The time has come for Lil' Dork to move on from her Honda CRF110F. Now that she's 13, she's really outgrown the 110. It was an excellent first dirt bike for her, but her skills (and her) have grown and she's ready to move up to a bigger, more capable motorcycle. Before we let it go, though, she wanted to get out for one final father/daughter dual sport adventure: her on the Honda CRF110F and me on my Suzuki DRZ400S. This was a fantastic adventure. We rode our dual sport motorcycles up into a literal cloud, explored a great dispersed camping site near a beaver pond deep in the woods, played around in the mud a bit (including a fully-grown man riding the little 110F), climbed to the top of a mountain to check out some amazing scenery and beautiful views of the cascade mountains, and totally redeemed ourselves by venturing back up to the scenic overlook that had limited visibility earlier in the day.
And it's her farewell ride to her CRF-110.
We're literally in a cloud.
Kinda cool.
That sounded like you slapped someone.
Holy crap, dude.
Thanks.
This is what we were missing earlier when we were in the cloud.
Hello, everyone.
Welcome back to the Dorkside.
I'm the Dork of the Road and today,
Lil Dork and I are going riding
and it's her farewell ride to her CRF-110.
What's his name?
Rodrigo.
His name is Rodrigo.
That's right, everyone.
I am the Dork of the Road and I want to be your internet riding buddy.
And I'm better than your regular riding buddies
because I'm available whenever you want.
And I come with a mute button.
So, please consider subscribing.
Don't forget to turn on those notifications
so that you know when I post awesome content just like this.
So, Lil Dork, tell me.
How do you feel?
I feel a tiny bit like my knees are too close to my chest.
Yeah, that bike is far too small for you.
You've accepted that you've outgrown it.
You can see this 110 is way too small.
This kid has grown like seriously 6 inches, 8 inches in the last year.
So, it barely fit her once you got it and it's way too small now.
So, we're about to pass it on to a new happy family owner.
She wanted to ride it one more time.
I feel like you're going to be uncomfortable today.
You're going to really realize that it's time.
So, what are you going to ride when this is gone?
250L.
She's going to ride my 250L.
She's been practicing.
What does this bike mean to you?
Alright, you're going to lead the way today.
Set the pace.
And I'm, of course, on Darth here, my new DRZ.
So, because I got the DRZ, the 250L is up for grabs and she's ready to jump onto it.
So, we're up near Trout Creek.
We're going to try to go up to that overlook that you've seen in the Africa Twins video
and then maybe up to Mount Dork.
We'll see with the road how clear it is.
And I'm sure the snow's gone by now.
Last time I tried to go up there, there was trees we couldn't get around.
Are you ready?
Are you stoked?
Alright, let's see how stoked you are.
Enjoy every minute.
Savor it.
Cherish it.
You got to cherish it.
The river looks good today.
Yeah, not crazy like it was when we were camping a couple weeks ago.
Oh, you're hauling ass.
So, we've had this motorcycle.
We got it last summer, right?
So, you've only had it for a year?
Because after sixth grade, yeah, you got straight A's.
So, she earned this bike getting straight A's her first year of middle school.
And then, so she's had it for a year.
And like I said, it fit mostly when she got it, but definitely too small now.
So, she's learning to shift.
She's been practicing.
You may have seen my stories.
She's feeling like she's ready to move up to the bigger bike.
Man, you are hitting me with a lot of rocks.
Look at you taking the crazy stuff.
That's a duck.
No, that's like a pheasant.
Yeah, that was really close.
I don't think it's, maybe a grouse.
Supposedly, pheasants are pretty hard to find up here.
I thought it was a duck at first.
It looked like a duck, same coloring.
But what the hell would a duck be doing up here?
It's got to be a grouse.
Well, it was dumb.
It was trying to get in front of you.
It's like, go the other way, bro.
You'll be a lot safer.
Whoa, way to avoid that stick.
These big potholes are fun to try to launch over on this bike.
Well, we're up in the cloud, so we're not going to, geez, it might even be,
might not even be worth going to that viewpoint if we're going to be in the cloud
when we get up there.
The climb is fun, though, so what the hell?
There, I caught up and over it.
Got the front end up a little.
Second gear is a lot better for that.
The big rhododendrons that bloom up here.
All over, they're huge.
They're like up on the hill.
This is all rhododendron.
It's huge up here.
That one in our yard, not quite this big.
Somebody keeps trimming it back.
I caught a glimpse of it.
Oh, there it is.
Yeah, that's like, might be an owl or something.
He went left.
