In just two weeks, I’m supposed to be on a one-way flight to Japan, but I just found out my Worldpackers experience was canceled. Now I have no idea where I'll go or where I'll stay once I arrive. Should I still take the flight? What would you do in my situation?
How did we end up here? 29 years old, jobless, homeless, living out of a bag,
you know, not entirely where I thought my life would be at 29 years old did I think that I would
be in this situation, but here I am. Hi, I'm Abbey and I have been traveling the world for seven
years. So some people might say that is homeless, some people may not, but I don't have a home. I
don't live anywhere. Pretty much my entire life is in a bag and my bag is spread out in this entire
room that I'm sitting in and talking to you in. And my life has just been in crazy shambles. I
don't even know what's going on. I've been posting on TikTok for over a year and a half and on
Instagram and I decided I wanted to come here on YouTube and do more longer form content to
have more of a connection to an audience and things like that. I don't even quite know what
I'm doing and I thought I had a plan of what I was going to be doing with my life and a little
bit of a plan a few months ahead. But then, you know, I got an email yesterday that changed
everything and now I literally have to pivot and change my life around like quickly and I'm gonna
lose a lot of money because of it and I'm super stressed out because I have a one-way flight to
Japan in three weeks and I was originally supposed to be staying somewhere, but that's gone. Like,
it's taken from me. So let's backtrack. I am a travel creator posting on social media and I got
reached out to by an organization called World Packers, which I'm sure you might have heard of
if you're in the travel niche, where you can pretty much exchange and do a volunteer thing.
So they wanted me to promote World Packers, going there, doing that and I was like, okay,
cool, maybe we'll do it, but I want it to be related to surfing because I love surfing.
Everywhere I travel to is based on surfing. I'm obsessed with surfing. My life revolves around
surfing. I'm not a pro surfer. I wish I was. I just love it. So I was like, okay, cool,
I'm gonna do it, but I want to make it surf related. So how can I do that? So I searched
online and I found a page that was pretty much like talking and looking and I found that said
Japan and Japan had been somewhere I've always wanted to go. But one thing that I've done,
which has always made me travel for so long, is I travel hack. So for cheaper countries,
I'll go on my own and explore more expensive countries. I kind of wait till I have a friend
there and then I go or I do a kind of an exchange. So it outweighs the cost. I was like, okay, great,
this sounds amazing. I'll go teach surfing and skating in Japan. Wow, how could life get any
better? No, I'm getting my room paid for. I'm getting food paid for. This is amazing. I was
just living in Mexico, loving my life. And I was like, let's go to Japan. Let's go try some sushi.
You know, why not? Yeah. And then yesterday I get an email and the email says, hold on,
let me pull it up for us really quick, which changed everything. The email says,
hi, from the team member. I want to reach out to inform you that the host at the place you were
staying in is no longer a part of our community. The project was deactivated from our Worldpackers
according to our policies due to reoccurring negative feedback from travelers of our community.
On the platform, I saw that you had it confirmed to be there on the 24th of August. And they are
like, anyways, saying that it's going to be canceled. And they said it was located in Japan
and whatever. And I'm like, I literally am leaving for Japan in two and a half weeks.
I have a one-way flight to Japan. I was like super excited. I didn't have to worry about
accommodation or anything like that. And, you know, being a creator, your income is always fluid
and not completely flexible. And now I'm sitting here in my sister's apartment, so excited to go
surfing and teach surfing and doing that. And I am like, now I can't go. Now I don't have an
opportunity. Now I don't have anything waiting for me. And Japan is a very expensive country,
even though currently the yen is dropping. But with Japan, I don't want to go spend the money
to stay there on my own. So I'm just like, low key, don't know what I'm going to do. I'm just
here sitting here trying to chase a dream of becoming a creator full time, you know, chasing
that life. And, you know, and one way of doing that is exchanging like accommodation for that.
And so now I'm like, now I don't have a place to stay or to live, to work in Japan. And my flight's
there to Japan on a one-way flight that is paid for. And now there's nothing there. And I don't
know what to do. So for the past 21 hours, I've just been stressed out being like, what do I do?
My whole life is here in shambles. But yeah, so I figured I would document it. And I want to
document it because I want to be real, show everything that's going through with my life,
what is actually happening, you know, to see the, I often feel like we see everything that's
glamorized on social media and the highs that people experience and their success. But not
often do we see the downfall or the places where we have to learn to pivot. And that's something
with life and entrepreneurship and whatever it may be is learning how to pivot and dealing with
it because life doesn't always happen exactly how you want it to, and nor do we want it to. So when
a door closes and you have, and it doesn't go your way, you have to learn how to pivot quickly.
So I want to bring you along for the journey of my pivot of my, what I thought I was going to do,
go teach surfing in Japan. And now I'm not. So if you want to hear more about my journey,
please like this video, subscribe, and you can see what I get up to next, what I'm going to do,
because I'm going to go on that flight to Japan. I don't want to fight. I don't really know what's
going to happen, but I'm going to go because I paid for it and I don't know how long I'm
going to stay. But if you want to find out, let me know and subscribe. Thank you.
