In this video, I take you along on a memorable visit to my friend’s dacha in a peaceful Belarusian village. 🌿 It was a cozy Friday evening spent barbecuing under the open sky, followed by an immersive walk around the village to capture the essence of life here. From picturesque landscapes to unique moments, there's so much to share!
Along the way, my dog had a few adventures of his own, including an unexpected encounter with a local dog and a playful chase with some village chickens. 🐕🐓 We explored the heart of the village, visiting a quaint school, a historic church, and a serene cemetery. As a delightful bonus, I discovered majestic stork nests scattered throughout the neighborhood. 🕊️
This journey offers a glimpse into the charm and simplicity of village life in Belarus. I hope you enjoy this adventure as much as I did! Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more unique experiences. 😊
Okay, welcome back to A Lot of Adventures. Today I'm in a little village called Shashki.
It's about 80 kilometers away from Minsk and my German friend was so kind to invite me
to his dacha. So I'm, I was here last night, had some beers. I'm a little slow today but
I'm gonna walk around the neighborhood, take my dog for a walk and show you.
Dacha life. Okay, where to start? There's so many dachas. This is a nice one right here.
They might actually live here year-round. So what is a dacha? So a dacha is a, I guess it
would be called, considered like a summer, summer home. They're really small houses.
There's a typical dacha right here and they're usually really old and these days
families just go during the summer and go for like a weekend.
And it's really like a, you know, work in the garden, get some sun, drink some beer, just relax.
The dacha there and it's now Saturday morning. Come on, Obie. Oh, come on. Yeah, so it's now
Saturday morning, like I said, and everybody's working on their dacha. Like for example, Lars,
my buddy, he's got, he's got like a little portable pool and he's building a makeshift
umbrella because it could rain, could rain today. So he doesn't want it to rain in there
and plus he doesn't want it to get dirty. So here's some more dachas.
Got your dogs protecting the dachas.
Obie.
Obie, come on, come on, come on, come on. I thought you guys could be friendly.
Okay, so here's a dacha here. Got a little garden here.
Actually nice. Very green, Obie. Come on. Forget about him, Obie. Come on. No, no. Hello.
He's friendly, Obie. Yeah, he's friendly. Okay. It's a village dog, Obie. They're a little bit
different. Definitely not a city dog. Hey, buddy. How are you?
Tails are good, Obie. Tails are good. Okay, let's go. Let's go, buddy. Come on. No, no. Come on.
Come on. Let's go. Come on. Let's go, buddy. Come on. All right. Let's go. He doesn't seem...
Oh, come on. Come on, Obie. Come on. Come on. Come on. Let's go. Okay, come on.
Didn't work out before. Obie. Obie, come on. No. Come on. Maybe he learned this time.
I don't know. He's friendly though, Obie. Come on. All right. Okay, here's some more dachas.
Huge garden here. Come on, Obie. He's gone. He's gone. He learned his lesson. Okay,
there's another garden. And I would say most of the people that own a dacha, they don't live here
100% of the time. They only come here in the summer and work. And that's what they're doing
there. That's a nice dacha. Look at that, Obie. Yeah, come on. And a typical dacha color is green
and yellow, so right up here. A lot of them are going to be green and yellow or no color. You can
see they're barbecuing out there. We barbecued last night. Chicken and it was quite tasty.
All right, buddy. They know you're coming. They can smell you.
He's in a cage though, Obie. Yeah, come on.
I don't agree putting him in a cage. I don't know how long he's in there,
but some homeowners will keep their dog in a cage their whole life or chained up. I think right.
Come on. Come on. Let's go, buddy.
They're not coming after you now. Obie, come on. It's a good way to get around
in a village just with a scooter. Okay, I want to point something out here.
See that nest up there? That's where storks live. And they have some baby storks
from Lars dacha, which is that way. You can actually see this nest and you can see
I think there's one or two babies and they're just
training because in September, supposedly they fly to Africa. So Lars told me he can see
mama bird training the baby birds how to fly. Getting ready for the Africa trip.
Let's poop, Obie. Come on. Moving on. Oh, look. Got some geese here, Obie. Look.
