Hello everyone, Dr. Erin here, your
internist, hormone specialist andologist
in Port Lucy, Florida. Today we are
talking about something that you see
every single day but probably haven't
connected to your blood sugar. Yep, your
skin. That dry patch on your shin, the
weird discoloration on your ankle, that
rash under your belly fold, or the skin
tags popping up on your neck. Those
aren't just cosmetic. Your skin is
talking. Actually, it's yelling. And in
diabetes, especially when things are
left unchecked, those skin changes are
your body's version of blinking red
warning lights. So instead of ignoring
them or just slapping some random cream
on, today I'm going to show you how to
understand these signs and more
importantly how to fix them using smart
natural strategies, herbs, movement,
lifestyle shifts, and some sciencebacked
functional medicine for you. And yes, we
will talk about grounding too because I
have some of you were waiting to yell at
me in the comments if I didn't. Right,
here you go. Why is my skin doing that?
Let's talk about the real root causes.
Here's the deal. Diabetic skin issues
don't come out out of nowhere. They are
not random. What's really going on is
damage, slow, sneaky damage from high
blood sugar over time. Now, high glucose
creates these nasty little things called
advanced glycation end products. We call
them ages for short, okay? And honestly,
that's what they do. They age your skin
from the inside out. They damage your
blood vessels, stiffen your collagen,
slow down repair, and reduce the blood
flow. Now, less blood flow means less
oxygen and nutrients to your skin. That
means slow healing. That means dry skin
and increased risk of infection. At the
same time, poor lymphatic drainage or
mitochondrial burnout or chronic
low-grade inflammation are all cooking
below the surface, setting the stage for
ulcers, swelling, and skin breakdown.
Throw insulin resistance and you have
got a full-blown inflammatory cocktail
brewing in your tissues. So, what are
the actual skin signs should you look
out for? Right. Well, let's break it
down in plain English and no fancy
terms, I promise. Number one, skin tags.
If you are suddenly seeing little fleshy
bumps around your neck, armpits, or
groin, that's not just bad luck. Those
are skin tags, and they often show up in
people with insulin resistance. Your
body is saying, "Hey, I've been dealing
with too much insulin floating around
for too long, buddy." And number two,
brown patches around your ankles. If you
have that, type in the comment below.
Let us know what you do about it. That's
blood and waste pulling in your legs.
Poor venus return. The valves in your
veins are lazy and your blood is
basically hanging out at your ankles.
The gravity, right? This leads to that
reddish brown staining. Sometimes we see
ulcers even develop later if it is
ignored. Number three, shiny dented
patches on your skin. Looks like someone
pressed a coin into your leg and left a
mark. That's called diabetic
thermopathy. little scars that come from
capillary damage. It is harmless on its
own, but it means circulation is not
great. Number four, dry, cracked, and
itchy skin. This is the one of the
earliest signs and the most common
because high blood sugar pulls fluid out
of your tissues and makes your skin dry
like Sahara. It gets worse if you are
dehydrated or not getting enough
omega-3s. Most Americans don't. So, you
want to make sure that your omega-3
index when tested is over 8%. Number
five, velvety neck or armpits that are
dark. This is not dirt, not bed hygiene
either. It's called a contour snare
cancer and is classic insulin resistance
marker. If it shows up, your pancreas is
probably working overtime and losing the
battle. And number six, fungal rashes in
your skin folds. Warm, moist, sugar-
richch environments like under the
breast, belly, groin, or party zones for
candida and other fungi. They love
diabetic skin. add poor immunity to it
and poor air flow. Boom. It's a rash
city. Number seven, ulcers that won't
heal. This one is serious. Okay? If you
got a sore, especially on your foot or
ankle, and it is just not healing,
that's a circulation emergency. You need
to act asap. All right, doc. So, what
can I actually do about it? Right, let's
talk the real tools, starting with herbs
and natural strategies that actually
work for you. Number one, my favorite is
horse chestnut. This one is a beast when
it comes to chronic venus insufficiency.
The active compound in there strengthens
veins and reduces swelling. Perfect for
those brown ankle patches or leg ulcers.
Now, go to cola is another favorite and
this one is your skin's best friend. It
helps make collagen, improves the blood
flow, and speeds the healing. Great for
ulcers, scars, and any spot that your
body needs repair. The next one is
interesting as well and that's called
chundula cream. Think of this as
nature's wound cream. Anti-inflammatory,
antimicrobial, gentle and effective. Use
it on your dry patches, your ulcers, or
anywhere you've got irritation. And
turmeric, that one, you know this one,
right? It is the inflammation killer.
Take it with some black pepper for
better absorption. And this will help
everything from itchy rashes to insulin
sensitivity. And the next one you're
familiar with is also garlic. This does
double duty. Helps your circulation,
fights the skin bugs. And just don't eat
it raw before a date. That's all. Now
glutathione and an acetylcyine. These
are your body's detox superheroes. They
help reduce oxidative stress, especially
if your skin has been slow to heal or
you've got a lot of inflammation under
the hood. So, how does the movement help
your skin? The short answer is if you're
not moving, your blood isn't either. And
that's a problem. Your calves are like
pumps. Every step you take squeezes the
veins and pushes blood back to your
heart. No steps, no circulation. More
swelling, more skin damage. Now, do this
every hour. Do 20 seated heel rises or
ankle pumps. Doesn't sound like much,
but it's like a massage for your veins.
Go for a walk after meals. Even 10 to 15
minutes helps blood sugar and blood
flow. Two birds, one walk. And if you've
got a mini trampoline or vibration plate
or something, use it. That's a lymphatic
hack right there. And the next is
grounding or earthing. Yes, it's real.
This isn't woo. Okay. Grounding or
walking barefoot on the earth actually
transfers electrons into your body. It
lowers the inflammation, reduces pain,
and improves blood flow. If you've got
neuropathy or swelling, try walking
barefoot on grass or sand for 20 minutes
a day. It is free. It is effective. And
honestly, it feels amazing. I do it all
the time. I'm going to give you some
bonus fixes, okay? Minerals, some water,
some food, and don't forget your
internal tools as well. Now, zinc is
critical for wound healing, right? You
heard that before. And magnesium
improves insulin sensitivity and
circulation. The best is magnesium
glycinate for better absorption. Copper
helps with collagen and vascular health
if your copper is low. And hydration is
not optional. Okay, dry skin starts from
inside. Now what you need to do, you
need to have high quality protein and
omega-3s. These healthy fats, they will
help rebuild the tissue. You cannot heal
on ultrarocessed snacks and diet soda.
Your skin is not just some superficial
thing, okay? It is a report card for
your metabolic health. If you are seeing
any of these signs, don't ignore them.
They are clues. And the cool part, most
of this is fixable. Control your blood
sugar. Move your body. Get grounded. Use
smart herbal allies. support your detox
systems and your skin will love you. If
