Why ride dual sport? Why do you ride dual sport and/or adventure motorcycles? I'm spending more and more time in the woods on my dual sport bike lately, and it's really gotten me thinking about why I love it so much. What's so appealing about riding alone or with friends in the woods? Why are dual sports the best and most fun type of motorcycle? For me personally, there are a few factors at play. Riding my dual sport in the woods affords me the opportunity to be truly alone with my thoughts: a real introvert's paradise. I love forest exploration and the opportunity to see a road and know I can follow it wherever it leads thanks to the capabilities of my Honda CRF250L. Why dual sport? Because it reminds me of great memories from my youth. Time spent exploring the forest with my dad and grandfather and all the fun we had off the beaten path together. This is my personal "why" of dual sport riding. Why do you ride dual sport/adventure/enduro/dirt bike/other off road motorcycles?
Hello everyone and welcome back to the dork side. I am your friendly neighborhood dork in the road
who doesn't seem to ride on the road very much lately. And today it's time to talk about why
I'm out here. Why do I come out here? Why do I keep coming out here when it's foggy and rainy
and snowy? So it's time to talk about why we ride dual sport. Why do I ride dual sport? Why do you
ride dual sport? Why ride dual sport or off-road at all? Let's talk about it.
That's right everyone, we're back in the cloud. I am the dork in the road and I want to be your
internet riding buddy. And I happen to think I'm better than your regular riding buddies
because I'm available whenever you want, no matter what the weather, if you look around.
And I come with a mute button so you can shut me up whenever you want.
So please don't hesitate to hit that subscribe button and don't forget to turn on the
notification so you know when I post new content just like this. So I've been riding, I've had the
CRF250L for almost three years now. I've been riding dual sport fairly seriously. Well, I've
been riding dual sport fairly often for a couple of years, two and a half years now. And I love it
and it keeps me coming back. And there's a lot of things about it that I love and everyone's reasons
for what they do, their hobbies they choose, why they ride or why they do what it is they do when
they in their spare time are their own. So this is not a I'm trying to tell you what to think or
why you should want to do a thing video. This is me talking through my personal feelings and
motivations and I'm wondering if maybe you have some similar ones so that you know you're not
alone out there in the world of crazy people who want to get on a motorcycle and go ride in the
and things like that. But there's a few reasons why I enjoy dual sport riding why I love it.
And one is just exploration. So I mean here we are up in the snow in the woods. There's nobody
around. I get to go find new awesome areas like hidden ponds and waterfalls and cool just scenic
views and just all kinds of stuff that's just out here that very few people get to see unless they
work in the woods or just someone's told them someone found it and told them about it. There's
not many people that get out here to see this stuff and I get to see unique things that you
know that not everyone gets to and so and going out and finding them that is super fun. I love
being able to find new things other people you know like I said it's a unique experience so you
never know what you're going to find up here and there's so much cool stuff you just never know
like there's an amazing ridge and a rock face beautiful up there where you can't see because
it's in a cloud right now but I never would have found that if I hadn't come up here and just
started exploring on my bike one day. We found that one actually on the way to Wolf Rock.
So the other great thing is finding it is setting a destination and finding your way to it so
exploring the wilderness exploring the backcountry is one great reason why I love to ride dual sport
motorcycles dual sport off-road adventure you could do a lot of exploring at least up here in
the forest on these roads when it's not snowy on an adventure bike no problem so that's one reason
one is exploration. Number two is solitude I am I'm a world-class introvert I'm and that doesn't
mean I can't talk to people or I'm or I'm bad at talking to people I just it exhausts me to spend
a lot of time around people and I'd like to be by myself so it's hard to be more alone than up here
in the woods where there probably isn't another human within a few miles of me except for the two
guys two trucks I just passed going the other direction they're the only ones I've seen all day
so you want a place where you can relax and let your guard down but you don't have to worry about
making small talk or conversation if that's something that you don't enjoy man it's hard
to find a more solace more solitude than being up in the forest on a motorcycle by yourself
and I like doing this with my friends too so I mean that's that's getting away from it all getting
away from you know daily life and and just people everywhere is is a really fun bonus and benefit
so number two is just solitude just seclusion just a chance to truly relax and let your mind
kind of unwind and focus on what you're doing I have a lot it's a total escape like this is maybe
a reason two and a half but I have a ton of stuff to do at work tomorrow and it's been stressing me
out all weekend but this is the first time I thought about it since I've been up here and
that was only because I needed an example so like work tomorrow very stressful but that is it's not
a million miles away but it feels like it is it's very far away when I'm up here in the woods
in the fog alone with my thoughts so it's a great escape a great way to get out
be by yourself and really just just process your thoughts like it's like meditating when you're
riding up here when you're taking it easy and just you know all you really got to think about
is what's ahead of you around the next corner so that's two and two and a half reason three it's