I've chased an owl up here for a ways, which is weird.
It's weird to see him during the day, but that was a big one.
Yeah, they've cleared a lot of this.
That's good.
Right, well, sometimes it's not the Forest Service clearing trees.
It's just random people.
Yeah, sketchy.
Might be our turn.
I think it is.
I think we're going right here.
Yep, this is it.
Awesome.
That's easy to find.
Well, you can lean it.
Oh, okay.
That was a wheelie.
That was a wheelie a little bit.
That was wheelie high.
Yeah.
Yep, lucky us.
Oh, yeah, you got a stick stuck in here.
I mean, you probably should get it out.
Yeah, it's behind your right foot.
Probably lift your right.
Oh, it's gone now.
You just cleared it.
Good job.
Yeah, it was wedged behind your foot through the swing arm.
There's one.
You're gonna have to go over it.
No choice.
Gotta go over it.
Nobody's business.
Oh, yeah, you're not gonna be able to see from up there.
We are definitely in the cloud.
This is a big clearing and then, well, it's up to you.
Do you want, we could still ride up there if you want to see the climb,
but I don't think we're gonna be able to see anything off the edge
because it's gonna be like this.
That's neutral.
Yeah, visibility is very low.
We are, I mean, I can't see it 50 feet.
That's, wow, we are so in a cloud right now.
I'm not being metaphorical.
It's a literal cloud.
So what do you want to do?
I'd like to see what it looks like.
Okay, it's a little bit of a climb, but you're just gonna,
you're just gonna keep going, keep your momentum up
and it's levels out really easy at the top.
So no big deal.
You want to go in front of me or you want to follow me?
Okay, I won't be able to see you if you crash.
You just have to say something.
You don't always say something.
You with me?
Here's the climb.
Can't even hardly see it.
You just have to trust me.
All right, I'll see you at the top.
It's not super steep, even slow and steady.
You're gonna be a little bouncy is all.
That's a lot easier on dual sports than it is on the twin.
You're good. You made it.
Good job.
Yeah, I told you it's not crazy.
Oh, someone built a fire pit up here.
Cool.
Yeah, I would stay away from the edge.
But this is, believe it or not, an amazing view.
But today it's just cloud. Just cloud everybody.
Everybody. Man, I mean it is.
I can't see. Seriously right here.
You can't see anything. Maybe 50 feet.
If that. I'll give you a little look around.
It's kind of crazy.
This is our viewpoint spot from the Africa Twins video.
It's very quiet because we're literally in a cloud.
Well, my hope is because if we go up to the mountain,
it's a lot taller than this.
We might be able to get above all this.
And then we'll just be looking out over a sea of clouds,
which will be funny.
Damn it. That's too bad.
So all that stuff I just said.
So it's interesting trying to get up to the overlook when you're just inside a cloud.
It's not much of an overlook today, but very beautiful view from up there.
It's like we're coming down out of the cloud now,
but we're going to try to head back up on this other side of this clearing.
Little dork just splashed through a huge bottle,
but I forgot to turn the camera on.
There is a decent view. That's good.
I look below the cloud over here.
It's going to burn off today.
I think. It's supposed to get a lot warmer later today.
Here's some decent viewage for you.
Yeah, so this is the view we were trying to see,
but up there you can see right over there.
That's where we were. You're in the cloud,
but pretty good view of this Canyon.
Whoa.
Don't do that. Don't run into the tree.
Like I said, it gets a little bit more interesting.
There's one. Nutty stuff.
Yeah, this is fun section.
I hate riding over trees on purpose.
I see what you're doing. There's a muddy section.
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It's a little muddy.
Just keep going. Let's keep the throttle moving.
Oh, man, you didn't even throw any mud. That's boring.
I was going to get some good video.
To be honest, I almost dropped the twin in there when I was up here.
Whoa.
Oh, that's a big dip right there.
Yeah, it's a little technical, right? A little funky in here.
Mostly out of it now.
Good times. That's fun riding, right?
Now you're hitting branches. He's riding over trees on purpose.
Low bridge. Did you just duck?
That's like three feet above your head.
Ha, ha, ha.
Going to take a left.
Muddiness. Branchiness. That's pretty.
Yeah, it's clearing up some.
Here's some viewage. Taking this left.
Ah, awesome.
There you go.
Oh, you're hitting me with rocks.
That cool marsh is right up here on the left.
Oh, it's all overgrown. Can't hardly tell.
Yeah, it's nice. It's pretty.
Pretty cool, man.
Yeah, we're out of the clouds. We're going to have a good view.
