You know, one of the reasons why I think it's hard to be kind in the workplace,
and I hate to sound like the old guy in the room,
but I honestly think a lot of it is technology.
We're not as present as we used to be. And I think when I was younger,
we were forced to have difficult conversations consistently and we honed our
skills. We realized, Oh, that didn't work.
So let me be kinder because the person didn't respond well. Nowadays,
if you don't want to be around someone,
like I think people help people break up with each other.
Now it's like these ghost people. So if you think about this,
if folks were more willing to have difficult conversations, be more present,
not allow technology to creep into every aspect of human interaction and just
focus on the person in front of them, realizing how simple cues of, wow,
that probably hurt the person's feelings. Or you know what?
I probably could have worded that differently.
Then you start flexing that muscle of kindness and empathy and being able to be
a little bit kinder in the workplace.
It starts with the willingness to do that, of course.
And I think right now maybe we don't find that to be this important because we
have a lot of work to do.
But I would argue that how we treat each other is one of the most important
things that we have to offer, especially about getting work done and moving the
world forward.
