Once upon a time, on a small farm, nestled between green hills and golden fields, lived a chubby little pig named Pickles.
Pickles was no ordinary pig. He had a curly tail that bounced when he walked, and a nose that loved to sniff out fun.
But most of all, Pickles had a big imagination.
Every day, Farmer Fred would feed the animals, pat Pickles on the head and say,
Stay out of trouble, little pig.
But Pickles didn't want to stay out of trouble. He wanted an adventure.
I bet there's more to the world than this muddy pen and these silly chickens, he snorted one morning,
and just like Faith, wriggled under the fence and ran away.
Clip-clop, snort, snort, wiggle-waggle, off Pickles went, trotting down the dusty path,
past the cornfield, through the orchard, and into the great unknown.
The first place Pickles found was a forest where the trees swayed like they were laughing,
and the squirrels wore tiny hats made of leaves.
Where are you going, piggy? chirped a squirrel.
I'm off to find a place more exciting than a farm, Pickles replied proudly.
Well, watch out for the windy fox, warned the squirrel. He loves sneaky pigs.
But Pickles just snorted and marched on.
Next, Pickles came to a glistening puddle, so big it looked like a lake.
He jumped in with a splash, then again with a squish, and then again with a wee.
I declare this my royal kingdom, the Puddle Palace, he shouted, sliding on his belly.
But just as he was about to crown himself King Pickles, the sky rumbled.
Rumble, rumble! Rain poured down, and thunder boomed.
The puddle grew and grew, until it was no longer funit, was scary.
Pickles shivered under a bush.
I miss my warm pen, he whispered.
Suddenly, from the shadows, a pair of glowing eyes appeared.
It was the windy fox, then, sly and sneaky.
Well, well, what do we have here? the fox smirked.
A juicy little pig, lost in the woods? Pickles' legs trembled.
Time not lost, he squealed.
Just then, whoosh, something zipped through the trees.
It was the squirrel in the leaf, hate-riding on the back of an owl.
Leave that pig alone, the squirrel shouted, tossing acorns at the fox.
The fox yelped, spun around, and ran deep into the forest.
Pickles blinked.
You saved me? Of course, said the squirrel.
You're far from home, you need friends out here.
Chapter 4
Home again, with the squirrel and the owl leading the way.
Pickles trudged back through the forest, over the hills, past the orchard, and finally back to the farm.
It was night time.
The stars twinkled above.
Farmer Fred was standing at the gate, holding a flashlight.
Pickles, he called.
Oink, Pickles ran straight into his arms.
Oh, you silly pig, said the farmer, hugging him tight.
You had us all worried.
The chickens clucked, the cows mooed, the sheep bleated.
Everyone was happy, Pickles was home.
That night, back in his cozy pen, Pickles curled up in the straw.
His legs were tired.
His nose was muddy, but his heart was full.
Maybe I'll have more adventures, he murmured sleepily.
But tomorrow, I'm staying right here.
The End
