Hi, Homeworthy. Welcome to my Upper East Side apartment. Come on in.
You're watching Homeworthy, where we believe every home has a story.
Hi, I am Chelsea. I live in Manhattan, New York City.
I am an author and the founder of a home goods line.
It took me years to find this apartment.
I knew I wanted to buy, but I did not have the budget to buy in Manhattan.
If you have the budget to buy in Manhattan, buying is very simple.
But if you don't, it will take a few years for you to find your space.
The last owners did not leave it in great condition.
But I remember walking through the apartment with the previous owner's things in it.
And I remember seeing the vision, but it was really not in good shape.
And it took a very long time to get the apartment in the shape it is now.
And by the way, there's still so much more that needs to be done in this apartment.
But we've done, I think, a really good job the last seven months we've been here.
I do not wish closing on an apartment in New York City against my worst enemy.
Closing on this apartment was probably the most stressful few months of my entire life.
And then when we closed, I couldn't actually move in because the apartment was inhabitable.
Like truly, the last tenants left it in such a state that I could not move in.
I couldn't use the bathroom, couldn't use the kitchen.
So what I did was I stayed with my boyfriend for about eight weeks
while the bathroom was completely gutted, completely renovated.
We also added flooring on top of the previous flooring.
I get comments all the time about why would you ruin such amazing hardwood floors.
The last floors, although they were real wood, there was so much water damage to them
that they couldn't be salvageable.
I also asked my contractor if it was possible to refinish the floors, like re-sand them.
They said absolutely not.
I also had my contractor fabricate the marble arch into my kitchen.
Normally when you see marble doorways, marble arches in people's homes,
people will take full slabs of marble, but I did not have the budget to do that.
So we used marble tile instead, which you cannot tell.
I mean, it's fantastic.
It was so much more cost effective than using an entire slab.
So we did the bathroom, we did the arch, we did the floors.
And then I moved in, and my boyfriend and I,
we have just been doing the rest ourselves in this apartment.
So the lime wash, I drenched this apartment in lime wash.
But the process of doing it in this living room was absolute chaos.
And that is why I have not painted the ceiling in my office or my bedroom yet.
Because the process of doing it in here, honestly, it was chaotic.
So we scraped off all of the popcorn ceiling in here after I had moved in, by the way.
Which I do not recommend anyone do, because it was complete chaos, a complete disaster.
Then we had to plaster the ceiling, and then we painted over it.
I'm so glad I did it in the end, because this living room,
the fact that we color drenched the ceiling and the walls the same color,
it just like feels something.
It makes you feel something, especially when you walk into this apartment.
It feels like this space was always meant to be lime washed, right?
And it just adds something, it adds character, it adds dimension.
And it just pairs so nicely with all of my vintage and antique items in here.
I mean, it just goes beautifully.
So I'm very happy I was able to lime wash the ceiling and lime wash the walls in here.
But the ceiling, that was a project that I don't know if I can do again, truthfully.
This is the living room, this is the space that I am in most.
So this is also another keepsake case,
which we keep on the coffee table to display books.
This is my book that's coming out in June, Make Yourself at Home.
This is all about how to create a contemporary space
while still designing with antiques and family heirlooms.
This fireplace mantle did not come with the apartment.
I actually had this fireplace mantle in my last two apartments.
I do not believe in getting rid of previous things
when you're moving into a new home, like reuse, repurpose.
So we repurposed this.
Then these modern chrome sculptures I got from France & Son.
So it's all about balancing the antiques with the contemporary.
This is what I call the Seymour chair.
Literally, we call it the Seymour chair because it looks like Seymour.
And Seymour loves sitting on it.
So Seymour, do you like your chair?
Yeah? You like your chair? OK.
Then this sofa, which is like the sofa of all sofas.
No one has a sofa like this.
And I actually, I guess thrifted wouldn't be the word,
but I purchased this from a vintage reseller in Canada.
So we had to find a way to bring this over the border
from Toronto to New York.
But this is a custom sofa from the 1970s.
And just it's gorgeous.
And it is so comfortable.
It is so soft.
And you can tell like the arch,
like the way that the sofa arches.
It's just absolutely gorgeous.
But it fits so many people on it.
It is the perfect cuddle couch to watch TV.
