Hi, I'm Lindsay.
I taught myself to roller skate in 30 days
and I'm gonna teach you how to too.
This is day eight of your learn to skate
in 30 days roller skate program.
Today, you're gonna be learning five rad roller skating
tricks for small spaces.
The first one that we're gonna learn is heel toe spins.
This move, you're gonna be up on one toe and one heel
and the direction that you're spinning is toward the toe.
So when I first learned it, I was really confused by that
and so I'm like, you have to turn towards the toe.
I always have to remind myself that.
So we're gonna be going up onto this toe
and up onto this heel.
So let's just practice that a couple times.
So here and then lift up and I like to use my arms.
I know I look like a bird when I'm practicing.
Use your arms to get some lift
and then you're gonna spin that way.
So I like to start with my arms like this
and then I'm going to swing like that.
Let's just start out with a half turn.
So here, set up, half turn and down.
Let's do another half, half turn and down.
Okay, good.
Now let's go ahead and make the full circle
and you can like increase up to that
but that is your first move for small spaces.
The next move is one of my favorite moves to do
because I think it looks so cool but it's also really easy.
So it's gonna be toe stop circles.
So you're gonna put one toe stop down
and these are high toe stop circles.
For some reason, lower ones are so much harder.
First one, you're gonna put your foot down
with your toe stop down
and then you're gonna draw a circle with the other foot.
So I'm drawing the circle
and you can kind of practice this slowly
but it's like way easier if you do it fast.
So here, spin.
But you can practice it slowly first.
So here and then you're pushing your way around the circle,
drawing a circle with the other foot
and then once you're confident,
you're going to push right into it and spin
and then you can do the other side.
Push into it and spin.
Here and spin.
The next rad move that we're gonna learn for small spaces
is the backwards pivot.
So you're gonna go up onto your toes,
do this, going up on your toes
and then also twisting your heels to the other side.
So in place, it looks like this.
So here, pivot and you're kind of like guiding
with your hips.
So here, up with your hips and switch
and you're gonna be going up on your toes
and switch, switch, switch
and then you're gonna start pressing back.
So here, up on your toes and switch,
then you're gonna push diagonally that word
and push your hips in a little circle the other way
and when you do this,
you do not have to lift your heels off super high.
Just a little bit off the ground enough to switch sides.
I like to bend my knees a lot and get down into it.
You can even do three back and then turn it around.
So swivel 180 into the next one.
One, two, three, swivel.
The next rad move for small spaces we're gonna be doing
is alternating manuals.
This is not only fun,
but it's also essential for learning how to skate.
So you're gonna be starting off doing a manual on one side
and then you're gonna be switching your feet
to do manual on the other side.
Practice it slowly first, manual hold
and then come to the center
and then switch manual on the other side
and then come back to center
and then you're gonna keep alternating
until you can do it fast and confidently.
The last move that we're gonna learn for small spaces
is a really fun drill for a move
we're gonna be learning in the next few days.
So first thing you're gonna do
is you're gonna go up onto one heel
and then you're gonna,
and you're not transferring weight yet
and then you're gonna switch to the other side
and you wanna keep the weight centered
and then you're just gonna alternate between the two
with the weight staying in the center
until you can confidently go back and forth just like this.
So those were your five rad roller skating moves
for small spaces and your day eight
