John Rahm could be one of those rare occasions where not a single player of these 54 great
players is able to go bogey free around the golf course. Yeah that's perfect.
Well Sergio will be at Royal Portrush. Can he defend his title here in Andalusia?
It's a course he knows and he loves. John Rahm would love a win on home soil.
It's Cam Smith for birdie at two. Such a tough putt to read right there. You saw it swing right early.
That was impressive. Bryson will be first on the fourth green for birdie. It's a left to righter.
Very quick. Good start for Bryson. Moments ago this was Phil Mickelson for birdie at 11.
Mito Pereira has been struggling. That's for birdie at five. Beautiful.
Up a couple to the fourth. Su-An, you're watching Cam Smith. A slight downhill lie.
There's a big backstop here. Oh and that catches it. That could be...
Yeah that's really good. Beautifully judged. To the third and Patrick Reid from the bunker.
I say it every week. Best bunker player I've ever seen. Yeah we see what you mean Dom. Lee Westwood
up the hill at four. This is his third shot of the par five. Beautiful. Lucas Herbert his third out
of 11. That would lead to a birdie. Yeah no chance for Sergio or Patrick Reid to attempt a green but
John Rahm maybe he'll be tempted. It's so narrow at the front.
Oh 15 feet off the ground. A pretty shot. He doesn't get any better than that. Perfect angle.
Perfect distance as well. Well that was going on. Lee Westwood was doing this at five.
Oh and another fine shot from the Englishman. This is a moment to go. Phil his second shot at 14.
That's got to be perfect. Yeah pretty much. Lee Westwood for the outright lead. This for birdie at
five. Really starting to roll it well. Didn't even need the slope behind. That's a beautiful shot.
13 feet away for John Rahm. His birdie effort. This is a good opportunity for John.
Expected a little bit closer from his third. That drops in beautifully. Taylor Gooch won here in
the lift golf league in 2023. This is his second shot at the second.
Almost cans it. Lee Westwood for par at six to maintain that one shot lead and that is beautifully
done. Back at five with Patrick Reid. And he'll use the wedge that suits the grass the best.
Some have six degrees of bounce. Some have only three or four degrees of bounce.
Lovely stuff. One hop and dance right there. A moment ago this was DJ for birdie at 10.
Yep here on the fifth. The weekend for John Rahm to win his first lift golf league tournament of the year.
This is A. Banser. That's his fourth shot at 17 and his final one. Chips it in for birdie.
Brooks Koepke of course withdrew after nine holes of his opening round through
illness in Dallas. This was for birdie at three. And Brooks back to one over par.
Lee Westwood having a go at the seventh green. Another wonderful shot.
Suanne watching Cam Smith from the greenside bunker at eight. Makes it look so easy Cam.
Cameron Tringale misses his second shot at 15 apart three. Very nice. He has three birdies and
two bogeys in an eventful opening six holes. He's one under par. Now Westwood with another great chance.
What a start back at six. Sergio for birdie.
And they love him right here. It's a mutual feeling. Cam for birdie at eight.
He's one behind Lee Westwood and Ripper back into a tie for the team lead.
Lee Westwood is butchering the eighth. This is his fourth shot so he'll have that for double.
The green at seven and John Rahm for par to stay at one under.
What a good putt. Bryson for birdie at 11. He gets it to one under. Back to the eighth green and John
Rahm for birdie. Liveline has this as a substantial bender from this distance. Two
feet four inches outside the right for the initial starting point.
And both the Liveline and John were right on that one. Reed is next. Can he judge that first bounce?
Yes he can.
Boy Bryson at 13 with the driver and another tight par four. That's a huge tee shot at 13.
418 yards. He's hit about 400 of them. The Valderrama wins have been vicious. Only
seven players are under par with nine to play on day one. Now to the green at 12 and Cam Smith
with an opportunity here to open up a two-shot lead. Oh yes Cam Smith. He leads Lee Westwood by two.
Terrell Hatton's second shot at the second. He's won over. Not for long. Meanwhile at the 15th is
Bryson. Fabulous shot. Oh boy just gusted another 10 miles an hour easily. That's well done. Really
well done. Cam here at 15. This is for bogey. Oh boy. Well he was bogey free to that point but
Campbell dropped two shots. He leads by one. Elsewhere Taylor Gooch plays for Smash GC who
are in second place as it stands. This is his second shot into the 10th. Live Golf League champion
in 2023. Look at the flagstick. And then it rolls. It has come to rest. He has not had the opportunity to
mark the ball and lift it. So that ball is still in play and now they're just huddled and I don't
think Brooks has been pretty adamant. I do not think they're going to hit another shot. Well elsewhere
Junichiro Kazuma missed the opening five events of the season but it's been superb since his season
started in Mexico City. This is his second shot at 11 and this led to a collector's item today. An
eagle for Junichiro at the par five and he's two over par which in this scenario is well in contention.
A slightly easier angle for Garcia. It's not a straight downwind but he's going to play for
three or four feet more break from the left just to play for the wind. First part of it uphill and
then it turns. That's a great effort. That is an excellent effort and look at this.
Once it turns down and goes downwind. Will Smash still have a plate at the 11th?
There you go and there's the horn. It's a suspension of play here. We will
resume the first round of Live Golf Andalusia at 8am. So back underway then at Rail Club Valderrama
as we look to complete the first round of Live Golf Andalusia. Cam Smith his fourth at 17.
And he joins the leaders on one under par. This was Taylor Gooch second shot at 13.
Had to hoist that up over the cork tree in front of him and that's a beautiful shot.
Taylor Gooch breaks the tie. He gets to two under par. The 2023 champion here
for Smash GC who remain in a tie for second place. And back to the green at one for Wako Nieman.
Well what an end to his opening round here. Two under par. He's joined the leaders.
This to end with a par. 69 for Cam as well. Taylor Gooch his second at 15.
He'll have that to stay tied with Smith and Nieman on two under. John Rahm teeing off at 18. Not with
a driver. I think this is the right club for John Rahm. He can move it right to left with a driver
but it's going to be much easier to do it with this club. I hit it good so let's hope. Tiny draw.
Patrick Reed to end his opening round with a birdie and get to one under. What a good run.
Well Patrick Reed has live golf glory and the potential of a Ryder Cup spot on his mind
and that's a flourish to end his first round. John Rahm for par. Such a beautiful tee shot. Yeah
took the words right out of my mouth David. I mean from that position with a gap wedge
I should be thinking of this should be a birdie putt. Yep well done. Opening round of 71.
Level par. Two back of the leaders. So Taylor Gooch, Wako Nieman, Cameron Smith lead the way
by a shot on two under par but well it's anyone's guess who's going to take the victory here over
the weekend. Sergio Garcia still very much in the mix on two over par. Well it's been an exciting
resumption. Round one is in the books. Round two to follow.
