Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Rob King, and I was the writer on this film along with the director.
Oh, wow. So, why did you choose this topic to write?
Well, I had worked with the company before on another project,
and I was very interested in the plight of the people of China
who are living under this communist regime.
And so, when they came, the producer, and Yong came to me and said,
would I get involved in writing a script?
And they gave me the basic story idea, and I said,
that sounds to me like a really fascinating, important story to tell.
Oh. So, because I know you are not Chinese people,
so what's your understanding behind this, like, your writing, like, this story?
Well, I mean, to me, what attracted me as a writer was two things.
One was that it's a political thriller, but it has a message based on reality,
and I think the world needs to know what's going on.
And also, it was a strong story about the theme of loyalty,
being loyal to one's country or one's moral standards or loyal to their family,
whatever it is, all these different characters,
their loyalty is being challenged and stretched and changed,
or they're fighting for certain loyalties they have,
or losing those loyalties and getting new ones.
So, all of that I find really fascinating.
Oh, wow. So, what do you want your audience to get,
the message behind this story?
I think the message is, well, part of the story is about how the CCP manipulates people
and how they are engaging and have been for some time in this,
call it a secret war, the unrestricted war, the war that has no rules,
the war that's taking place outside of conventional means
through the use of technology and surveillance and science and biology,
all these things that they're doing in order to gain greater power,
to weaken their perceived enemies in ways that don't involve guns and bullets and tanks and airplanes.
Oh, wow.
So, I think it's important for people to know that,
and to know that when we speak about the Chinese,
that's millions and millions of just ordinary people.
So, when we talk about China, we're really talking about the Chinese Communist Party,
which is separate, I think, from the millions of other Chinese people
who would just like to live their lives in freedom and in peace,
but they can't because they exist under this authoritarian regime.
The ordinary Chinese people is not the CCP.
What's the difference between the two?
Well, I think the difference between just ordinary Chinese people and the CCP
is that the CCP, I think, under this ideology of communism,
has built within its own structure a greed and a sense that they want power
and they'll do anything to hang on to their power and to profit themselves from it,
while people suffer.
Oh, wow.
So, I don't see that as a government that cares necessarily about the people
that it's supposed to be governing.
Oh, really? Wow.
That's hard for people to believe, that the government,
that they don't care about their people.
Well, then I think there are millions and millions of people living in China
who think, or they've been brainwashed into thinking that their government cares for them.
Oh, wow.
But, I mean, their motives are not, their motivation is not peace and fairness
and equality for their citizens, let's say.
Yeah, thank you for your awareness you bring to the Western country
and to the people worldwide to understand what's the difference of CCP
and their common people in China.
So, that could be difficult work for you as a Western people to understand it, right?
Well, as a writer, you do the research and you meet people and you interview them.
Okay.
And, you know, that's how you inform yourself about topics.
And one should never really believe just what, let's say, the mainstream media is presenting to us.
Right.
Because in the West, at least the politicians in the mainstream media have for a long time
just tended to talk about China, the CCP, as a world power, an economic force
that we want to do business with without realizing that they're even using the business side of it
to undermine Western governments, Western elites.
