Our House is Done!! The Story of Building Our Dream Home.

Today is the ending to a beautiful journey. A journey that many of you have been on with us for for many many years. Before we start the next journey, we want to close the chapter on this beautiful experience we've had of building this home. Here's Ashley and I at our wedding. I don't know exactly when, but sometime during this whole newlywed phase when we were moving from tiny apartment to tiny apartment, I promised her that one day I would do everything I could to get her a real house. And she promised me she would do everything she could to make it a home with all these little kids that would soon be joining us. This girl would like a house at some point. And that is the promise that I have made to her. Promise? Yeah, you promised. So I started a smart home camera company. Camera that connects to your phone, you can see anything. Life got pretty fun. I left Amazon and started a company called Wyze. We started a YouTube channel. We were making the most of life. And then we did it. We got a house. But no matter how much fun you're having, nothing can fill the hole of not having family in your life. For Ashley, being close to her mom was what she wanted more than anything. And that led to one of the most epic surprises of all time. This is one of the most insane surprises. Those people like buy this land and put up a tent. What is happening right now? What is happening right now? Welcome home. A few acres of land in her hometown down the street from her mom and sisters. A blank canvas for Ashley to build a home where we could raise our family. The only problem was we didn't have any water. What we have to do is the only way to get water for this house would be to find it underground. Once we dig a hole, then we stick a pump down there. Oh, we started getting our water. We're pumping it out of the ground. So we picked a spot and finally got a big drilling rig to come out there and drill a well and just prayed we could find water. Water never tasted so pure. Once we had water, Ashley got to work exploring multiple designs and then finally designing the whole thing from scratch. Like that and like a fridge and wall oven. And it's completely blocked off with a door. So it takes to kind of like fill up this space, but it just kind of feels like there's a lot and plus it's tied in with the black window. James Carrick from Carrick Home Designs brought our ideas to life. Carolina was brought in as our interior designer and she ended up being Ashley's just great friend. They had so many decisions to make. Tiles, countertops, cabinetry, flooring, lighting, stone, picking out every single room. This would be so cool in the girl's bathroom. Luckily Ashley had a little sidekick. The three older kids were at school, but Millie got to tag along and be a big helper with all these decisions. I want this one. Dave Largent was brought on as our builder. Then came the big day where we put the first shovel in the ground. We got off to a bit of a rocky start. Apparently our house is going to be built on a solid rock. Like the whole wall is just one big rock. We're already over budget. Once we finally got the excavation done, month by month we got to see Ashley's vision come to life. Framing, roofing, windows, plumbing, electrical, stonework, HVAC, drywall, and then painting. With a million little details in between. Every day a little closer to making the dream a reality. It is an enormous day for us. We've been waiting for this day for five years. We are going to get a key to our house. It's really exciting. It's surreal. In the coolest room in the whole house, the double door into the studio. Today's the day we get a home again. One that was made with so much love and heart from this girl right here. Her biggest art project of all time. Are you guys ready to go into our house for the first time for the rest of your lives? But putting our family in it and the experiences we'll have and just every birthday, every holiday, you make the memories and then it becomes like really special.