That's a rooster, Obie. Look, we got some chickens and roosters over here too.
Let's see if we can say hello to geese. They can easily fly away.
Whether they should be in a lake or something. Yeah, Obie.
Oh, no. Come on. Come on. Shame on you, Obie.
Very sorry for that. Come on. Come on, Obie. Let's go before we get in trouble. Come on. Let's go.
Okay, this is a post office. It's Russian.
So this is the Belarusian village post office. Come on, Obie. And if you're just wondering,
this town is called Shashki. It's the village of Shashki. Okay, come on, buddy.
Well, this might be a store right here. Okay. Obie, come on. This is a store.
I wonder if we can go in. I'm gonna have to put you, tie you up. Come on. I'm gonna skip going
to the store because I don't really need anything. But this is the front of the store and that says
magazine, which means store. So this is a village store. Okay, so here is a bus stop.
Bus stop A in Shashki. If you're waiting for a bus, you want to go into town,
this is where you wait. Those are the bus stops. Doesn't look like it's going to Minsk.
Okay. All right, Obie. Oh, look. Shashki Disney Land. Look, Obie. Come here. Look.
Got little animals. Like a little zoo, Obie. Yeah. Okay, let's go. Come on. Okay.
This is a agricultural building, agriculture center of the village. And here you have
honorary members of the board. So, see if I can try this out. So the first one, her,
her name is Yadiga. She was a foreman. And then you have Mikhail.
He was agricultural production, tractor driver. Galina, she was a dispatcher.
So, the honorary board members right there. And then here's the, here's the actual building
for the village of Shashki. Obie, you can't go. Come on. Okay, this looks like a school.
Yes. Shkola. Looks like a school. This is where they play. And they're on recess.
And when they come out, which I thought was interesting. Oh, and by the way, this school
was founded in 1865. 1865. And as they come out, you're picking up your children.
Just take the head, the headphones off.
Look left, look right. And here it says, take your child's hand.
So, just a reminder for safety. Hear that, Obie? Okay. Okay, here's another magazine or store
for food. This is where we got our chicken last night. We barbecued.
Hold on, Obie. Let the bikers through.
Okay, so this is a, it's like a little mini market. And if you want to buy some t-shirts
over here. And it's starting to rain right now. So, they're putting up their tarp,
covering the shirts and the products. So, every day, live your dreams. Okay. Okay, buddy. Let's
go. We gotta go back. It's getting, starting to rain. Come on. No, no, no. Come on. This way.
Okay, here we have the cemetery. This area. I'm not gonna go in there. Let's see. Maybe I can.
But not with the dog. It's very colorful. Look at all the flowers.
Wow. Maybe I can go in there. I see a couple of interesting plots. Look at this.
Flatterneck. Just a couple of years ago. Nice plot. Okay, buddy. Let's go.
Tractor coming by here. Wow. Okay, we're coming up on an orthodox church. Right here.
Hello. It's definitely not open. Maybe we can take a peek through the fence.
Probably just on Sundays, Obie. Tomorrow. A little outhouse. I don't know if that's
the toilet or not. Got a field here. Okay, Obie. Let's go. You've seen enough. Come on. Let's go.
Okay. I think I've lost, got lost. I gotta find this little road.
Okay. I think that's Lars Dacha. Pretty sure. It's a country road.
You remember, you remember, Obie? Hey. You remember? Okay. We'll figure it out. Okay,
let's go this way. This is the way home. Dumpsters. That's where they dump their
garbage. Their dachas. Come on. Come on, buddy. Let's go. Obie? Yeah. I'm not sure either.
Let's go. Come on. Okay. We have two birds nests and two storks coming up.
Stork is huge. What's up, buddy? Resting up for your trip to Africa. You got two babies up here.
Baby stork. This is stork alley right here. There's more, more birds nests down there. There's another
stork. You found it, Obie. Here we are. Okay. We actually got a little bit lost. Yeah. Good work.
Say hello, Lars. Hey.
Yeah. Okay.
Yeah. Okay, guys. That's it for today on this video. I hope you enjoyed it.
Until next time. Ciao.
