Nick Jonas pets puppies, gets arty, and builds us an ASMR soundscape in his Most Relaxing Interview Ever.
This isn't your usual celebrity interview where a star is getting grilled on who they're dating and forced to respond to online rumours. It's purely relaxation vibes allowed.
We help Nick relax by providing him with some of his favourite things, like a load of puppies, an ice-cold Margarita, and his childhood favourite snacks. On his journey to inner peace, Nick tells us his favourite ways to relax, delivers some words wisdom, and reads nursery rhymes to the cutest puppies.
The new Jonas Brothers album Greetings From Your Hometown is out 8th August.
Hello.
You know, he kind of looks like a little bit of a human face.
Not in like a weird way, but like, like, cute.
Who does he remind you of?
He's got a little bit of, a little bit of Joe Jonas in him, actually.
You could be Joe for Halloween.
Welcome, Nick.
Thank you.
How are you doing today?
I'm feeling really good today.
Are you feeling relaxed?
I feel almost too relaxed.
What do you generally do to relax?
My favorite way to relax is either to sit on my couch and put on YouTube videos of things being built.
So weird.
But there's like all these amazing videos of like great architectural feats and like bridges that they unpack how they were built.
And I just find it to be really soothing.
We'll start the relaxation with some breathing.
That's okay.
Great.
We're going to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Nick, it's very important that the clothes we wear make us feel comfortable.
Would you feel more comfortable in a dressing gown?
Why not?
You know, typically I, I don't really wear robes all that often.
My favorite thing to relax in is a Vory shorts, Vory shorts and a hoodie.
Luckily for you, we have Vory shorts and a hoodie right here.
We don't.
What?
And do you feel more relaxed?
I do feel just about 10% more relaxed.
Nick, are you a fan of mantras?
Mantras?
Yes, to a degree.
Would you have any mantras you'd like to use today?
Yes.
Thank you.
Allow the possibility that maybe, just maybe, everything will be okay.
That's beautiful.
Could you guide us in the mantra as well?
Yes.
Sort of a light squint in the eyes as you say.
It really helps for some reason.
Yeah.
Allow the possibility.
That maybe.
Just maybe.
Everything will be okay.
If you're ever spinning out about something, and, and thank you, and you
need, you know, to use that, it's yours.
I, I feel 10% more relaxed now.
Good.
Did you know that self-care burns calories?
I did not know that, but it makes sense.
Would you feel more relaxed if you had something to eat and drink?
Usually having a drink makes me feel pretty relaxed.
Oh, what is this?
Spicy margarita.
Lovely.
Thank you very much.
Cheers.
Stay relaxed, Dorinthe.
Stay thirsty and relaxed.
Would you be more comfortable with some food?
Perhaps.
It's on the menu.
Oh, ants on a log.
Thank you.
For those that don't know, ants on a log is a snack mostly for children, but my
brothers and I, over the years of touring, felt that not only was it a
delicious and nutritious snack, it helped us feel more in touch with our, our sort
of childhood and our roots.
So each venue that we go to all over the world, we have them make ants on a log
for us backstage.
And it's a nice reminder of where we came from.
Not the most relaxing sound, but.
What's your favorite sound?
Celery crunching.
No, my favorite sound is the like soft droning of a flute with lots of reverb on
it.
That is niche.
Yeah, it is.
But it's, it's pretty magical.
The best example is future.
That's what I'm talking about.
Nick, you are a singer, songwriter.
I don't need to prove it.
I don't need to tell you that.
And a lot of your heart goes into your lyrics.
Yeah.
Some of your lyrics have some quite negative aura around them.
I thought maybe a test of this would be changing some of those words into a
positive vibe.
Would you feel comfortable doing that?
I would love to.
From the song Burning Up.
I'm slipping into the deep sea of positivity.
And I'm trying to keep from being too positive.
Baby, who turned the temperature warmer, but in a not, you know, in like a warmth,
cozy hug.
Cause I'm.
Positively.
Happy.
For you, baby.
Yeah.
It's potentially better.
It's got something.
So it certainly has something.
Art allows us to express ourselves creatively.
It's great for regulating the mood.
Would you feel more relaxed if you were doing some art?
Maybe.
Yeah.
I'm not.
It depends on, well, yes, please.
Oh, Plato art.
Yeah.
I can do that.
