Home birth or hospital birth?! There are so many options when giving birth these days and they all have their pros and cons. Today I'm breaking it down to help figure out what is my best option for having this baby. I loved being able to have the water birth option at home, but I also loved getting away from the chaos of home at the hospital. It's so hard to decide! Either way I'm planning a natural birth like my others and am getting excited!

you guys crazy crazy today I am 11 weeks
pregnant I can't even believe already so
11 weeks I have not had a prenatal
checkup yet which is funny because I
feel like usually you know you like call
and skip to an appointment and go right
away and you do that confirmation
ultrasound or whatever it is something
you know you get things going with your
care
this thing's been a little tricky for us
so we actually have our first
appointment scheduled for tomorrow but
it took a while to get there because we
couldn't decide what we wanted this
birth to be like and what we wanted our
birth clan to be like so I'm gonna walk
through with you guys some of our
decision weighing and like kind of the
pros and cons I feel like - each at
least for me personally you know - a
home birth and a hospital birth and I
just wanted to take you guys through
that with me so for us we've actually
had four of our babies in a hospital
setting the first two were with an OB in
the second two were with a midwife with
Tyler I had an epidural it was kind of a
rough experience I feel like her birth
was the most traumatic for me and my
friends had babies I didn't know what to
expect I was scared and a lot of times
with an OB with a normal healthy
pregnancy things can escalate quickly
there was talk about the c-section like
while I'm pushing and all this stuff and
none of it in hindsight and what I've
learned like none of that was necessary
see I was really over me so that changed
everything so when I had Elena I was
determined like where it going natural
and then I think that interest grew and
grew from there I wanted to have a home
before but I think John was a little bit
nervous about it and so finally we got
pregnant whenever we were like I'm
having my brother always wanted this and
so I loved it
like home birth is this amazing awesome
thing but then there are some reasons
where I was like I don't know if that's
the best choice again so let's start
weighing the pros and cons for me
personally of a breakfast program we
still one of the things that was there's
obviously a huge factor is finances
depending on where you go and what your
insurance takes like there are so many
variables to the cost of a birth so a
home worth out-of-pocket would be much
cheaper than a hospital birth out of
pocket the issue that we are having is
that the Midwife and provider that I
liked for the hospital does not take our
insurance so we would have to self pay
for the doctor Midwife portion which
would actually be more than our portion
for a home birth so we're looking right
there at a big like okay this is a big
cost difference like what obviously
that's a huge factor but we didn't want
that to be the only factor because in
reality having you know your birth be as
smooth as possible and just to be you
know an experience that's as close to
what you'd like as possible is important
and so first we're willing to invest in
that if we needed to but on the flip
side for me I was like well here you
have the home birth it's cheaper but
there's also then you know the pressure
of
having to prepare everything and prepare
our home and have our room be clean and
have everything in order which isn't a
lot mind you like it we had we got the
supplies that we needed and I was able
to set it but even for me right now like
keeping the house clean is such a hard
thing that was like I wouldn't think I
want to do together was sorry okay at
the hospital you don't have to worry
about that they obviously have
everything they need you bring your
stuff you get some you get comfortable
but you have to worry about the tools
you want to worry about I didn't have to
clean personally but I didn't have to
worry about anything being cleaned or
anything like that like you're outside
of your space okay so when you are
planning to get birth at a hospital you
have to know when it's time to go which
sounds crazy right okay
but for me it's never been up my waters
breaking oh go to the hospital like pack
your bags go um and it's never been a
okay my contractions are consistent I
mean with Tyler I think it was but they
were so sure I was not in labor she was
like yeah you can come in but I don't
think you're in labor and I got there
they're like oh you're five centimeters
okay like like yeah so the thing is then
I got stalled out around six and meters
and ended up staying overnight and then
they break my water and they become okay
but as my Labor's as I've had subsequent
children I feel like it gets harder and
harder to know when it's time to go with
Everly's birth and if you haven't seen
her birth video you can go back and
watch it I was at ten centimeters and
