BREAKING: William And Catherine’s Big Decision After Summer Holiday Stuns Royal Fans
In a decision that signals both stability and change, the Prince and Princess of Wales are
preparing for one of the most important family moves of their lives. Prince William, Princess
Catherine and their three young children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis,
will leave their current residence at Adelaide Cottage and settle into a new,
forever home in Windsor before the end of the year. An insider has revealed that this move
is no ordinary relocation, but a long-term commitment, one that will see the Wales family
rooted in Windsor even after Prince William ascends the throne. The new property, known as
Forest Lodge, sits in Windsor Great Park and offers the family a perfect blend of privacy,
space and proximity to royal duties. Danielle Stacey, Hello's royal correspondent, explained
the significance of the move. The Prince and Princess of Wales clearly love living in Windsor.
The children are settled at Lambrook School nearby, and they will remain close to Windsor Castle for
royal functions and engagements. Forest Lodge has been described as their forever home,
giving the children the chance to grow up in a family house rather than within palace walls.
In a move that demonstrates William and Catherine's sense of responsibility,
it is understood that the couple will cover all costs of the relocation themselves,
including renovations and rental fees, without drawing on taxpayer funds. Reports also indicate
that the home will have no live-in staff, ensuring a more normal family atmosphere for George,
Charlotte and Louis. Princess Catherine has already been spotted making personal choices
for the new home, reportedly selecting elegant furniture, including a striking 24-seater dining
table, to furnish the grand rooms of Forest Lodge. The eight-bedroom residence has a rich
history. In 2001, Forest Lodge underwent a £1.5 million restoration to preserve its heritage
features. The house boasts original stonework, marble fireplaces, Venetian windows, ornate
plaster ceilings and a half-barrel vaulted hallway. The Grade II listed property later
appeared on the rental market for £15,000 a month, reflecting its grandeur and exclusivity.
The move is also deeply personal. A source close to the family noted,
over the last few years at Adelaide Cottage, there have been some really difficult times.
Moving offers a fresh start, a new chapter, a chance to leave unhappy memories behind.
Forest Lodge is their long-term home, the place where they want their children to grow up.
Indeed, their shift to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, after leaving Kensington Palace in London,
was seen as a trial run for life in Windsor. It gave the family a chance to enjoy more privacy
while staying close to school and royal duties. But now, with the children growing older and
stepping into more visible royal roles, the time has come for a permanent family base.
For William and Catherine, Windsor has become the perfect middle ground.
It allows them to raise their children in a safe, semi-rural environment,
while remaining accessible for royal functions. The Waleses are known for being hands-on parents,
and this move reflects their ongoing effort to provide as normal a childhood as possible
for the next generation of royals. While Forest Lodge will soon become the family's primary
residence, the Waleses will retain their other properties. Anmer Hall in Norfolk,
a beloved retreat where the family often spends school holidays.
Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, a 20-room London base previously home to Princess Margaret,
which remains available for official duties. Adelaide Cottage, their current Windsor home,
is a charming four-bedroom pink-fronted residence built in 1831. It underwent a
full refurbishment in 2015 and is famous for its unique design touches, including golden
dolphins and rope salvaged from a 19th-century royal yacht. While beautiful and historic,
the cottage has always been seen as a temporary step, rather than a forever home. By contrast,
Forest Lodge provides more space and permanence. It represents not just an upgrade, but a statement
of intent. The Wales family are here to stay, building the foundation of their royal life in
Windsor for decades to come. This move echoes the traditions of Queen Elizabeth II, who always
cherished her time at Windsor. By choosing Windsor as their base, William and Catherine
are not only prioritising their children's upbringing, but also signalling continuity
in the heart of the monarchy. As Prince William once said about family life at Anmer Hall,
we spend as much time as we can here. It's very peaceful. Now, with Forest Lodge,
the Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing to write the next chapter of their family story,
one that blends peace, tradition, and the promise of the future.