And of course we love hosting.
So it was really important for us to have as much seating as possible.
So we have the Seymour chair,
which a human can sit on it too.
And we have this sofa,
which five or six people can sit on it.
We also have this chrome stool,
which you'll see in my apartment,
a lot of the mixing and matching.
These are photos of my great grandparents,
which again,
incorporate those family heirlooms into your space.
It's what makes your space you.
This melted disco ball I took from my last apartment.
Again, reuse, repurpose.
Now this chandelier,
this is my favorite thing to talk about,
in my living room.
Because it looks like it was always meant to be here.
But we installed it.
It is not hardwired.
It is completely battery operated.
And I'll show you how it works.
And unfortunately it was not an option for us
to hardwire anything in this living room,
or we would have had to lower the ceilings,
which the ceilings are already low.
We were not going to do that.
So we hacked it instead.
This looks hardwired,
but it's all remote operated,
all battery operated.
And we charge these bulbs once every two weeks.
And it's like the best way to incorporate more light.
On a super gloomy day,
which it is kind of gloomy out right now,
but also at night,
this is the main light we use in our table,
or in our floor light over there.
You would not know just by looking at my windowsill,
but this room faces north,
and there's a building across the way.
So like this room is the darkest room in the apartment.
But we added LED light strips from Amazon
over this windowsill,
and more light.
So we are covered with light,
especially at night,
or when it's super dark out,
super gloomy.
Like there's so many ways to hack a home,
especially if a home does not have everything you want in it.
So unfortunately when I purchased this apartment,
I had to give up good light.
But that's okay,
because we made it work.
This is called a frame TV.
You can get it from Samsung.
I know a lot of people have it.
But to really add to the effect of it being art,
we put this TV on an easel,
which we actually love,
because if we're outside on the balcony,
we'll actually move the TV,
and we'll face it towards the balcony.
Or if we are eating dinner over in our dining area,
we will just bring the TV closer.
The easel is on wheels,
so it is so easy to move.
I highly recommend that if you have a Samsung frame TV,
an art TV,
that you put it on an easel,
and it really adds to the effect of just the vibe.
Really your TV shouldn't be the center of the room,
so allowing it to sit on the easel
kind of like keeps it out of the way.
It's still a prominent item in our living room,
because we love watching TV and movies,
and this TV is really on all the time.
So it's weird that there's art being shown right now,
because I'm constantly watching TV 24-7.
But what are you going to do?
When you have Homeworthy come,
you've got to put some art on the TV.
My boyfriend and I,
we love greenery,
we love plants.
A lot of interior designers disagree on this,
but I say you can 100% have faux plants,
fake plants,
fake flowers in your home.
I'm not going to go out every single week
and purchase new florals.
And like florals,
especially fake florals,
have come such a long way over the years.
So these are fake.
Those are fake.
But like what's great about them
is I never need to replace them, right?
You buy them once,
and then they're good forever.
This tree looks so real.
It is not real,
but it looks amazing.
It's beautiful.
It's a great way to help divide the space.
But now I'm going to show you our balcony,
which yes,
there are real plants and flowers on our balcony.
So this has to be my favorite space in the apartment,
is our balcony.
We eat dinner out here
almost every single night when it is warm out.
The floor has to be my favorite part.
It is just tile and faux turf.
So obviously this is not real grass.
But the florals out here and the plants,
all real.
This is a real fruit tree.
We just got this a few weeks ago.
But so far my boyfriend,
he's been making us so much juice
with this citrus tree.
And it's just beautiful.
We also have a grow light up there.
Because this is a north-facing balcony,
it is kind of difficult to grow plants and flowers
because the sun doesn't really hit this balcony
during the day.
So we have a grow light here.
And then of course my favorite part
is we have a grill out here.
And we are actually not allowed
to have a flame grill.
But this doesn't.
It's electric.
It doesn't require a flame.
So we are allowed to have this grill out here.
It is perfect for grilling summer nights.
We are such grillers.
Or more.
My boyfriend is a griller.
I don't even know how to turn this thing on.
He cooks.
I decorate.
I design.
But really this has to be
my favorite place in the apartment.
It's just.
This is like my safe space.
And I'm so glad that we do have outdoor space.
Especially being in New York.
