Where in the Cal am I? Wednesday weekend ideas. Seal Beach. I'm down here by lifeguard stand
number eight. It's the golden hour but this is a place to come if you want to get out of the heat
down here in Seal Beach. Chris Rainey and I did a segment a few months ago. Ice cream, food,
all sorts of stuff to do down here in Seal Beach. So check this out. I'm Pat Pattison and I love
California. Welcome to Pat Pattison's Best of California. Today the best of Orange County.
I'm excited to have a special guest. Hey everybody. Chris is the host of the Yellow Productions
Travel Channel on YouTube and Chris is showing me how to be awesome on YouTube. This is incredible.
So let's start out here in Seal Beach. Let's get going. All right let's go check out Seal Beach.
So Pat as we're walking the main street, shoes on or off on the beach? What do you think?
Very unusual for me to have my shoes on but usually I am barefoot everywhere. At home,
down main street, maybe flip-flops. Yeah. I've noticed you have yellow shoes also.
Yellow shoes so when I'm out shooting I can tell people just look for the guy with the yellow shoes.
Yeah. And it's weird. It works out well doesn't it? Yeah. It is a bit of a trademark. That's awesome.
So if y'all come here to Seal Beach in the summer because this beach is so wide, do bring sandals
because otherwise this sand right here can be pretty hot. He's trained up. His feet you might
not have yet. Grown up at the beach. Yeah. Yeah. Now there's something I have to tell people too.
If you're looking for seals at Seal Beach. Yeah. Are there any? Where do we find them? I have yet
to see one. Not yet. Not yet. All right. Still looking. Okay. Pat what about this seal? I found
a seal. Does he count? We found a seal at Seal Beach. There he is. There he is. He's all over
the place. But in particular this is where they post the water temperature and statistics. So
what is cold water and what's warm water? So 66 today. That's pretty warm. I'm in without a
wetsuit. It's October. It can get down into the mid 50s all the way up into the low 70s.
Best time to come probably September, October because the warm water sticks around. Yeah. So
it's a great, great place to swim. I agree. So Pat, you lived in Seal Beach for two years. Now
what brought you here? I love it because it's not very crowded. It's affordable. I can do all my
swimming and surfing activity right here. Yeah. That's awesome. And what about this guy? This guy,
local legend has it. This is Slick the Seal. And local legend has, if you rub the nose,
good luck. All right. Good luck. A million views I think is going to come to this video right now.
You gotta rub the nose. All right. So here we are on Main Street, which is kind of a cool,
funky, eclectic place. It shops restaurants three blocks from the pier to Pacific Coast Highway.
What's cool to see, do, and eat here on Main Street, Pat? A lot of places to eat. There are not
one, but four Irish pubs right in this block. Four. Four Irish pubs. I don't have any idea why.
I love this old shelf shop. One of the things, not... I just, do you think, can I hear the ocean
in the shell? In the ocean, but that's all... It's a big shell, you know? It's right there.
Six dollars. The ocean's right there. Yeah. On sale for three. The other thing, no chain stores.
Wow. Absolutely no chain stores. I don't know if that's a rule for Main Street. Not even a Starbucks?
Not even a Starbucks. Not even a McDonald's? Not even a McDonald's. No. Something smells good over here.
Let's go check it out. What's this? This is Jill's. Sweet Jill's Bakery. Incredible. With ghosts and...
Yeah. Yeah. They're especially, usually a line out here, so come early. It's a great place to get a
little breakfast muffin. I think. Yeah. Are you hungry? Yeah. I'm very hungry. I am going to show you a
place you can eat on the beach. Very few places in Southern California you can eat on the beach.
Let's go check out the Beach House. All right. Let's go.
So we're at the Beach House, right here on the beach. This place is incredible.
So I got the fish and chips. Chris, what did you get? I have the ahi poke bowl. Unbelievable. Looks
pretty good. Unbelievable. Chicken piccata. They have a great burger here. Unbelievable that you're
on the beach here in Seal Beach. There are less than a dozen of these in the whole state,
and we're happy to be here. So let's check out the food. All right. That sounds good.
I'm looking forward to see how this poke tastes, because I know the view is amazing.
Wow. How's yours? Good. Very fresh. Check out the Beach House. This is great. So we're at the Beach
House in Seal Beach. I'm with Rosie Richie, the owner. And Rosie, we had such a great lunch here.
We were super excited to have you. Thank you so much. And I'm glad that you got to
fish and chips. Each taste one of our top sellers. Big attraction is you are on the sand.
And you mentioned how many places in California get to do this. We're not even one of 12 restaurants
in the state of California. Full service on the sand. So this is a real diamond. And this is
walkable for Main Street. And I'm also impressed. There's parking here. Exactly. We have 142
parking spaces. It's $2 an hour or $10 for all day. I'm a proud Seal Beach resident. Rosie Richie,
thank you for bringing the Beach House to life. And a beautiful place to have lunch,
breakfast, or dinner. That's right. Seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Yes. Thank you. All right. Thank you so much. All right. We're back on Main Street now. We're
going to go get some ice cream. But Pat, what are some other cool places for people to check out?
Right here is McKenna's Tea House. I often see people having tea here. It's a little late now
for tea. But beautiful place. So great place to enjoy the outdoors.
Nick's Deli. Famous for the breakfast burrito. Incredible. Come early. It's crowded. But check
out the breakfast burrito. Nick's Deli. Make sure to bring cash though. Cash only. Cash.
Cash. Favorite seafood, Walt's Wharf. This place is incredible. Hidden secret upstairs. Historic.
Let's go check it out. All right. Let's go. All right. So Pat, as we come up to the second floor,
like what's this place known for? Well, it's seafood. It has been here forever. It's an
institution. And I love it. But here's a little tidbit. Back in the 20s, supposedly rum was run
out at Seal Beach. This was a dance hall and potentially, supposedly a brothel. So there's
a little bit of California history. This is where the dance hall was. Right here? Yep. Yeah. But
there were also beds in the back. This has a very like early 1900s kind of like saloon vibe.
Something I feel like out of Westworld or something like that. Very, very old building.
Yeah. Anybody that talks about Seal Beach will mention Walt's Wharf.
So my favorite Mexican food, Avalos El Ranchito. I love to have a light fare.
I go for the light enchilada. Family owned. Incredible. Thank you very much.
That's some good ice cream. This is great. This is great. What flavor you got? I got mint chocolate
chip. I've got caramel apple and butter pecan in a waffle cone. The best. The best flavor.
Brewster's is one of my favorites. Come here all the time. So Pat, thanks for showing me around
Seal Beach today. You know, what I've kind of really observed of Seal Beach is it's this like
cute, quaint beach town that's often overshadowed by Huntington Beach or Long Beach. Pacific Coast
Highway runs between the two and people tend to just skip on by Seal Beach, but I don't think you
should. You can just walk around and see it all in an afternoon. Lots to do here. Yeah. All right.
Well, Pat, thank you so much for joining me today. I'd give you a handshake, but the ice cream's running
down my hand. I know. If people want to check out your content, how do they find you? So they go to
Pat Patterson's Best of California on YouTube, bestofcal.tv, or check out it on many stations
all over the country and specifically here in California. So it's hard for me to link to his
actual TV show, but if you want to check out his YouTube channel, link's in the description below.
As usual, we won't say goodbye because we'll see you in the next video. And if you want to see more
videos from Orange County, you'll find links on the screen or Pat's going to see you over on his
channel. Take care. Thanks. Cheers. Cheers. Hope you enjoyed me showing Chris Rainey around Seal Beach.