There's painting is, is a, it's a tough one for me.
Thank you very much.
Tell me what's your spirit animal?
A wolf.
Would you mind making us a wolf out of Plato, please?
I'd love to.
Thank you very much.
Again, another wolf out of Plato.
Just did this last week.
Did you know what those colors mean to you?
These are my daughter's two favorite colors, pink and purple.
Which artists do you admire most?
Which artists do I admire most?
I'm going to give an answer.
It's going to sound like I'm trying to be like a pick me type thing, but, but I've
had the chance a few times to go to the Van Gogh museum.
You know, he was, he was obviously a very complicated man, but his work is so
incredible and soothing.
Describe yourself in three words.
Gentle, gentle, but, but self-assured, you know, that's the first one.
So gentle.
And then, um, generous.
I will give my friends and my loved ones, whatever they want of like, it's like my
door's always open.
My table's going to be there for you to sit and, and, and yeah, so generous.
Patient.
If someone describes me that way, it would be a real honor.
There's my wolf.
That's stunning, Nick.
I can see where you get your inspiration from Van Gogh.
Yes.
You know, obviously a wolf.
Obviously a wolf.
Would you feel more relaxed if you had some instruments to make a soundscape?
Yes, I would.
Thank you.
What sound makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up?
It's weird.
Actually, it's not a sound.
It kind of is, but it's not.
There's a percentage of people, and I'm one of them, that, uh, green beans and the
texture on your teeth gives you goosebumps and makes the hair on the back of your
neck stand up.
If I eat, if I eat a green bean, it's like, it's like a chalkboard thing for some
people that makes them.
This sounds too stressful for this conversation.
It is.
We're getting stressed.
Should we move on?
Yeah.
What song are you proudest of?
The song I'm most proud of in my career would probably be Love Bug.
It just, I don't know, it encapsulated a feeling that I had at that time, and I
love playing it to this day.
Now, Nick, we know you have dogs at your own home.
It must be hard being away from them so often.
It is hard to be away from them.
Would you feel more relaxed if you had a puppy with you?
Probably.
Yeah, that's a good puppy.
How old?
Hello, Antonio.
Hi.
You're like a bunny.
Antonio's 10 weeks old.
Hello.
You know, he kind of looks like, um, like a little bit of a human face.
Not in like a weird way, but like, like cute.
Who does he remind you of?
He's got a little bit of, a little bit of Joe Jonas in him, actually.
You could be Joe for Halloween.
Well, saying that, would you feel more comfortable with another puppy who
could represent your other brother?
Sure.
Look at this.
Pasha.
Hello, Pasha.
Hi.
Right there's good.
Have we got the three Jonas brothers here?
Yeah.
Kevin, Joe, and Nick.
Similarity is uncanny.
Uncanny.
You know, you were thinking it.
Leave in the comment section.
The puppies, Pasha and Antonio, actually really love nursery rhymes.
Would you be okay with reading some nursery rhymes to me?
Would love to.
Thank you.
Mary had a little lamb.
Its fleece was white as snow.
Everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.
It followed her to school one day.
That wasn't against the rule.
It made the children laugh and play.
To see a lamb at school.
I don't know if I've ever heard the rest of this rhyme.
I think they really enjoyed that, Nick.
Thank you very much.
I think they did.
It was a gripping story, wasn't it?
Nick, what's the best piece of advice you've ever had?
Best piece of advice I've ever had was, our father said, treat people with
respect and kindness on the way up.
Um, cause they'll be there for you if there's ever a way down.
What advice would you give to these puppies?
You want a tip?
Don't eat yellow snow.
Well, nice to meet you both.
I'll see you in your human forms in a couple of days.
We're going to finish there, Nick.
But to take you out into the world, feeling refreshed, we're going to come
back to the breathing and in through your nose and out through the mouth.
Sending that breathing through your entire body.
Nick, I have one final question for you.
Do you feel relaxed?
I do.
When you do this, have the puppies ever, thank you, ever peed on somebody?
We gave a guinea pig to Jenny from Blackpink and Carl, the
guinea pig, pooped all over her.
Oh, wow.
And she was very good about it.
Also hid in her hair.
And, um, yeah, they, they were much closer at the end of that whole thing.
I'm sure they were.
I can't even describe what I'm feeling.
This is way too intimate to be on camera, guys.