And that view is gorgeous at night.
Especially because the sun goes down
this direction.
This is west.
So the view we get here at sunset
is just absolutely amazing.
It is so beautiful.
I just feel so much peace when I'm out here.
Sometimes I'll work out here too.
When it is not allergy season.
Because right now.
Very nasally.
It's a rough season for us allergy goers.
If you live in a smaller space
in a city apartment.
Don't underestimate the value
of hiding things behind your curtains.
So here we have all of my dog's toys
that I hide behind our curtains.
Sometimes he's taking a toy out right now.
He does not respect filming sessions.
And then I keep extra throw blankets here.
A bunch of stuff for the balcony.
Like the remote for all of the balcony lights.
So don't underestimate the power
of hiding things behind your curtains.
Because I have something hidden
behind every single one of my curtains
in this apartment.
I moved to New York City
a week after graduating college.
I graduated college in 2015.
I actually used to be a TV producer.
So I graduated college.
Started working in the ABC newsroom.
On 66th street in New York.
As much as I loved TV.
And I loved producing.
I loved editing.
Something still didn't feel right.
Like I wasn't creatively fulfilled.
So on the side.
I would always decorate
my friend's apartments.
I had a interior design blog.
And that ended up getting picked up
More people started reading it.
That's when I got my first book deal.
Back in 2020.
Rental style.
It's funny when I look back on that book now.
I don't really like it.
But I think that happens
with all creatives and all artists.
That's when I quit TV producing.
And I really started doing design full time.
And it's interesting.
Because I had my first book come out.
Then my second book came out in 2023.
I feel like the problem
with interior design now.
Is everyone wants to copy everyone else.
And the last 20 something years or so.
People started throwing out
their parents and their grandparents'
hand-me-downs.
Those hand-me-down pieces of furniture.
Family heirlooms.
Because we live in such a digital age.
There isn't as strong of a connection
with the things that make a home a home.
And I said oh my gosh.
Everyone is a carbon copy
of what you find on Pinterest.
Everyone is throwing out
the things that actually matter in their homes.
That's when I started my product line.
Curio Boulevard.
And it's meaningful home goods and keepsakes.
And when you ask well what makes it meaningful.
It really takes in the heart of
why I love decorating homes.
Which is having a home represent you.
And represent the person
that lives inside of the home.
Now we are heading into our
beautiful office meets guest room.
So when you walk into this office.
We have storage up here.
But this is actually a Murphy bed for guests.
So we keep all of our guest linens in here.
And we just like have a really cute nice setup
for when guests come.
This is a full size bed.
So two people can really snuggle
and feel comfortable fit right in.
And this was just the best option in this space.
So we could really utilize it mostly as an office.
This is our office setup right here.
There's really nothing special about it.
We have the monitor.
Which is mostly for my boyfriend.
Because he loves a double screen.
I don't need a double screen.
But it's white.
So it matches the aesthetic.
This also can be used as a TV.
It also comes with a remote.
As Netflix.
As HBO.
Has whatever you want on it.
So that when a guest does come to stay.
We just twist the monitor around.
And then someone can use it as an actual TV.
Whenever they stay over.
Then I installed these floating shelves.
When I first moved in.
Which I just love these so much.
I love everything that I have on these shelves.
A lot of this are things that I've collected over the years.
Or my books that I've released.
Or my products that I've released.
So this shelving unit is really special to me.
And I just like love every single time I walk into this space.
Because it's the first thing you see
When you walk into the office.
And it just makes me so happy.
This full length mirror.
There's really nothing special about it.
So I got this at Home Goods.
Funny enough.
And I got it.
Because we needed to cover up temporarily.
The old doorway that went into the kitchen.
So this actually used to be a dining room.
Back in the 1970s.
And previous tenants.
Instead of properly filling in the gap.
And filling in the doorway.
They kind of just like left the doorway here.
So right now this leaning mirror.
Is just hiding the doorway.
And then of course.
We also store things.
Behind all of our leaning mirrors.
In my apartment.
This has outdoor chairs.
Which we bring to the roof.
Whenever we want to lay out.
But yeah.
Leaning mirror is also really good for storage.
And also really good at hiding.
Doorways that don't work anymore.
So this is my infamous wall of art.
