywheel because the flywheel on
these cars, for those of you guys who don't know, which I throw up right here, which is
kind of a warning for those of you guys who are buying McLarens, probably check and see
if this has been replaced at one point, is the flywheel.
The flywheel on these dual clutch transmissions are not like a single piece.
They're actually built out of springs, which is kind of stupid.
I don't know why.
I've never seen that in any other car that I've ever dismantled at Natty Auto Parts.
We've dismantled hundreds and hundreds of cars so far, and we have not ran into this
on any BMW or for example, the Audi R8 or the Porsche.
I guess this could be specifically a McLaren thing.
They decided to use springs that eventually gives out during the just normal wear and
tear of the ownership of the vehicle.
Once those springs kind of give out, it could scorch or really damage the transmission or
the engine or technically go through it and cause catastrophic mechanical failure.
Long story short, that obviously scared me, and they were telling me at the mileage my
car was currently at, it could be time to get it replaced, which was kind of crazy because
again, it's not that crazy high mileage.
They were recommending me a flywheel job for a misfire, and they said, might as well since
we're in there, might as well do your spark plugs and ignition coils.
I was like, you know what?
Just send me the quote over.
Breakdown, please.
Labor parts.
I'll look at it, and I'll send it over to the dealership and see what exactly they want
to do.
Mind you guys, this is actually before I found out about the transmission fault.
This was the quote that I got from McLaren, and as you guys can see, $25,000 is a pretty
scary bill to get, especially considering I put most of my money down on the down payment
of this car, so my payments are a lot lower, so I just assumed there'd be no issues with
the vehicle.
So after I got that bill, obviously it spooked me.
I sent it over to the dealership, it spooked them as well, and honestly, I'm not really
trying to finesse the dealership, but I low-key kind of felt finessed in the situation, so
I was like, hey, listen, so I can get another say in this, I can get another quote from
another reputable shop, which is SSR Performance.
They went ahead and sent me some quotes over to see what they can do compared to McLaren,
and they were honestly able to bring that price down, but still, the parts from McLaren,
for example, the coil packs on this car is $4,000, not to mention the five-wheel job,
just the parts alone on that is $5,000, and again, that's not even the spark plugs, just
another $1,000, so just the parts alone right there, we're already looking at $10,000 in
just in parts to theoretically get this car back on the road, and that's just how the
price is gonna be either way, if I went with SSR Performance or McLaren.
Now honestly, guys, when I reached out to the dealership to see what they can exactly
do to help me with this car, because I was low-key freaking out, actually no, high-key,
very high-key freaking out, they pretty much told me that they're actually gonna send this
information to the owner of the dealership, and he'll be reaching back out to me, so a
day goes by, the owner of the shop reaches out to me, was a very cool guy, I kind of
explained to him the situation with the car, I kind of showed him all the proof that I
had with the car, and thankfully, I mean, he was a pretty straight-up guy, he told me,
okay, take it down to SSR, get it diagnosed, we can go from there, I was just kind of telling
him, hey, it could be this, it could be that, no matter what, the minimum repair bill's
gonna be around $7,000 on this car, and it can go up to $25,000, and that's not even
getting into the transmission or any of the other little things that happen with this
car.
Now mind you guys, I honestly didn't think the dealership was gonna do anything, because
most dealerships, they make you sign a paper, which, again, I probably shouldn't have bought
this thing sight unseen, they make you sign a document that says, when you purchase this
vehicle, it is sold to you as is, and most dealerships are gonna run with that, because
at the end of the day, they don't wanna send you any money back after making a sale, because
that's their profit margins.
