ウィー。
たたみ、快適ですね。
快適ですね。
It's comfortable or pleasant.
ね is a particle attached at the end of the sentence,
and it means right or isn't it in English.
あ、ごめんなさい。
ごめんなさい。
I'm sorry.
If you write in kanji,
ごめん means permission,
so ごめんなさい includes the meaning of please forgive me.
In English, it's close to a phrase pardon me,
asking for forgiveness.
ごめんなさい.
The phrase is mainly used among family members and friends.
え、これ、紙ですか?
はい、そうです。
これは障子です。
えー、すみません。
すみません。
I'm sorry.
すみません is more politer than ごめんなさい.
And it can be used to people outside family and friends.
For example, if you accidentally bump into someone,
you can say すみません。
Additionally, すみません is not only used as I'm sorry,
but also means excuse me and thank you.
For example,
あのー、すみません。
はい。
これ、本の気持ちです。
えー、すみません。
あ、大丈夫です。
申し訳ありません。
I'm sorry.
The direct translation of the phrase is it's inexcusable.
It's more politer than すみません.
And it can be also used in a business setting.
これから気をつけます。
I'll be more careful from now on.
We already learned これから in the previous lesson
and which means from now on.
大丈夫ですよ。
緑さん、麦茶どうぞ。
あ、はい。
ありがとうございます。
麦茶、いただきます。
いただきます。
Thank you for the meal or drink.
It's usually said before eating or drinking.
The direct translation of the phrase means I humbly receive.
Actually, いただきます is not only used before eating
but also when you're accepting or receiving something from someone.
For example,
コーヒーはいかがですか?
Would you like to have a cup of coffee?
はい、いただきます。
Yes, I'll have one.
どうぞ。
緑さんは留学生。
そうですか。
うちはどこですか?
ここ。
え?
このうちが好きです。
I like this house.
うち means house or home
and このうち means this house.
Excuse me, but we learned previously
this in Japanese is これ.
That's right.
これ means this thing here.
For example, これは漫画です。
This thing here is a comic book.
But if you want to say this comic book is fun,
then we say この漫画は面白いです。
この means this something
and it's attached to nouns.
For example, このペンは私のです。
This pen is mine.
このバッグは安いです。
This bag is inexpensive.
たまおくんは友達です。
やったー!
Yay!
Cultural point.
正座
When sitting on the 座布団,
a floor cushion on the tatami room in Japan,
sitting in 正座,
which is a traditional way of sitting in Japan,
is considered formal.
For example, in the Japanese tea ceremony,
people sit in 正座.
However, nowadays,
more Japanese people find 正座 uncomfortable
as more people sit on chairs at home
and have less chance to sit on the floor
with the 正座 position.
In most of the casual and daily situations,
men can sit cross-legged
and women can sit with both legs one side
on the 座布団 instead.
Great job!
Thank you for watching until the end.
See you again in the next lesson.