It might even be clear down there when we come back.
Do you want to stop at that beaver pond and look at it?
Okay, so that's probably a mile or two and then
good old Dork Mountains about a mile, mile and a half past that.
Someone like me?
That's the most fun.
It's a good view off to your right, but...
This hillside is cool, too, usually.
Yeah, it is. It's a great day.
Nice view off to the right here, too.
Nice view off to the right.
No, take this right so we can go look at the pond.
Let's go see if anyone's camping down there.
Here it is.
Hey, hey. Where the hell are you going?
This is the spot.
There's a cool mud puddle. Oh, it's all dry.
A little mud. Get some mud. Goose it.
Aw, man. Chickened out on me.
Wow, this is much, much fuller right now.
That's good mud right there.
All right, a little soon to get some muddy action in.
Get in there and give it a little twist.
You've got to turn.
I forgot how to steer.
I like this spot. I wouldn't mind camping here.
Here she comes.
We'll turn then.
Ugh, muddy. Why are you putting your feet down? Use the brake.
I don't know.
I can. I don't want to get all muddy.
I might. I might do that.
We'll set the camera up maybe before we leave.
I just want to show off the pond a little bit before I take my helmet off.
We've been here in the winter, in the fall, but
not right now.
This is early summer.
There's a little trail that goes around the edge.
Kind of cool.
Neat little spot.
Although I imagine skiers get pretty bad right here.
There's a beaver lodge over there.
I don't know if there's beavers actively in here,
but this is the beaver pond because there's a dam on the side.
You probably can't hear me because the mic sucks.
Lil wants me to ride through this mud
so when I fall down it's going to be a real funny video.
Real funny.
I told you.
It sounds like you slapped someone.
I also want to see how these
trackmasters do in shitty mud.
This will be interesting.
I'm going to get my bike muddy.
It is hard to turn in there.
Oh, oh, you ok?
Alright, good.
We'll sell it to McLevin
before we show him that footage.
I think I got that.
That's pretty funny.
It's a little muddy now.
You wanted to ride through the mud?
That's funny.
Your knee's probably muddy too.
That's why you're wearing knee pads.
You had to fall off it at least one more time.
Go the other way.
That'll make a lot more sense.
This is fun. This is real soft stuff.
You alright? What are you doing?
This was nice when we got here.
Did you bend it?
It's flat and I just broke
that thing.
That's totally fine.
You were good?
Should we go up to the top?
Yeah, it was.
Look at all the mud going off.
This is good footage.
I'm doing the same over here.
That's funny.
Is that funny?
No, not really.
That's right up here around the corner.
Yeah, there's the road.
Alright, we're headed up.
This is the road to Dork Mountain.
I haven't been up here since
last, I think November.
There you go, you're getting it.
There you go.
Standing up is awesome.
Sometimes you have to.
Sometimes a bike should stand up.
Go right.
Actually, I don't know
if I've been down that one.
There's one I have.
Careful, careful.
You're good.
Try not to stop.
Now we're stuck on this hill.
This has cleared up a lot.
It's going to be a great view.
Now you're crushing it.
The other bike does so much better
on stuff like this. Bigger tire.
More traction.
More torque. More power.
More suspension travel.
Wow, it's pretty rough over here.
You got it. You got this.
She's wearing leggings, by the way.
Those aren't her underwear sticking out of her butt.
You got it.
Just roll.
Let it roll. There you go.
That was the hardest part.
You're a natural, I'm telling you.
You hit a branch.
There's a tree there.
You weren't sure.
There's a bush there.
Wow.
Yeah, it cleared up alright.
Look at the three sisters.
Holy crap, dude.
Yeah, this is amazing.
Right here.
Wow.
Pretty cool.
Look at you guys.
The view, but it is so amazing up here.
If we ever do a dork rally,
we're definitely coming up here.
That is Mount Jefferson.
That's Mount Washington.
Three sisters.
That's Broken Top, I think.
Oh, that's Three Finger Jack.
That's Jefferson.
The other side is not terrible, either.
It's just not the Cascades, but quite a view.
Quite a view from up here.
This is it.
I always say when I come up here,
this is why I got into dual sport.
Stuff like this.
It's hot up here, though.
That's one thing I don't like.
It's pretty warm.
I think there's a spot you can sit right over there.
I'm hot.
We need to start moving.
Downhill is easy.
Gravity does all the work.
Keep your bike pointed down the hill.
Gravity does the rest.
We are headed back down,
but we're going to go check out the overlook again
because I bet it's cleared up some.