not in pain like it was the most out of
like this world experience
I was literally standing there like I
feel them but it's not like crippling
and they're like okay well we should
break your water and choke them out and
I'm like can I just try to push like I'm
already at ten can I just like can we
give it a go like I was literally like
that seething and talking it was so
weird so no I'm like man I can be at
home like
that 10 centimeters I mean by then I had
pretty consistent contractions so I can
think that I would be at the hospital
but you know I'm saying like I don't
want to go and only be six and be there
for two days or have him send me home so
that's what happened with adilyn's birth
without a hospital and went and we were
there I asked her to hold off on
breaking my water because I was having
consistent contractions and I just
wanted to see if if I could do it
because I've always had my water broken
and so I just wanted to see if I could
do on my own
this is a D and um it was about five
o'clock in the morning and she was like
I either break your water you mean and
by this time like the Midwife that had
been on call I was like I don't John
heard it baby like I just don't feel
comfortable her she's been pushy and
rude and like I was the tears so we
ended up leaving the hospital at five in
the morning at six centimeters and
staying in hotel coming back the next
morning thank God my favorite Midwife
was on call and she's actually the one
that delivered addy but you know I'm
saying so here I am like oh we do the
hospital again I have no one to go in I
don't want to go and have somebody come
and watch our kids and then get sitting
home and then because we have so many
kids you have to get babysitters for
somebody who can come in and so that's a
huge factor but then on the other hand
with home birth it was hard for me to
get into labor early and almost because
when you're in a hospital
they your midwife or OB they have other
patients so they're doing rounds and
they're checking other people the nurses
are checking on that people at home I'm
not only patient so like I felt like I
could chat and talk it you know not
being in a super amount of pain was like
I'm like I'm like like entertaining
almost and it just felt like when I'm
sitting in the birthing pool like trying
to close my eyes every time I open them
they're just like sitting around looking
at me I'm like for me that is not like
that is not my
ideal situation being the center of
everything like that so it was very hard
for me to get in a place of like letting
my body relax and like get into labor
zone and like go you know so that was
what was different about a home birth
for me where I just in the hospital
setting I'm by myself and I can just
tune everything out everyone out with my
music like nap sway walk around like
whatever I want to do get comfortable
and just really like Zone in on the
contractions and on letting my body do
it it's supposed to do and on God and on
you know worship music and like really
get this place and I felt like even
though I was home and it should be more
comfortable and I didn't have you know
and I abhi pour it in and I didn't have
it you know distractions and nurses
coming in and checking on me or
monitoring the baby like I still felt
like I had a hard time getting there
because everybody's watching me so
another thing about the hospital is you
know with Tyler it was I ended up
getting an epidural which I don't even
know how far I was probably eight
centimeters like what I did I it didn't
work herself like I couldn't I could
just don't feel everything they up the
medicine I could still feel everything
they try to differ medicine and then
like everything was known after that
like in my arms it was crazy but then
from there you know they wanted to do an
episiotomy and then it was if you don't
push the baby out now you're gonna have
a c-section that was like this thing
after thing it was scary you know and I
just felt like there was so much
pressure and that was with an OB that's
where I switch to a midwife and so
things were so much better after that
and I really do love a midwife she
delivered Jude and Adeline and she was
amazing
and so calming and exactly what
needed in those moments you know so so
for me like I have this good memories of
these birds like Jude's birth if you
haven't seen her birth video
it was the most peaceful spiritual like
amazing thing for me and I really fell
in love with birth from that you know
but the other thing there is you do
after you have the baby and you're
trying to recover you have nurses that
come in all night and push on you and
they press on you and they wake you up
and they take your blood and they want
to you know do tests on the baby and all
this stuff where is that home they got
the measurements of everything they
cleaned up for me they got me some food
and then they left and I got to just
sleep and be my own bed and be
comfortable they came back the next day
to check the baby I didn't have to go
for a whole month at all of Everly's
appointments they came here and they
