Chasing Javelina in the Arizona Desert
Well January 2025 we are out here javelin hunting. Unfortunately we didn't get deer tags.
Things got a little sideways today on our javelin hunt. This is the first full day that we are in
Arizona hunting. A couple buddies of ours put us on a group of hogs this morning. Unfortunately the
big one that we were going after he kind of came out of the blue and he pinned us down at about 42
yards and he knew something was up. He took off. We were able to sneak up on the rest of the herd,
got up on some rocks, got to about 33 yards from this guy, made a shot. It wasn't my best shot
but it was about mid-body. He took off. I saw that he had some guts hanging out so
knew he probably wasn't gonna last very long. Ryan gave me the camera. He went after the rest
of the pigs and hopefully he was trying to get on the herd again. That's why unfortunately we
weren't able to get the recovery on camera. However he did only go about 25-30 yards
laid down because he was hurt pretty bad. I put another arrow in him.
So all in all it was a successful trip so far. Like I said I was fortunate enough to tag out
today. Still have a few more days left on the hunt so hopefully Ryan's gonna be able to tag
out on that and I'll be the cameraman on that hunt. We're gonna get him hung up, get him skinned,
let him hang. It's cold enough so that's a positive and then get him on ice in the cooler
so we can take him home and process the meat. All right let's see him. Hold him up.
A little bit bigger if you guys remember than last year's pig. Last year's football that you got?
Football yeah. You're going in the right direction. Here's the first shot right there.
Like I said middle of the body then second shot. He's one or two years away from being a
full-grown adult. So I'm gonna skin the legs here because it's a little bit easier
and then we're gonna hang him up on the tree so I can skin him all the way.
Rocky terrain out here though so it definitely did a lot of a lot of hiking to try to get that
one today and it came through. We had fun though. Yeah we're out hunting. That's what we love to do.
What's not to love? All right well we got the legs skinned out. It's like an 80 pound
avalino. Let's make it look easy. We need to find a tree.
Hang him up. Looks good.
Dude 80 pounds with one hand like that? I've been working out. I need to put this on like a fast
forward. Come here. This is the st. gland. Oh you got it? Almost. Almost got it. Almost whacked it.
Almost schmacked it huh? That's where the smell comes from ladies and gentlemen.
A little fatty sack. Point that out again. Right here. That's where all the stink comes from on
a javelina. A little st. gland. A little stink right there. You got to cut meat side. Meat side
of it. Keep it on the skin. Take it off with the hide. You don't want to cut that thing.
What happens if you cut that thing Travis? Well these pigs they uh they're commonly referred to
as a stink pig. Unless you uh don't want your meat to smell like how they smell when they're
just cruising. And you need to make sure that that doesn't come in contact with your finished
meat. Maybe my first shot wasn't as far back as I thought. Because there was quite a bit of blood
and he only went 20 yards before he didn't want to move anymore. Maybe uh solid liver or maybe
clipped the back of the lungs depending on the angle. I don't know. He's dead right? Yeah got
the job done. Got him. Not exactly how I wanted to but. Wash this thing out with some water.
Try to get as much hair off the meat as I can. Let it hang. We're gonna go out tonight. Hopefully
Ryan's gonna fill his tag. And if you guys have enjoyed this be sure to give us a like.
Comment down below and subscribe. Hopefully we'll see you on the next one when there's
another pig on the tree. So unfortunately I was unable to fill my tag. Super stoked that Travis
got his javelina. It was still a really awesome time. Travis had his son out here with him.
I had my dad out here. That was actually his first time on a hunt with me. I didn't grow up hunting
with my dad you know like Travis did. We did a bunch of other things so it was cool to get him
you know finally out here camping and hunting with me. He took all the photographs that you
see throughout the video so he had a good time hiking around with us. If you guys found yourself
out in the Arizona desert let us know in the comments and thanks for hanging out. We will
see you in the next video.
