It had rained all morning.
The sky was still gray,
and tiny droplets clung to every leaf and flower in the garden.
Toby sat by the window, his chin on his paw.
Will it rain forever?
He sighed.
But just then, the clouds began to part,
and a warm ray of sunshine peeked through.
Toby's eyes lit up.
Mama!
He shouted, jumping up and pointing outside.
There, across the sky, stretched a bright, beautiful rainbow.
It's like the sky is smiling!
Toby gasped.
Mama Bear smiled.
Do you know how rainbows are made?
Toby shook his head.
Well, she said,
when sunlight passes through tiny water droplets in the air,
the light bends and splits into colors, just like magic.
Toby's mouth made a little O shape.
So, sunshine and raindrops make rainbows together?
Exactly!
Mama nodded.
It's science with a little sparkle!
Toby couldn't stop thinking about it.
Can we make a rainbow at home?
Mama Bear grinned.
Let's try!
In the kitchen, they filled a glass bowl with water
and placed a small mirror inside.
Mama shone a flashlight onto the mirror,
and suddenly, on the wall,
appeared a tiny rainbow.
Whoa!
Toby cheered, spinning in a happy circle.
I made a rainbow!
That evening, Toby snuggled under his blanket,
still thinking about rainbows.
The rain had stopped, and outside his window,
the stars were beginning to peek out.
Mama Bear opened the door quietly.
Time for sleep, my little scientist,
she whispered with a smile.
Toby yawned and looked up at her.
Rainbows are real magic,
and science is even cooler than I thought!
Mama leaned down and kissed his forehead.
The world is full of wonder, Toby,
she said softly.
You just have to look.
Toby closed his eyes,
a happy smile on his face.
Somewhere in his dreams, colors danced across the sky.