took care of that so I didn't have to
take her to the doctor so that was
another really great thing about the
home birth versus you know the hospital
you go home and you have to come back to
the doctor or the pediatrician in two
days to make sure if he was gaining
weight for me like all these things are
floating around my head and I'm like I
just don't know do we anymore do not
like the food at the hospital I hope
everybody talks about hospital food but
for me it's just like not having to make
anything or worry about anything it's
nice just to like sit there and order
something and I don't like it they have
veggie burgers that are actually pretty
good and french toast every day so I can
live with that like I love that and the
hospitals right across from a whole food
so you can get snacks and smoothies and
here they made food but also like what
we had whom we didn't have very many
groceries and so I know like after I'd
have it really
there was Domino's Pizza and I was like
I don't I just go sorry don't want to
eat you know I couldn't eat what I
wanted to eat we didn't have any
groceries and so there's this whole
thing so some so silly as I'm saying it
but for real that's a factor for me I
to just eat what I'm craving and after
you have a baby like crepe I don't know
like you're like during pregnancy I feel
like that was craving specific things
each time but then part of me is like
you know it the little break from the
other kids and from the chaos at home
might be nice even though I love love
love having them here I loved having
Tyler cut every lace cord and having
them be able to meet their baby sister
right away it still has been nice in the
past if you like to get a little bit of
break from that and a little bit of okay
this is strictly like time from me and
this new baby took BOM and John like the
three of us to bond and just be there
and the girls would come to the hospital
but it was just this nice little like
break from reality almost and this is
time to you know get the hang of Nursing
and not have to worry about anything no
it's it just it's like a holiday it
sounds so great but we don't get a break
very much so that's what it's not like
so yeah that's also something that we
wanted to take into consideration
there's so many things do you see like
this is why it was like a grueling
decision going back and forth between
what's worth it to me and what's not and
then I think John has been super neutral
he's like whatever you want to do is
fine so that wasn't tremendously helpful
so leave me a comment below let me know
like have you given birth at home in a
hospital what was your favorite Y I will
say I like I said I love the hospital I
love the home birth experience that is
something I've always wanted to do and I
did enjoy it so much but this time
around we decided that it would be less
stressful and overall better for us to
deliver this baby in the hospital with
our same midwives as before and so I
don't know I'm excited and anxious about
it part of me is like gonna miss the
idea of the tum birth and the water
birth because that's something I really
wanted and I didn't get
however early in the water but at the
same time I know I'm going to need and
enjoy the break from the girls and just
that one-on-one bonding time with this
new baby and I know that like I said the
ability to just order food and get what
I want to eat and just have that little
break it's gonna be so good for us
especially around such a chaotic time of
the year face it we already have two
birthdays before Christmas
many of Thanksgiving and Christmas like
all within the same four weeks it's just
a mad time of the year for us so we
decided to go to the hospital /
throughout this time still planning on
in October but that is where we are it's
our first appointment with our midwife
is tomorrow and yeah I can't wait to
share this journey with you guys I hope
hearing some of this is helping anybody
way the decision out if you haven't had
a home birth I would totally go for that
like for me I think there's extenuating
things that affected my decision I love
I love the idea of it but it was it's
hard for me being a person who needs to
be alone and in my zone to labor to be
the center of attention like that and it
was hard for me to hear on my other kids
downstairs and you know in the back of
your mind you still are worried about
that one who's taking care of them and
how they're doing and whatever's going
on and then you know those days like
shortly after if we didn't have five
already and if I if I didn't want to be
split alone and a zone to leave her and
so all these things factored in that
position but I'm excited about it yeah
like I said I can't wait to share it
with you guys so click Subscribe if you
haven't already I'd love to chat more in
the comments below
throw you know any questions you have my
way I feel like I've done that all I
haven't had a c-section but aside from
that
definitely had a lot of experience with
labor and birth and be happy to came to
questions or chat with you guys I love
y'all and I will
