Apocalyptic Desert Ghost Town

i'm the rockhopper i was gonna give you an extensive tour of the kaiser eagle mountain mine ghost town but something happened that i had to cut it real short stay tuned and find out what that was [Music] the only sign of life is the newer school i can hear occasional screams from children playing but there's only a few children in a remote corner of the california desert is a post-apocalyptic looking ghost town of the kaiser eagle mountain mine mine was founded in 1948 by the kaiser steel corporation this iron ore mining area once had wide landscaped streets with over 4 000 people residing there there were more than 400 homes and trailer spaces and dormitories housing the workers it once had a pool tennis courts bowling alley shopping centers recreational areas an auditorium baseball diamond and there were two gas stations eight churches three schools and a post office so what is this place let's go through the hole in the wall and have a look was this some kind of hospital i wonder let's have a look in the men's room you come through the back here and this is interesting it opens up to some steps and i like there was a uh pool of some kind here see what little water spout was there so i'm wondering if this place was like a hospital or something and then it opens up to that i'm really not sure what was going on here and then you've got a chalkboard in this room that's right next to that what i guess was a pool like a therapeutic pool maybe i climbed over a couple fences and started exploring the area entering a few buildings it wasn't long before i saw a white pickup truck prowling the premises and i surmised someone was trying to find me then i saw another truck shortly after here was a mining town with all the amenities of a full-fledged city and what appeared to be more than 100 houses still intact within the buildings i was hard to spot but once i went outside and started taking still photos from the street of the houses i was now out in the open that's when one of the trucks surrounded a corner and spotted me the driver said i was on private property and told me to get in the bed of the truck and he would drive me back to my car the mine was shut down in 1982 and after that for a brief time it served as a correctional facility it also served as a backdrop for movies and tv shows it turned out to be two guys in pickup trucks eventually that were looking for me and one of them did find me and he was not real happy with me he said that they had called the sheriff and a tow truck was coming that i'd better get out of there quickly so i did so i don't know if they really did call the sheriff and the tow truck but i wasn't about to stick around and find out it was best to hightail it right out of there so that's what i did so i'm sorry i had to cut the video short sometimes things happen but i do my best to get videos for you guys i hope you enjoyed it nevertheless you keep on subscribing and i'll keep going to places that maybe i'm not even really supposed to go to and risking it to get good videos for you until next time this is a rockhopper i'll see you again
