Currant Nevada - A Town Left to the Ghosts

rockhopper here and today i think i found a town gone ghost out here in the nevada desert it looks like this was a somewhat prosperous place at one time situated at the crossroads of two highways but today the number of abandoned and decaying buildings far outnumbers the few that are still in use it's a town that has for the most part died stop yeah i think life did stop here nothing but a few farmers and their tractors out here now i'm out here in the town of current nevada and there's not much left of it now as i looked around the area it was as if people just decided to up and leave one day located at the junction of u.s highway 6 and state route 379 the area was first homesteaded in 1868 10 families moved here and created a farming community which became a supply point for railroad valley ranches in the 1870s it was a stage stop and by 1883 a few stores a saloon and a variety of other businesses were here 50 people called this place home and that remained relatively unchanged for the rest of the century when gold was discovered in 1914 on one of the ranches a brief period of mining commenced but it amounted to little the town once offered services for the traveler such as gas food and lodging but the traffic was too sparse and all businesses had closed down by the mid-1990s a combination of cold winters and hot dry windy summers have weeded out the half-hearted residents have left a tough and resilient breed to remain current hangs on today only by a very thin thread if not for a handful of ranches and farmers in the outlying area there would likely be no one here at all let's have a look around looks like these were either apartments or an old motel get your old tv set there kind of a one-room deal here with your bathroom back there wow only a dollar for a wash that was a pretty good deal out of order yeah i think that probably applies to this entire place it was a fairly sizable little motel let's have a look inside this old restaurant home cooking come on in i think this place is definitely cooked plants are taking over on the inside of this building only the ghosts are here having their coffee and their cigarettes now it is nevada so they probably had gambling and slot machines blackjack anyone a couple of big wagon wheels here for decor what's left of a wood-burning stove amidst all the sea of coffee cup lids this map is from 1993 nba jam video game probably some from the 1980s maybe looks like they had a jukebox here at one time playing 45 records here's what's left of an old 45 record another 45 record kenny rogers so in love with you does anybody remember that song well looks like the jukebox is right there do not use yeah no kidding looks like this was once the bar that's a pretty ornate bar nice craftsmanship on that woodwork newspaper from 1996 right here from las vegas that's quite a fireplace right there let's have a closer look looks like a whole lot of quartz crystals looks like people have chipped away some of them looks like that was like a little pond or something right there employees only well let's have a look and see what's in here a bunch of junk i guess yeah whole lot of junk that was left behind this was the kitchen no doubt soft-serve ice cream machine and over here looks like there was a dryer anybody feeling brave enough to sample those condiments or maybe you'd like to try some of these some quick roads down there for you old vinyl records and the untamed heart hey chad your mail is waiting for you 1996. i don't know what this is but somebody painted as above so below looks like it was an old mechanics shop yep and there's your rates can't really decipher what it says now and i gotta say their work is a1 rated look at the fine job they did with this old chevy blazer if that doesn't say spiffy first-rate job i don't know what does let's have a quick look inside this old camper top oh hey anybody want a vanilla wafer they look yummy huh not much in this thing anyone want to shoot some hoops looks like that hoop is shot looks like this might be the only resident in this town this building looks very old let's have a peek inside well looks like there's a more video games in here that one's from 1983. and what else do we have in here and that video game there and uh we got some a roof that's falling down uh just some junk back in back there i guess a couple more video games dragons lair two and i don't know what's this one back here what's this say this one must be no this is dragon's lair one there you go congo bongo ready for some fries you might call this mobile home spacious and airy comes with a view we'll even throw in a jar of jalapeno peppers at no extra charge every woman will delight in having this fine bathroom let's have a look in here and a nice fireplace back there got a nice easy chair in front of the fireplace you know you might call this rustic accommodations this bathroom is the envy of no one yeah i think we'll put this place on the back burner feel free to use the back room as a storage aside from the mobile home this community center and firehouse are about all that's left this is the only buzz this place has going for it anymore looks like the community center might be open let's have a quick peek inside i got some books to read over there you got a bar right here and your little area for whatever you want playing