Or you might know me from Pinterest.
Because a few years ago.
One of my DIYs went viral.
Which is layering artwork.
Which I still do in every single home.
I have ever lived in.
You can see here.
I layer artwork.
Just by using different size nails.
It's a really fun way to add more character.
And dimension into a space.
Again.
All of this artwork.
Is not something that I collected.
In just one trip.
These are art pieces.
That I have collected over the years.
They are all real paintings.
I just love them so much.
Which is why I have them all layered here.
I love that.
This is the first thing you see.
When you walk into the apartment.
The doorway is over there.
This wall is here.
So really.
It's so special.
That this is the first thing you see.
Also here.
You can see I have artwork.
Hanging on a chain.
This is just a fun DIY.
I thought of when I was at Home Depot.
You can get these chains.
For a few cents.
At Home Depot.
Like it's less than a dollar.
You hang it on your wall.
And you hang some artwork from it.
It's like the coolest feature statement.
And I swear.
This is like.
One of the most talked about features.
In my apartment.
And it's so funny.
Because this was.
Less than a dollar to do.
All of these paintings.
Are.
It's all artwork.
That I fell in love with.
When I was thrifting.
Or when I was at the flea market.
Or.
You know.
Just from my travels.
Sometimes when I travel.
And I find artwork that I love.
I'll just ship it back.
To.
My home.
And then.
We are going to.
Arrive.
At this secretary desk.
Which is our bar.
And see here.
I have a.
Few glasses.
Which some of this was passed down.
From my grandparents.
Some of this glass.
Where I thrifted.
Over the years.
Again.
A home should always be collected.
And not curated.
That is so important.
When hosting in a small space.
You have to utilize.
Every single surface.
You can possibly utilize.
This is our dining area.
Which I know I spoke a little about before.
Because whenever we eat here.
Which we don't normally sit on these chairs.
Unless we have people over.
Because four people can comfortably sit.
At this table.
My boyfriend and I.
We will sit here.
At this banquet.
And we will bring the TV.
Just a little bit forward.
So that while we're eating dinner.
We can watch TV.
I know.
We are that couple.
But it's okay.
Because we're okay with it.
I hang my bags.
From these chairs.
I brought these chairs over.
From my last apartment.
Guys.
Reuse things.
You don't need to go out.
And buy all new things.
When you move into a new home.
Which it's very common.
In New York City.
To have to move every year.
Every two years.
Every three years.
Reuse items.
It's okay to do that.
This dining table.
I actually bought.
From a cafe in Brooklyn.
That was closing down.
So.
This is really special to me.
Because this is an actual.
Cafe table.
And it just matches.
So perfectly in here.
This banquet.
I got from Crate and Barrel.
Because I knew I wanted to do.
Banquet seating.
Especially because my boyfriend and I.
We always love watching TV.
When we eat.
So we eat here.
And when we have guests over.
This table comfortably fits four.
So we have one person here.
One person here.
Two people at the banquet.
And it fits people nicely.
This is my favorite item.
In this home.
This is also the first item.
That ever ended up in this apartment.
I moved this in.
Before anything else was moved in.
So I purchased this.
From a vintage reseller.
Back in I think 2023.
I was still living in my old apartment.
When I purchased this.
I ended up keeping this in storage.
For like a year.
Until I got this apartment.
So pretty much.
I keep all of like.
My entryway necessities in here.
I keep command hooks in here.
I keep his harness.
His leash.
I keep extra candles in here.
I keep winter things in here.
Such a good use of storage.
But it's also so beautiful.
Like I've never seen this before.
So this is something.
I am always going to have.
You could offer me a million dollars.
And I would not sell this to you.
That's how much I love it.
This is what I'm talking about.
When I mean.
Decorate with your family heirlooms.
So this is a photo.
Of my grandparents at their wedding.
But then.
You know you could also display.
And decorate with letters too.
So my grandmother.
On my dad's side.
She wrote me a few letters.
Before she passed.
So I have one framed.
Right here.
And again like.
It's so meaningful.
It's so personal.
You know.
This isn't just artwork.
Or decor that I picked up.
In one weekend.
This means something.
This represents me.
So design your home.
With things that mean something to you.
And again like.
I did the same chain thing.
I went to Home Depot.
