Hello everybody, meet my father coach Igor.
My father is a coach in Ukraine, for the past 30 years have produced several junior and
cadet national team members that have represented Ukraine at the World Championships.
I live in Toronto and currently Toronto is under COVID-19 lockdown and therefore I don't
have a ton of brand new content coming in, so what I will do is I will mix in a little
bit of old footage that I have from Ukraine, sorry for not the best quality, plus I will
hope I also have some footage recorded from several past months that I will also be mixing
in as I have been the past week.
So today, as you can see, we are in my first gym where I started fencing and you can see
my father currently giving a lesson to one of his students.
What we're working on today is second intention parry riposte.
And there's going to be several key points that we need to pay attention in order to
execute this move correctly and you want to also be able to be consistent with it.
So first things first, as you will notice, is that in order to succeed at this action,
you want to take your first parry as your opponent takes a step forward.
As you can see here, my father takes a step forward and his student instantly tries to
take a parry.
Oh, parry riposte right there.
That's quite excellent timing on the hand.
So the key for execution there is that you want to take a parry one quick, but also parry
two quicker with more intention towards the target.
As you can see in the second action here, my father's student is taking parry four and
another circle four is a second intention parry.
And the times that he succeeds are the ones where he takes a parry, takes a good separation,
and one quick action does a circle four riposte into the chest.
As you noticed, there were several ones in between there where he almost took a step
back and made a stop hit.
That is not an effective way to make a parry riposte.
You want to make sure that you take your first parry and you allow for your opponent to commit
and believe that they're done.
And only when they're committed, you want to make sure you have super quick extensions.
So right here, you will see my father's student, oh, that was a mistake, that was more of a
stop hit.
That's not what you're looking for.
You want to make sure that you suck him in and quick arm riposte.
As you will see, the very last one right here is one of the better ones over here.
It's coming up and baba.
That's it.