So the dealership of this car, again, the owner of this car was a super cool guy, I
explained to him the situation, I explained to him that I could potentially get the price
down if I ordered the parts myself, or if they ordered the parts, and I can get the
labor done with them, and some of the other labor done with myself, I don't want them
to spend a crazy amount of money to repair this car at McLaren, because obviously, that's
just gonna completely mess them up, at the same time, I just want my car back on the
road, so we finally actually agreed on a settlement that I actually thought was kind of reasonable,
so shout out to them for that, they did actually wire me the money the next day, very cool
guys, again, the dealership of this car, they really did take care of me, they have over
100 exotics at their dealership, so I can only imagine that they don't really have time
to actually be driving all these cars, they just kinda have them in a showroom, they get
it on trade-in, they drive it around, it actually took me like a good, probably 40, 50 miles
to actually start seeing some of the issues with this car, and over 100 miles before the
transmission fault actually came up, so basically, I'm not putting this on them, I'm just very
happy that they took care of the situation on this car, if they didn't take care of it,
I'd be in a serious financial pickle with this thing, and it wouldn't be driving any
time soon, which would be really stressing me out.
So like I said guys, the dealership did end up making things right, but end of the day,
it's not gonna fix the car fast, so I had to go online and do a bunch of research to
figure out how exactly am I gonna get the parts, and hopefully at cheaper cost, to actually
get the repairs done on my new McLaren 570S.
So I pretty much just went on Google, searched up the part number on the spark plugs and
the ignition coils, I actually couldn't find much on the spark plugs, there was one other
seller on eBay, instead of $1,000, I was able to find OEM ones for $300, so that definitely
cut down our cost by $700 there, which was a huge plus, and then as well as the coil
packs, which are kind of insane, for those of you guys who don't know, coil packs on
a McLaren 570S, it came from a Nissan, so a lot of parts on a McLaren actually come
from different cars, and your man found it on Google for just under $350 for all eight
of them, which is the exact same part number, it's Bosch, apparently it's used on Nissan
Sentras I think, or Nissan Altimas, so yeah, the dealership is, McLaren just has a lot
of pride in their parts, I'm not gonna lie to you guys, even though it's reused, it's
a good brand, it's Bosch, it's literally the stuff they're using for McLarens, and they
use it on Nissan Sentras, so I just went ahead and got the exact same part number from McLaren,
which I got from McLaren, and then found it on Google, ordered eight of them, $350, $300
for spark plugs, instead of $5,000 in parts now, we are down to $550 in parts, and now
the car is ready to be serviced.
So yeah, owning a McLaren can be very scary, but if you do your research, you can honestly
save a lot of money and actually own these cars for kind of affordably, and I say that
because I have figured out everything else other than the transmission.
So as soon as the parts get here, I'm taking this thing down to S-Star Performance because
I honestly really trust their shop, there's no other car I want to take a McLaren to,
just because I know a lot of other shops, the way they work on cars, they don't actually
care to protect the paint, they don't actually care about the interior, every single thing
on this car is worth a lot of money, and I've seen the way that S-Star treats their customers,
and I honestly just want to be a customer of theirs.
I really do enjoy my experience when I go there to get my cars worked on, and they're
just so professional and at the same time, they're a pretty big name company, so when
I get paperwork from them, the next owner can easily look them up and see how credible
they are, which is honestly another big plus when owning a car like that and never thinking
about selling it down the line.
So I think we're going to be able to sort out the misfiring issue, and hopefully while
it's at S-Star Performance, they can diagnose the transmission issue as well, currently
the car is driving perfectly normal, and it just has a transmission fault, so hopefully
it's just something stupid, and then hopefully in today's video, we're actually going to
be sorting out the audio on this car.
I love the way this thing looks, I just really want to hear the audio on this car, I have
not heard it since I got the car, so yeah, fingers crossed it starts working, I hope
it's an amplifier.
I'm literally waiting for the amplifier to get here in the mail, and we're actually going
to be installing that in this car.
So long story short guys, that is the updates with my McLaren, let's go ahead and wait for
the amplifier to get here so we can hopefully start hearing some audio and start fixing
this bad boy.
I mean guys, what a car, this thing looks insane, and I love these doors.
For any of you guys who don't like McLarens, I just feel like you don't love cars, McLaren's
are problematic, but just look at this beauty, even if it doesn't run and it's sitting in
here, it just looks insane.