Got this chain for 50 cents.
And I hung these frames on them.
And it just becomes like.
This cool feature statement.
Again.
It's something that everyone sees.
The second that they walk into my home.
Which I think is really special.
If you're familiar with my last apartment.
I've always been into a plaster finish.
I've always been into a lime wash finish.
So in my last apartment.
I actually created this DIY.
Renter friendly lime wash.
Where I got lime wash wallpaper.
And then on top of it.
I spackled.
And then on top of the spackle.
I painted.
To create that lime wash feel.
And then when I moved into this apartment.
I realized.
Oh my gosh.
Like I own this apartment now.
I can actually lime wash it.
I use Neoded.
Which is a way easier lime wash to use.
You don't have to mix it with water.
It's ready to go.
That was what saved me.
Right.
It was actually pretty simple.
To lime wash every single room.
In this apartment.
My boyfriend and I.
Did some areas of the home.
We also hired our painter.
To do it when we were lazy.
But pretty much every single room.
In this apartment is lime wash.
And I really just love a lime wash.
I love the finish of it.
I love that organic texture.
That organic feel.
It gives the space.
So very happy with the lime wash.
And we also did the ceiling.
In the living room.
The bedroom and the office.
Still has popcorn ceiling.
Which that is another DIY.
We still need to work on.
But for now at least.
The living room ceiling is lime wash.
Everything that I have in my home.
Is very specific.
And I'll never just.
Incorporate something into my space.
Because I think it looks pretty.
There's a difference between.
A home that's curated.
And a home that's collected.
And my home is collected.
A lot of the things I have.
In my apartment.
They are things that I had.
In my last apartment.
And then the apartment before that.
And if I do buy anything new.
It has to have a purpose.
Which is like the entire mission.
And heart of my home decor brand.
So everything in my home.
Has either been thrifted.
Even this tray on my sofa.
Which I also thrifted last year.
And we use it just for the remote.
So again like everything.
We bring into the home.
Has to have a purpose.
Or potentially it was gifted to me.
Or potentially you know.
I found something on Facebook Marketplace.
That was such a steal.
Every single painting in my apartment.
Is an actual painting.
It is not a print.
It's either a reproduction painting.
Or an original painting.
And these are all paintings.
That I have collected over the years.
We're talking about a span of 10 years.
So again it goes back to the point.
Of a home should be collected.
Not curated.
Because curated homes.
Are going to feel not complete.
Something's always going to feel off.
A home again should be collected over time.
I think that's what makes a home so beautiful.
And so unique to the person.
That lives in it.
This is my entryway.
My very small entryway.
A fun story about these.
Is that I have a weird cool hobby.
And I go to the flea market.
Every single weekend.
Every single Saturday and Sunday.
And I will find lost family heirlooms.
So things that are 100.
150 years old.
With identifying marks.
So old love letters.
Jewelry.
Artwork.
Diaries.
You name it.
These are love letters.
And I was unfortunately.
Never able to find the family.
But they were just so special.
And so beautiful.
That I decided to frame them.
So I love looking at them.
Whenever I come into my apartment.
Then over here.
We have what I call.
My miscellaneous cabinet.
So in this drawer.
Which I am not going to show you.
Is a mish-posh of random things.
Where I just don't know where to put them.
So this is my gumball machine.
And my boyfriend and I.
We found this when we were thrifting last year.
We immediately fell in love.
And we love grabbing a gumball to go.
Whenever we leave the apartment.
And I can show you how it works right now.
This is a fully functioning gumball machine.
So we keep dimes here.
Because that is literally the only way.
You can get out a gumball.
So you pop in the dime.
And now you have a gumball.
So this right here.
Is my purse restock station.
This is actually called the keepsake case.
Which is our most popular product.
That we sell at Curio Boulevard.
It's really designed to be a keepsake case.
But it has this beautiful top tray on top.
So I keep it in the entryway.
With grab and go things.
And then inside are.
It's more hand sani.
Breath mints.
Breath spray.
Lip gloss.
Anything that I'm going to put into my purse.
To grab and go.
So we always keep this in the entryway.
And then this is.
Really my miscellaneous cabinet.
Like anything that doesn't have a dedicated space in the apartment.
Goes into this cabinet.