fun and this obvious but I like exploring the woods I like getting up into the woods
I've always liked it it's something my dad you know introduced me to at a young age and
there's no more fun way to do it than I that I could think of than riding a motorcycle because
you're gonna go fast and it's fun right you can twist the throttle and do spin outs and burn outs
and all kinds of cool stuff lean into corners and slide sideways that's all fun just riding a
motorcycle is fun it's pure fun and you can cover a lot of ground very quickly so you know refer
back to reason one with the exploration it's nice to be able to explore a lot very quickly
and without like having to walk everywhere so we're on dual sport riding hiking but faster
man someone should put that on a t-shirt oh wait I did link in the description so it's just fun
man it's just fun so that's is that four that's four I think so and five reason five is and this
is way more personal but I mentioned it a second ago but my dad really my dad my grandpa we all we
spend a lot of time out in the woods camping and my dad and grandpa used to hunt a lot and my dad
just likes to explore and go hiking go fishing went fishing a ton but I've you know kind of grew
up spending time not as much as some but a significant amount of time I have a lot of fond
memories let me say of spending time in the outdoors in the wilderness and it just feels
right to me it's just something I enjoy and so there's another car I don't see the peoples
no they're up there hi peoples hiking around you know it takes me back it's there's a childlike
joy and wonder of being in the wilderness undiscovered things aren't tamed or controlled
and it also just there's just so many fond memories just positive associations with being
in the woods and being able to look around and say oh look at that road I wonder where it goes
and then just going right like my dad was big into exploring that's why it's so great to be
able to now ride dual sport bikes with him so we're come full circle on that but that's why
that's another reason why I like it it's just it's nostalgic it brings me back it's something
that I mean I'm not gonna say it's in my blood because it's not like a not like my family you
know it's a long like multi generations of foresters but just something that I've done my
whole life and it's a different way to do a thing that I enjoy a more efficient and more fun way I
think I also like just driving around up here but it's not as fun as it's more comfortable but it's
less fun than exploring via dual sport motorcycle I'm sure there are other reasons why I love dual
sport riding I love sharing it with you guys that's really fun and I think the sixth reason
and I think it's a probably a subset of reason one but it's it's his own thing that stands alone
is it's just so beautiful like the beauty of a big vista or a waterfall or a cool rock formation or
even you know a tree across the road you might say just the lush greenness and you know you can
run into wildlife even just up in the snow like I just was it's just beautiful pristine white
it's just gorgeous it's just beautiful and calm and it's just you know the world is full of
you know disagreements and strife and everybody's mad at everybody else and you know ugliness and
you can't see eye to eye and it's just getting up here you're away from all that it's just pure
beauty the only person you got to worry about is yourself you can rely on yourself you can think
whatever you want you can pee wherever you want and it's just a great escape and I think that's
the final reason it's just an escape this is a rambly video it's not a seven things video it's a
this is a verbal processing video so you'll have to forgive me for jumping around but I'm not going
to try to edit it back together instead you're going to get a rant in the order it came out
because that is more genuine and that is what this video is about so it's just such a great
escape from everything so if that appeals to you you like riding motorcycles and you're in a
position financially that won't negatively affect your family I've said it a hundred times and I'll
say it again I'll say it to anyone who asks get a dual sport and get out there they're versatile
you know you don't need a truck to haul it in you can just get on and go but you can you can
haul it if you want I have a whole video on that but that's what I typically choose to do
man just do it just get out there escape experience nature be you know on your own
self-reliance solitude escape from the busy hustle and bustle whatever reason you need do it because
it's hard some guys are hardcore into the adrenaline they want to trail ride and ride fast
and other guys like me want to look at the scenery and uh you know get there in the most fun way
possible but not stress about it going off jumps and stuff all the time doesn't matter how you want
to ride just matters that you do so you do you so tell me in the comments I want to know why you
ride why do you ride in the woods why do you ride dual sport why do you ride motorcycles not everybody
rides dual sport your dirt bike what do you ride and why do you ride it what's the reasons you
you've chosen to be a part of this community that's the other great thing is I'm up here by
myself solitude but I also get to share it with all of you so it's like I'm part of a community
even when I'm by myself so it's like the best the most the best way for an introvert to be social
is to do things by themselves and then share it with people afterwards um anyway so that is my
rambling incoherent sort of brain dump on why I enjoy this type of riding why I'm up here today
so if you enjoyed the video please don't forget to like if you haven't yet I would I would be
honored if you'd subscribe maybe you can turn on the notifications so you know when new stuff new
adventures get posted but for now I just want to say thank you for watching and as always please
it's very important that you do not forget to be excellent to each other thank you
excellent oh my feet are getting cold I definitely got them wet
we're back