And Lil still hasn't seen that view.
We're going to go back down that way.
But first, the steep hill.
There you go.
Just use your rear.
This is the hardest part.
It's over.
You did it.
There you go.
It's rolling over.
No big deal.
It's beautiful.
I'm going to stop and get it on the camera.
Three sisters directly ahead.
Very gorgeous view.
Lil's about to destroy this mountain.
There's the other sister.
Oh, there's somebody.
That car wasn't there a minute ago.
Are they hiking somewhere?
That's interesting.
Have to be.
Unless they're shroom hunting,
there's no other reason to be up here.
See, that just goes to show
you've got to take it easy on the roads
because I would not have expected
to see a car up here.
Alright, we're headed back down
the way we came up
so we can cut over to the overlook.
Ah, airflow, that's much better.
Well, how do you feel?
You're now headed down on your last ride.
You're over halfway done
with your last ride on your 110.
How does it feel?
It's bittersweet.
End of an era.
But that's good.
Think of all the adventures ahead.
It wouldn't be ahead if you'd never had this bike.
Oh.
It's not terrible, huh?
We don't have to stop.
It would be fun to stop at the thanks sign.
Oh, it says help on this side.
Maybe that's why it says thanks on the back.
One side says help prevent forest fires
and the other side says thanks.
Come back and see the thanks.
It's even got numbers on it.
The sign just says thanks.
Apparently they put signs on it
so just in general it's thanks.
The other side has something on it
which I haven't seen in a long time.
This side just says thanks.
Anyway, that's the infamous thanks sign.
Cool rock face.
I'm taking the side path.
It's not too late.
Just turn around and come back up it.
I'll follow you.
Then we'll just turn left at the top and come back.
Going up is more fun anyway
because there's a little hill climb at the end.
A little putt putt.
Yeah, hopefully no cars are coming.
Why don't you just turn? Why are you stopping?
Now you're turning.
Back to the clear cut.
We're going up on that ridge.
Lots of fun.
Little obstacles on this road.
498.7 under view this time.
Because the cloud that was right here is no more.
You can actually see the climb this time.
It's not that bad.
You can remember from coming down it's not that bad.
The tire spin.
There you go.
Traction.
Don't go off the edge.
That's not as fun.
Yeah, this is what we were missing earlier
when we were in the cloud.
You guys see this?
Not terrible.
Definitely looks different.
You can see the lake.
Foster Lake.
That's Foster Lake.
Alright, we're going to head down the mountain.
Quite a difference from when we were here before.
499.9.
Can you see that?
We're going to hit it going down this hill.
Not a bad spot to hit 500 if you ask me.
Not a bad spot.
Don't go off the cliff.
You're going to want to turn left.
Not right. Don't turn right.
It's a joke. I'm kidding.
Good work.
I'll try not to crash washing my odometer.
There it is! 500!
Coming down the hill.
So I hit 500 at the overlook.
That's pretty awesome.
500.
Crushing it right now, kid.
Crushing it.
Hit some rocks.
Going a lot faster though.
Sometimes you gotta.
Alright, going left.
A little bit of fun road left and then it's smooth sailing.
The whole way.
It's not a bad view over here either.
Not a bad view.
Pretty epic.
Alright, everyone.
We're going to head down the mountain.
It's pretty much smooth sailing
from here on out.
I just want to say
thank you very much for coming along.
Any final words of wisdom about
your last ride on Rodrigo?
How do you feel?
If you're ever in the same situation
have fun.
Try your hardest and make it the best ride ever.
Fall down at least once because it's fun
and memorable.
That's how you say goodbye to your first dirt bike.
Try hard. Have fun.
Fall down and just enjoy it.
I'm going to let you enjoy the rest of the ride.
I think it's been a great bike for you
but I think you're going to be happy to move on too.
Alright, y'all.
Well, that's our show.
Thank you very much for watching.
We appreciate it.
If you enjoyed this video even for a second
we were like, huh, that's kind of funny.
It would really be awesome if you could hit the like button.
Those likes really make videos more visible
and really help the channel grow.
I really appreciate your support there.
And if you want to go real crazy with your support
you can always think about
becoming a patron like these fine people.
Thanks, patrons.
But for now and as always
I just want to say thank you very much for watching
and please do not forget
to be excellent to each other.
I thank you.
Excellent!
More people.
Firewood. Rock.
Rock.
That's about four times as many people
as I ever see up here.
I guess we saw a car
and we saw two people.
Maybe three times as many people.
Although three times zero is zero.
I guess I saw you, so that's a person.