And what a perfect day to film this video guys, it looks like the amplifier just came
in and we also got a giraffe tools power washer, we're going to be making another video on
that a little bit later, but for now, it looks like the amplifier did come in, let's go ahead
and crack that sucker open, and hopefully again guys, fingers crossed, fix the audio
issue in our McLaren 570S.
You gotta look at the positive side, because you can't make a lot of content on a car that
doesn't really have much issues, unless you're just taking it out, driving it a lot, but
for me, I enjoy the process, so it's all gravy in the Navy.
So guys, let me show you guys exactly what's going on, so you can kind of get a better
understanding of what's going on with the audio system.
Shows the music's playing, shows literally 0.5, 0.6, whatever, turn off the audio, nothing.
Absolutely nothing, no fault codes popping up for it, not sure what's going on with this
thing, so I'm hoping, I'm hoping guys, it is the Bauer and Wilkins amp, so without further
ado, let's just go ahead and get it installed.
Now honestly guys, there isn't a whole lot of videos on YouTube on exactly where you
can find this amplifier, but I believe it's going to be somewhere back here, so let me
go ahead and start pulling some things apart, and I'll tell you guys exactly how I did it.
Alright guys, so after removing all of these plastics and the whole partition on the other
side, I finally got the amp exposed, it's honestly not that bad, it's pretty much just
a bunch of like things you just pry on, I believe 6 bolts total, some 7 mils, some 8
mils, and that's about it, and here's the amp.
So everything looks to be plugged in, I'm not seeing, wires don't seem like there's
any corrosion, so, oh wow, there's actually some ground straps to this thing too.
That's crazy guys.
So, yeah, I don't know, I'll just go ahead and unbolt it and replace it, I mean that's
all I can say.
And just like that guys, out with the old, doesn't look like it has any water damage,
which is a good sign, that means I don't have to worry about that when installing the new
one, but also means I have no idea why this went bad, so, anywho, let's just go ahead
and install the new one.
So just like that guys, we have the amp in the car, let's go ahead and give some power
and hope to God this works.
Please God guys, please God.
Why is there zero power to this car right now?
That's the laundry machine guys, not the audio, come on please.
It's connected to the car, nothing.
Now I'm not going to lie to you guys, I'm feeling honestly really discouraged at this
point that this actually didn't fix the issue, I really wanted to knock out at least one
issue on this car, but this just reassures us that we need a scan.
So guys, I don't think this is from the dealership, but I think this is from my previous ownership
of the car.
I went ahead and actually moved the side panels down here, I don't know if you guys can see
this little area down over here, but this little area basically has two plugs that are
unplugged on both sides, and long story short, plug them both in, now my driver and heater
function on the driver's side work, originally the AC worked, no heater, and then the passenger
side now only blows heat and no AC.
So not sure what's going on there now, that's a whole other issue, I want to plug it in
because obviously everything needs to be plugged in.
So yeah, still don't know the issue, the amplifier did get hot when I was having the car on and
idling, so it looks like it is getting power, not exactly sure what's going on, but at this
point it looks like somebody else had this car and unplugged a bunch of stuff.
So at some point of some ownership, somebody unplugged a bunch of stuff, and that kind
of sucks, just because so far we've found two things unplugged, let's see if we're going
to find anything else.
I'm just going to keep diving in, unplugging a bunch of stuff, and just figuring out if
everything's plugged in.
Not something I want to do on a brand new car, but got to do what you got to do.
So this went from being my dream car to literally a crime scene in the matter of one week of
ownership, because it looks like a lot of the previous owners tried to cut corners during
the ownership of this car because of notorious McLaren cost of ownership.
I'm going to make it my goal, just like any N54, with all the headings that these cars
can possibly have, once they're fully sorted, they are a true car enthusiast car to drive.
And not to mention, this car literally looks out of this world, so it is going to be our
mission here on this channel to get this thing fully sorted and tuned and modified and something
to truly enjoy.
I'll be seeing you guys once we're at SSR getting this thing sorted.