And I really do think.
Everyone should have some type of miscellaneous drawer.
That way you're not going to have like.
Mosh posh.
And miscellaneous tchotchkes.
All over the apartment.
As you can tell in my apartment.
I love mixing modern.
Contemporary and antiques.
So this is very modern.
Very sculptural.
I always need a mirror.
Some type of mirror in my entryway.
So I can like look at myself.
Before I go.
So yeah.
This is my entryway mirror.
This is my entryway set up.
My bathroom is probably.
The most talked about space in my apartment.
And I'm going to show you why.
You can see.
I also did lime wash.
This bathroom.
We completely gut it.
And I thought.
Go bold or go home.
So I thought red and pink.
Why not do this in this space.
This sink.
Custom made.
And you might look at this sink.
And think oh my gosh.
That must have been like.
Fifteen thousand dollars.
To fabricate.
But it was not.
I found a Turkish fabricator on Etsy.
I drew out a design for him.
He made the sink.
And shipped it to me.
So.
I'm going to try.
And think of everything.
I could possibly do.
To always bring the sink.
To every single home.
I move into.
But I don't know.
If that's feasible.
Or possible.
This is also.
A medicine cabinet.
For extra storage.
Because of course.
When I did the floating sink.
I opted out of.
Storage.
Cabinet storage.
So.
You gotta do.
What you gotta do.
I also love this floating sink.
Because it does visually.
Make the bathroom.
Look.
Larger.
Because of the empty space.
Under the sink.
I also added.
These scallops.
Here.
On the backsplash.
And.
On the actual sink.
I wanted it to parallel.
The keepsake case.
Which is.
My most popular product.
That I sell.
And then.
Our shower.
Which I love.
Um.
Truthfully.
I just.
I love everything.
About this bathroom.
I feel so relaxed.
When I'm in here.
I'm so glad.
I went bold.
I'm so glad.
I did.
The red meets pink.
I am so glad.
I color drenched.
The ceiling too.
Which I wasn't sure.
If I wanted to do that.
At first.
But now.
I'm so glad.
I did it.
I just got.
This little stool.
Off of Amazon.
Um.
I needed a place.
To pop my leg.
When I was shaving.
I realized.
That was probably.
One mistake.
I made.
When renovating.
This bathroom.
Was not putting.
Some kind of.
Corner.
Installing some sort of.
Corner bench.
But.
This is fine.
I got this off of Amazon.
For like 100 bucks.
And it works out perfectly.
We have our rain shower.
And.
I love being in here.
It's so relaxing.
And it's so beautiful.
And again.
Probably like.
My most talked about space.
In the apartment.
Now let's go into my bedroom.
I added some hidden hooks here.
So when guests come.
They can just pop their bags.
Or their coats.
When you walk.
Into my bedroom.
This is probably.
The space I've done.
The least with.
So far.
In my apartment.
Like pretty much.
Everything.
In this room.
Came from my last home.
I really haven't done much with this.
These black bars.
Are actually like.
Hanging clothing racks.
So I bought these off of Amazon.
And then I went to a local fabric store.
To get some linen.
And I kind of created this.
Makeshift canopy.
Which I love.
This.
Bed cover.
I actually sell this.
So I said before.
That I have a home goods.
And meaningful keepsake line.
And what's interesting.
About my brand.
Is aside from home decor.
Enthusiasts that purchase my products.
I realized.
I had so many customers.
Navigating grief loss.
Or illness themselves.
Purchasing my products.
And I realized like.
Oh my gosh.
I have a chronic illness.
I have Lyme disease.
And so I thought.
Why not make products.
That work for people.
Who are sick.
Who have chronic illnesses.
Who might have to spend.
All day in bed.
Because some days.
I do have to spend.
All day in bed.
Unfortunately.
Like when you do have.
A chronic illness.
That's common.
So we just released.
A line of clean bedding.
That 100% works for people.
Who have chronic illnesses.
Who may have cancer.
We designed the bedding.
Around someone.
That has to spend.
All day in bed.
So this beautiful bed cover.
It is made out of.
100% organic bamboo.
It has every type of ethical.
And environmental certification.
You can possibly think of.
And it's just gorgeous.
It pools on the floor.
It adds a luxe vibe.
To your space.
