Barbara Stryand didn't just build homes.
She built entire worlds. From a
full-blown art deco guest house to her
own shopping mall in the basement, Babs
has done it all and then some. Today,
we're taking a look inside Barbara
Tryen's real life dream estate in
Malibu, the homes she's owned across New
York and LA, and the insane amount of
detail she's put into every inch. Let's
get into it. Before all the awards,
Barbara Tisen grew up in Brooklyn. Born
in 1942, she lived in a small apartment
with her mom and brother, cheering one
room and barely scraping by. Barbara
didn't grow up in luxury. She grew up in
a walk up, a railroad flat, and even
spent a while couch surfing after moving
to Manhattan. One of her first places in
NYC had the bathtub in the kitchen. That
didn't stop her from decorating it like
a star. She used empty picture frames to
decorate the walls because she couldn't
afford real art. By 19, she was starring
in Broadway's I Can Get It For You
Wholesale and sharing a tiny apartment
above a seafood restaurant with Elliot
Gold. It even had a raft that they named
Oscar. As soon as she started making
serious money, Babs moved into a duplex
at the Arsley on Central Park West,
formerly owned by lyricist Laurens Hart.
That place was a fullon Louis the 15th
vibes. We got satin mo bronze statues.
She went all in on the glam. Later, she
dropped 420K on a fivestory NYC
townhouse back in 1970. But by the time
she got it, she was already
transitioning to the West Coast. When
Barbara moved to LA, she started renting
Greta Garbo's old house on Carolwood
Drive in Home Hills, then ended up
buying it. This spot was next level. A
two-story living room, a full library, a
pool, seven baths, and major old
Hollywood energy. She designed the space
around an art nuvo lamp and filled it
with antiques. In 1997, she sold this
home for $4.8 million. Guys, I have an
important announcement about this
channel. There is someone trying to take
this channel, Famous Entertainment,
Down, and have everything that I've
worked so hard on deleted. Click the
link in the top comment, and I'll
explain everything at the end of this
video. So, please stay tuned. Let's talk
about what's arguably Barbara's Tisen's
greatest masterpiece. not a film or an
album, but her custombuilt Malibu
compound. This place wasn't just a
mansion. It was basically a private
village. Sitting on 22 acres of prime
Malibu real estate, Barbara's property
included not one, not two, but five
separate home. The main house, grandma's
house, barn, peach house, and her art
deco house. She started building this
massive setup in the 70s after buying
the land with then boyfriend John
Peters. It took decades of designing,
redesigning, and refining every single
detail. And if there was one thing that
we've learned from Barbara, it's that
when she wants it done right, she does
it herself. The main house is where she
would spend most of her time, and it was
full of craftsman style woodwork,
vintage finds, and cozy earth tone. But
what really makes this whole estate feel
like something out of a movie is the
fact that every building has its own
theme and purpose. One of the standout
structures was the barn. And yeah, it's
a real barn. It's painted classic red
with black and white trim. She even had
chickens that laid green eggs because of
course she did. There's also a koi pond
outside the barn with custom color
matched black and white fish to go with
the house's aesthetic. That's the level
of detail that we're talking about. But
the real showstopper is what's
underneath the barn. Barbara's private
shopping mall. And no, you're not
hearing things. She literally built a
mini mall in her basement. Each store in
this underground village is designed in
the style of the art nuvo era and full
with her massive collection of vintage
clothes, furniture, antique, and
one-of-a-kind decor. There's even a
Louis X 15th inspired boutique that
holds the black lace cape she wore in
Funny Girl and other wild custom pieces
that most people would have just put in
storage. But Barbara, she turned it into
a museum under her own house. She also
added a rose garden that she uses to
disconnect and recharge. She said she
literally goes out there just to smell
the roses. And when you've got ocean
views, koi ponds, and custom roses, why
wouldn't you? Now, eventually, Barbara
decided it was time to simplify. Well,
sort of. She sold the Carolwood estate,
donated a Malibu ranch to the state, and
set her sights on building one house,
her forever home on the ocean. This
dreamhouse sits on a cliff in Malibu and
took years to fully build. It's actually
made up of four buildings, all designed
with nature, privacy, and calm. Here we
have the main house, the mill house,
grandma's house, and the barn again,
which was rebuilt and re-imagined for
her new life. This time around, she was
all about the detail. The interiors are
totally custom, and everything was
picked by Barbara herself, from the
beams in the ceiling to the exact shade
of lavender used in the lavender
bedroom. And that lavender bedroom,
that's where she sets up her mic and
records music. No fancy sound booth,
just a mic stand, her voice, and a giant
window with a view of the Pacific Ocean.
She literally recorded duets with Tony
Bennett and Barry Gibb right there in
what looks like a cozy guest room. She
said that she could have built a
professional recording studio in the
barn, but she didn't want to. Why?
Because she doesn't need fancy tech when
the vibe is right. The family room in
this house sticks to Barbara's design
rule. One or two colors only per room.
It's all soft textures, monochrome
tones, and zero distraction. She says it
helps her hear the conversation better.
And honestly, when your house is that
gorgeous, you definitely don't want loud
prints yelling over the vibe. Even the
streams and the water features around
the house were designed by her. That's
right. She added water to surround the
property because she finds it calming.
The result, a peaceful, highly
customized compound with ocean views,
roses, and personal touches in every
single room. This wasn't just about
showing off wealth. It was about
creating a space that reflected her
story, her style, and the legacy that
she wanted to leave behind. That wraps
up our Barbara Stryson house tour. What

mall? Thanks for watching and if you

Famous Entertainment. So, that's going

I live in a historic house, and I love
doing home rens. Well, at least I've
been learning the last year. I have
three dogs. I do daily workouts. We go
to events. You know, there's trips to
the hairdresser sometimes. I also have
three amazing rescue dogs. I've fostered
dogs before. I do daily workouts. We go

someday have a big wedding that Michael
promised me. Anyways, I've been posting
this stuff for years on Instagram. But

I'm going to try to merge my personal
content with the content that you come

your support to get the new channel
going. So, please, if you enjoyed the

super important for me to keep our
amazing community together. and in case
anything happens to the main channel,
this is where you're always going to be
able to find me. We've recently had some
hiccups that have affected both life and
business. So, there is someone trying to
take this channel down, like I mentioned
before, and I've honestly put so much
work into famous entertainment over the
years. I want to keep my passion for
creating content alive and not let the
drama or bullies bring me down or affect
my ability to work. So, we're starting
fresh, keeping it real, and I promise

to learn what you're doing and hopefully
be able to fix it yourself. There are
also plenty of DIY projects suitable for
beginners like me to do, and ones that
improve the look of your space
drastically. Follow me and I'll teach