So this is the bedding.
That I keep in my bedroom.
Over here.
We have my dresser.
I just took this.
From my last apartment.
There's really nothing.
Special or crazy about it.
This is another.
Samsung frame TV.
That I keep artwork on.
And of course.
This is another version.
Of the keepsake case.
This is the keepsake case.
Addition 2.
And what makes this special.
Is that it has.
A removable top tray.
That you can display.
Anywhere in your home.
So although this is the space.
That I've probably done the least to.
We have these.
Enormously ugly AC units.
In every single room.
Of this apartment.
So I was trying to think of.
What can I do to hide it.
Or minimize.
The ugliness of them.
So we got these.
Metal bars.
From Amazon.
And I added some fabric.
On top of it.
And it kind of.
Hides it just a little.
So highly recommend.
You try this out.
If you have something similar.
In your city apartment too.
Over here.
This is my.
Boyfriend's dresser.
His side of the room.
We have his watch box here.
This artwork I thrifted.
A few years ago.
I love it.
Again.
It was really important for me.
To reuse as much.
As I possibly could.
From previous apartments.
From previous homes.
So really this entire room.
Is just reused and rethrifted.
This is also a great hack.
I thrifted this book.
Like when I first moved to New York.
Probably in 2015.
I love it.
So I was thinking like.
How can I display it.
Display it on an easel.
I got this art easel.
From Amazon.
And I've always displayed.
This book on an easel.
So another fun hack.
And a fun way to add more character.
In depth to your space.
My third book.
Make Yourself at Home.
Is releasing June 2025.
And it is all about.
How to decorate.
And design a beautiful home.
Using items you already have.
Family heirlooms and antiques.
And I'm very excited about it.
Because the book proves my point.
That the most beautiful homes.
Are not curated.
But they're collected.
We are about a step foot.
Into my kitchen.
So before we go into my kitchen.
Before I moved in.
I knew I wanted a marble archway.
Somewhere in my apartment.
And so this doorway.
Actually used to be very tiny.
Very small.
I wanted some of that western light.
To flow into the living room.
So we widened the archway.
We added this marble archway.
Really cool about this marble arch.
It looks like it would be super expensive.
To fabricate, right?
Because normally when people.
Do these marble arches in their home.
They use a full slab.
But I did not have the money.
To do a full slab.
So what we did was.
We fabricated it out of.
Small pieces of tile.
Which you can't tell.
You cannot tell this is fabricated.
Out of smaller pieces of tile.
So it looks like it is all one slab.
Now when you walk into my kitchen.
This is the space.
We also have not touched.
We have not renovated yet.
So everything we've done in here.
Has been essentially renter friendly.
So the floors.
The floors are peel and stick tile.
The countertops.
The countertops are peel and stick contact paper.
Even the backsplash tile.
Is also peel and stick.
Really?
We just haven't had the time.
To renovate anything yet.
So this buffet is very special.
I got this off of Cherish.
Years ago.
So this actually used to be my dresser.
In my last apartment.
And it just like worked out.
That it fit so perfectly.
In the kitchen.
So we use it to store.
Our kitchen supplies.
And it's great.
Work space.
Real marble.
I thrifted this too.
When I was in Canada.
So again.
Getting this over the border.
Was.
A very difficult process.
But again.
All of this.
Everything on here.
We use.
Especially.
On this first shelf.
Everything on here.
Is either something.
That was passed down.
Either from my.
Boyfriend's parents.
Or grandparents.
Or my parents.
And grandparents.
Or things we've thrifted.
Over the years.
I am more of a couch eater.
Aside from.
When we are having dinner.
At the dining table.
I pretty much eat.
Every single meal on the couch.
So what I do.
Is I take this top tray off.
I put my food on it.
I bring it to the sofa.
And we keep spices in here.
It's just.
Again.
These boxes.
They come in handy.
Home means.
A space that represents.
People that live inside it.
Home is not.
A duplicate.
Or a carbon copy.
Of someone else's home.
It's not.
A carbon copy.
Of an image.
You see on Pinterest.
On Instagram.
On TikTok.
Home should always.
Represent the person.
Who lives inside it.
Your home.
Should be unique to you.
And most importantly.
Your home.
Should be collected.
Not curated.
